Robert Warnock

Freo supporters had huge raps on this guy last year. What has gone wrong?

Nothing's gone wrong per se, it's just Warnock is still a developing player. He's still very lightly framed and he wouldn't have played all those games last year if Sandi hadn't been out injured. Then he had an injury interrupted preseason this year.

He'll probably be in and out of the team during the year as Harves looks to develop him without overexposing him before his body is ready for the hammering he will take at the hands of AFL ruckmen.

He was always going to be a project player when we picked him up as a beanpole in the 3rd round of the draft a couple of years back. He'll be a top quality ruckmen, no doubt about that.

And as for the 'word' being that he wants to leave, the only word from Warnock is he's putting off negotiations til the end of the year. But the journos over here have put 2 and 2 together, gotten 5, and happily announced that he wants to leave Freo. Just like they did with Pav.

I actually have a feeling Warnock will ask to be traded (I hope I'm wrong:().

But if he does decide to leave hopefully he just wants to play in Melbourne and not for Melbourne, so atleast there will be some bidding for him and we can get a fair price as opposed to Melbourne bending us over with the PSD

daniel gilmore is an inferior ruckmen but he can play back and wing. warnock at this stage either plays ruck or he is on the bench

Yeah, these days with the increased use of the interchange bench you can't really afford to reserve a spot for a resting ruckman any more. It sounds like he will have to add more strings to his bow because I can't see him pushing Sandy out.

Yep, this happens all the time. Journos seem to stretch the truth that extra bit further when speculating about players switching clubs. You'd be a fool to believe it unless you heard Warnock or his manager say so themselves.

But you love trading with Collingwood. It's always a fair deal and both parties walk away winners....don't they?

The Pav for Steve McKee trade was OK.

On the Warnock thang ...bit early to be ummming and aahhhing.

If he was to go today - you would think a 2nd rounder if there were more than 1 club seriously interested.

I hope he stays - he has a good footy brain and I think he may develop into a player capable of being a first string ruck

The thing that will assist Warnock will be the grabs Sandilands has started taking...his marking has been ordinary, but this is changing.

So if Sandi can go forward and take some grabs, and we saw some of this on Friday night, and rest in the pocket while Warnock rucks it gives us much more flexibility...Warnock is a very good mark and kick, just a little light framed...still.

I said late 1st rounder to early 2nd and got laughed at on the Essedon + Melbourne board today.

This will be pay back for the Farmer deal. At the time Freo had the first pick in the psd and basically said 'take this or you'll get nothing' so we had to let Farmer go cheaply. Why should we not do the same thing?

It is most likely he will nominate Melbourne as his preferred club as his brother Matthew is currently on the list.

You will have to be very careful with picking up Warnock.

He has been ' fremantled' and it may take you a year or 2 to rid him from this disease.

But the morons who run the recruitment / trading department down there have already finalised this deal.

Damian Plebrill for Warnock and their 1st rounder.

Well done essendon :thumbsu:

We'll take him with our first pick in the PSD thanks :)

Nah, we'll just look like we will, until Freo accepts pick 33 and Chris Johnson (he is a WA boy after all) for Robbie Warnock.
Pick 1 preseason is Ben Cousins...

Hell, if they wont even give Warnock a game, why should they expect much more than a late second round pick?
Talk of Pick 2 is surely a joke, or a scam to keep Freo fans excitied. And look the other way while their over-talented half-arse excuse for a 'team' continues to fail. Freo are Travis Johnstone on a grand scale.

Our ruck stocks aren't a full as they seem - White must surely be approaching reitrement, Jamar just hasn't seemed to push to a first-rate level, Paul Johnson has, this season, but is also a versatile extra tall who wouldn't spend a huge amount of time in the ruck, and Meesen is still yet to get a showing, and may well find himself more as a forward than a ruck.

So Melbourne picks Up Warnock and Naitanui...

Our ruck division become's PJ (versatile big man), Warnock (super-tall specialist tap-ruckman) and Naitanui (first rate ruckman/midfielder).

That, my friends, looks like solid gold to me.

A side note, our Matty Warnock played a decent game under terrible circumstances up in Brisbane. Maybe a potential reunion is just what he needed to hear about to get his form in. :)

warnock=worst young ruckman in leauge. think about all the promising ruckman. warnock was rookied wasn't he? I would rather take will sullivan from wce rookie list, he is still only 18 and has been in the best for Perth on 2 occasions already from western jets. 202cm

Your thinking of his brother who is rookie listed at the Demons

Surely Warnock will get more games and game time now, if only so as to increase his value, presuming he does OK. It'd also discourage him from leaving, surely, if he's thereabouts at Freo.

21 for a ruckman is still very young, so good things may await the keenest and most patient suitor...

Melbourne 2009:

1st Pick in National Draft - Nicholas Naitanui (Ruckman)

Trade for Pick 17 (Priority) - Robert Warnock (Ruckman)

1st Pick in Pre-season Draft - Ben Cousins

Welcome Finals!!! ;)

I am pretty sure you can't trade priority picks (will stand corrected)

R.Warnock is slightly less shit than his brother, so that makes him a an average footballer at best. Surely there will be a better out of contract footballer going round than him at seasons end.

Pies gave up pick 14 for Wood which i would say Warnock and Wood are at about the same level if anything Wood just infront and there both about the same age
