Roughy's Sling Tackle

I was at the game last night. When it happened, I swore and lamented he'll be getting at least a week for that. I never saw the replay, but on first view live, it looked like something the mrp will target.

Haven't seen the replay of the incident, anyone know if I can find it anywhere?

Can't see it on the AFL site, it was just before 3 quarter time, it was not 'in play' which is the only thing that will be looked at, if the head did not hit the ground then nothing to answer to and he was not reported. The less attention the better. He will be fine.

Stanton had the ball but disposed of it just as Rough started the tackle. He held on too long and threw Stanton to the ground. Stanton's head does not make contact with the ground. Correct decision made by the umpire on the night, FREE KICK. Nothing more SHOULD come of this.

Apologies to Luke Darcy, commentator was Tom "Chip" Harley.

That makes more sense. Darcy couldn't possibly have an opinion if Eddie Maguire isn't around to give him one (check out their morning breccky show if you don't know what I mean).

Things in Roughy's favour:
- Head didn't hit the ground
- All in one motion
- Player wasn't injured (afaik)
- Wasn't reported at the time of incident
- Good record

Things not in Roughy's favour:
- Was a late tackle
- Plays for Hawthorn

Port player actually had the ball when Bud first tackled him. Don't think Stanton had the ball at any stage did he?

Unnecessary and will get a sanction. Hopefully a good record and early plea brings him below the 100 points.

Of course the Bomber's medical report will help...........

Yes he had the ball but got rid of it before Roughie finished the tackle. Regardless, his head didn't hit the ground so there should be no case to answer. However, with Buddy likely back the MRP might decide to level the playing field.

I think he's in trouble. It was a sling tackle.
The sling tackle rule is simply another area of inconsistency. The most common element of note is the affect on the player. An injury usually means suspension and no injury is usually let go. Stanton was not injured so if that trend continues then you would expect no suspension.

What is the contingency if both Buddy and Rough are out and hale is fit ?

Shoe can go forward and Gilham or a ruck can mind the big Hawk. which one ? Ruck or Gilham

Note - Hawkins had a good one today which was fairly wet - so weather not such a factor

In that scenario I think Hale would come back in to take Roughy's position as forward/2nd-ruck and Hodge would play CHF.

Tom Harley said nothing when Chapman punched his opponent in the Stomach clenched fist today (cant remember 1st or 2nd quarter Melbourne end left forward pocket)and he was also silent when Bartell hit his opponent in the jaw with an elbow at the 11.50 minute mark of the last quarter.
Strangely both incidents just got silence and weren't repeated with 4 different camera angles and speculations of 2 weeks.
Im sure that would have happened if it was Lewis or Buddy

lifes tough enough without having to put up with that

Guys...if he were to be charged it would be Rough Conduct....then it is whether a Level 1 or Level 2 offence....he will get 25% discount for existing good record and 25% discount for early plea....so to miss a game it would need to be a Level 2 or 3 offence which is 5/6 activation pts.

Reckless...2pts....impact low or medium (1 or 2pts)....contact to body or high (1 or 2pts). Looking at that you would say at worst Reckless/Low/Body.....4 pts.....no matches missed. Can only miss if impact is higher than low or contact was considered high.

Hard to see it be classified medium/high....if it were...with discounts it would mean 1 week off. Be pretty harsh given Stanton got straight up and suffered no injury.
