any playa that is big like our gun rob is will smash all fowards. Any playa that is big can play on any spot on the ground cos they are big and strongeer then any1 else on the ground. so yes i rekon that big robby culd play on geherig and lloyydy

Yep, pretty sure I replied to this thread about 12 months ago???;)

Robbie = our current number 1 ruckman.

Too slow, too immobile, for a key defender.

When he spent a bit of time in defence he was matched up on opposition dinosaurs/forwards-cum-ruckmen resting in the forward line.

Basically he's going to be a ruckman or nothing (IMO).

And for similar reasons, I would say the same about Taylor, Bailey, Renouf & McEntee - not a key defender amongst them.

But I hope they all develop into really good rucks....:)

Cranny Pete?

Kyle Craig was a nasty fictional character conjured up by one James Patterson

There is no chance he will ever play as permanent KP.

I don't think he has fully recovered from his knee injury and so seems to have real issues with fitness. And as others have noted too slow and too immobile.

Port adelaide had 4 minor premierships and what is less known they had major injury problems at times in that era - their depth was prett impressive.

The point is they would often play with 3 or 4 ruckmen and Port is where AC gets a lot of his inspiration,

Big Bob might have a big role to play for a good while yet

I think it should be given a go.

Bailey and Taylor in the ruck and Robbie at FB.

He had a stint at Fullback a couple of years ago I think in 2006 and it worked quite well. He has certainly improved since then. He has a good tank and the perfect body size.

Thoughts?

One of the strangest things ever suggested on bigfooty.

Big Bob has the turning circle of Queen Mary.

He would get lit up like a Christmas Tree if played anywhere near the oppositions goals.

It's a bit hard for me to imagine Robbie as a key defender. Same with the rest of the ruckmen. I'm pretty sure we rate run and use of the ball coming out of defence too highly to be playing these blokes down there permanently.

Re: Robbie Campbell - FB?

On a side note, every time I see this thread come up I cant help but think of the Ben Dixon experiment at full back. He probably still has nightmares of the Brisbane game

I still have nightmares of all but one Brisbane game I have attended.
Hopefully John Wardrop as its full-time Opposition Analyst will prevent some of our coaching mistakes in Brisbane.

I just hope I see RC in all games this year.
I don't think I will see him as a fullback often.

Re: Robbie Campbell - FB?

Campbell's performances in defence are overated. He still conceded three or four goals against Hall in the game most people quote as evidence.

True, Hall did kick four goals on him, but I was watching that battle very closely and Hall got gifted a couple of goals. One through a free kick that wasn't there...and there was another one that Hall was fortuitous in getting.

The carrara game in 06 was absolute torture....:(

i remember bringing French and Swedish exchange students to the game and they asked if it was normal for a side to go scoreless for that long...

No cigar.

Terrible idea. A stop gap measure from yesterday.

Yeah you just wonder what percentage of influence these type of coaches have?? Last year at the MCG the Lions gave the Maggies a nice old touch up to the tune of 93 points!! we on the other hand 2 or 3 weeks later managed to account for the lions comfortably!! Point being of course that Wardrop was working with the Magpies last year.

Question: In the history of the game, no player of 199cm+ has ever been a successful defender. Given that, why would Robbie Campbell be the first?

The Carlton fans will be dissapointed they have such high hopes for ohalpin!! But seriously Renouf will be an interesting one to watch! hes been touted as a more than capable KPP at centre half back! apparently played there most of the year for southport the year he was drafted, think theY won the premeirship with him at CHB. great endurance, mobility and speed for a 200cm bloke! get exposed at fullback, but maybe go alright bit further up the ground!

Dustin Fletcher is 199cm. But yes I agree I don't think Robbie will be able to hold down the full back position for us

D'Oh !

The stat I looked at said 198.

If they're mobile enough I think big men can play on rucks resting in pockets, but otherwise, it just doesn't work.
