Genuinely interested, where would people have the GH5 if they were theoretically around for selection?

I think at least one of Docherty and Yeo would be in the starting team, perhaps both. Polec maybe on the interchange. Longer and Karnezis no where near it.

We've done so well being able to minimise the loss of 5 first and second rounders leaving at the one time.

I'd have Yeo in the team and Polec probably in and out of the team.

Im interested to see if they continue with the Martin as the ruck rover experiment. Also believe Robertson will be there ahead of Lester, need some inside ball winning, we have a lot of runners.

B: Adcock McGuire Clarke
H: Gardiner Merrett Rich
C: Aish D.Beams Hanley
H: Zorko Luey Christensen
F: Squizzy Close Green
R: Martin Redden Rocky
I: Mayes McStay Bewick Harwood/C.beams if stays fully fit

Staker, hasnt played for nearly 18months so fear he is done.
Freeman, good prospect but needs at least another year to develop.
Robertson & cutler more develpoment needed but handy back up's.

Looking forward to start watching Brisbane play next year. As being in Brisbane the Lions are on TV every week. Over the past couple of years (excluding end of last year) the games involving the Lions have been more than underwhelming. But now the team is looking pretty powerful.

The midfield has to be up their with the best 6 or so in the competition.. if not now then it will be next year. The defence is also looking pretty strong with a solid balance of rebound, experience and youth. The forward line will be the only struggle. Staker at FF will be important in taking one of the opposition KPD to enable McStay and Close to develop.

Overall I reckon you'll finish 11th at lowest and potentially getting somewhere around 8th. The key aspect is though the team won't peak until another 3-6 years.

Good times for Lions supporters ahead.

Staker. I'd almost forgotten that he did anything other than Footy Fix its been so long. Dom Fay mentioned in the latest fancast that he thought he would need to play a big role in 2015 (for Brisbane to have a big year). What do people think?

Posted this in beams trade thread what do people think?

Not as the offensive half back I mean as the golby/harwood defensive small replacement...

If I was clays beams I'd be trying to become a small defender. He has the pace, aggression, tackling and good attacking kick going the other way.

Of all our second tier mids he is the one I can most imagine scrambling like a mad man to smother a ball in defensive 50 or scragging Eddie betts and co for 120 minutes a game.

I like Harwood, his best is worthy of a regular spot.

But I am definitely in the Claye Beams in off half back camp.

Last season I felt he showed more composure than most in the back half, often marshalling the troops.

He is a smart footballer, and given a good run of health, Claye should p;ay a bit part in any future success!

Interestingly, unlike any other preseason versions of our best 22 for the following season, I have not been able to find anyone who has listed "pick 67" on the bench yet;)

I agree. We can't rely on Close and Freeman kicking many goals, Leuenberger and Martin would do well to kick a goal a game between them and I'm not sure that the club even sees McStay as a forward. We need to get goals out of Staker and/or McGuane if we're going to do anything other than move up a couple of spots next year.

Agreed. Staker becomes close to our most important player next year if he can stay on the park. He seems to be the only candidate to fill the big-bodied forward role, with Merrett likely needed in defence and Close and Freeman too young and raw.

Reserves

- Ryan Lester - Tom Cutler - Luke McGuane - Trent West

- Cian Hanley (R) (draftee) - Josh Clayton (draftee) - Harris Andrews (draftee)

Not a massive amount of depth in the reserves when you look at it this way. It wouldn't be the worst idea to get some mature aged players in for coverage.

Excuse the poor formatting o_O

With redden, rich, beams and Christensen into the team compared to the one game Martin and leueie played beside each other you wonder if it makes sense to continue with it as an experiment.

B: J.Adcock, M.Maguire, R.Harwood
HB: S.Martin, J.Clarke, D.Gardiner
C: P.Hanley, D.Beams, D.Rich
HF: D.Zorko, M.Close, S.Mayes
F: J.Green, D.Merrett, D.McStay
Foll: M.Leuenberger, T.Rockliff, J.Redden
I/C: A.Christensen, J.Aish, L.Taylor M.Paparone

Fringe: C.Beams, R.Bewick

We do have alot of mids so developing a Nick Smith type for the back half should be a key focus. Harwood is okay but his disposal by foot is a bit lazy.

Close and Freeman are being named in most sides here. Personally I see Staker and Sauce as clearly better players but it will be interesting if they go for development and play the younger pair.
Are people picking Close and Freeman because they think they are better players, or just to get valuable games into them?

Close will overtake merrett as the better forward very soon I reckon

IMO we should be getting games into close and freeman up forward. Not a massive fan of merret forward and if stakes gets right for next year id go staker at ff and one of close/freeman as a second tall.

Just had a quick look over the wobbles board and their round 1 team looks pretty ordinary. If we get them round 1 we should pump them.

Anyone who puts Merrett anywhere near the forward line in their teams has clearly been spending too much time with Billy Puller

I could overtake Merrett as a better forward, if I got off the couch a bit more often.

Long time stalker, first time poster. Thought I'd start by giving this a crack:

FB: R. Harwood - J. Clarke - M. Maguire
HB: J. Adcock - D. Gardiner - D. McStay - D. Rich +1
MF: D. Zorko - D. Beams - P. Hanley
HF: L. Taylor - J. Freeman - A. Christensen
FF: J. Green - D. Merrett - NA (+1 in defence)
RU: M. Leuenberger - T. Rockliff - J. Redden
IC: S. Martin - J. Aish - S. Mayes SUB: N. Robertson

EMERG: C. Beams - M. Paparone - M. Golby

Eventually, Close will come in for Merrett and I think J. Bourke showed a bit in his debut, he could end up taking Maguire's spot.
Depending on Staker's fitness, I could also see Merrett going back, Maguire sliding out of the side and Staker playing CHF, Freeman at FF(I think he's gone past Close).
McStay will swing forward to provide a third tall marking target at times.
S. Martin will play the majority as a ruck rover, pinch hitting in the ruck.

Unlucky: Z. O'Brien - R. Bewick - T. Cutler (will get games to cover injuries).
