I wasn't listening to whatever he was saying today.

But he is generally incapable of keeping his political thoughts to himself when talking about football.

I just think that sometimes, in fact often, people get confused between social issues and politics.

Thinking that being nice to people is political, is weird.

This idiot still bobs up.
Was on 3aw today prattling on about class politics and then claiming he's all about "bringing people together".
Communists suck.

Hi guys,

Someone just sent me a Twitter DM with this thread (which appears to have been bumped from about 20 years ago!) OK, I'll take the bait. I'm more than used to people having a crack. What IS annoying though, is when it’s based on something which didn’t happen. And what you're suggesting raymond35 absolutely didn't.

The discussion today was about Brendon Gale missing out on the AFL CEO gig. I expressed my disappointment that he appears to have missed out (a) because of a personal clash with a couple of people at the top and (b) because he might not have gone to the right schools. It was GALE who I said was great at "bringing people together". Not me.

I then said I admitted I was a bit of a “class warrior” and wished on this topic that my fears were wrong, but that it appeared the “not preferred background” thing had really had counted against him, hardly a unique view of the situation by the way. There's a lot of support for Gale out there, as there should be. He's a terrific administrator and a terrific guy.

At no time was politics, left, right, centrist or you-name-it mentioned. So if you’re going to have a crack, please at least get your facts right. As for you XhazzafootyX, just curious, have you actually met me? Would be interested to hear your reasoning. But clearly if I’m the “biggest maggot on earth”, I must have really done something terrible to you? Or did I just say something you didn’t like?

Cheers,
Rohan

PS. I'm not and never have been a communist by the way (though my parents were members of the CPA in the 1950s for a few years). I'm a social progressive, and pretty middle of the road economically. If you doubt that, find a single thing I've said about politics which could be considered extremist. Tip: you won't.

Love you RoCo

Pretty sure Andrew Demetriou didn't go to the "right" school. Gilligan went to St Peters and Jackson went to PAC but they are both in Adelaide so difficult to see the Melbourne Elitists rating that too highly. Strange comment WoCo.

No it's not, mate. That also is not the point of my post. But seeing you want to go there, I'm well aware of Demetriou's origins, but (a) he was appointed to the job 20 years ago, and in fact it was he who began the trend towards hiring young guys from elite school backgrounds, something which was talked about and written about a lot when McLachlan succeeded him, and subsequently, also.

You've got quite the chip on your shoulder when it comes to perceived notions of ''class''.

You didn't get it from Lloyd Street, so I can only assume it comes from being the Son of card carrying communists.

Gee, you seem nice. You know my parents? I'll fill you in. My late father Keith, was a universally liked and highly regarded film critic, my 86-year-old mother Jo, who raised four kids, is still alive and living locally. We're all incredibly proud of them. I'll pass on your regards.

PS. Think I'll leave it there, everyone. I like reading Big Footy and think there's some great, thought-provoking stuff posted here. There's also the occasional pretty low cheap shot which disuades me, and I suspect others who browse these forums, from interacting more often. I reckon this one from you Trav 20, attacking my parents FFS, very much falls into the latter category.

Cheers

Why do you care what flogs say about you on these sites? Just ignore the meaningless dribble?

Rohan likes The Mark of Cain, which makes it physically and metaphorically impossible for him to be a dickhead
And Helmet to - love both these bands and know Rohan does to (including RATM) - saw his tweet from down in Melbourne about the Helmet gig- I went to the Brisbane Helmet gig and they rocked.

Having read thru this thread, some of the comments are disgraceful, particularly about someone that it is obvious these keyboard warriors haven't met.

Was listening to Ill at Ease today; one of the best bands Australia has produced and everyone should do themselves a favour and listen to their song, Point Man.

Keep rocking Rohan 🤘

Always pretty astounded by the level of vitriol directed at Roco on social media.
Pretty sad state of affairs where we’re at societally when it comes to division and communicating differences of opinion.
Yeah I'm guilty of that on Twitter, RoCo replied with self-deprecation, and I admired that. Hate Twitter, literally good for nothing. You could say the same for FB but no, like today on Marketplace saw an Alfa Duetto project for nix (17K) can't get it out of my head 😕

Gilligan’s parents literally had the Big Ears who is about to be coronated this weekend personally stay at their farms couple of times. I think that would be rated quite highly in those circles.

I went to their show here in Adelaide on Sunday night, they were incredible. Here's some photos I took

You reap you sow, as someone famous probably said.
Roco is as abusive as they come on Twitter. He frequently plays the man not the ball and seems to think that FRO (f... right off) is an appropriate response to anyone who challenges his world view.
I happen to agree with much of what he says, but his pompous self righteousness made me switch off his podcast long ago.
