Liked: Unpredictable results. Who would have tipped Adelaide and Sydney? Great to see.

Learned: The new rules seem to be improving the game play in general but the medical sub rule should be tweaked to come with an enforced 1 game exclusion to prevent exploitation.

Hated: the melting & hate boners towards a certain female umpire veiled behind a "controversial" decision that made no impact on the result.

Hated: the melting & hate boners towards a certain female umpire veiled behind a "controversial" decision that made no impact on the result.

It's two fold - most of us would be hard pressed to name the individual field umpires but it's easy to pick out the sole female, and armchair viewers with the benefit of multiple replays in slow-mo from different angles like to heap shit on umpires trying to interpret rules that are often subjective and may change depending on what the flavour of the month is.

I watched the GWS vs St Kilda game and thought she was fine apart from a couple of errors - and she's not the first and won't be the last umpire to make errors in a match. Overall, I think the umpires do a decent job especially given it's a sport with 36 players on the field chasing a ball that comes and goes at a rapid pace at all angles, and some of the rules like 'push in the back' and 'prior opportunity' have a subjective element to them.

Liked - Watching Adelaide take it too arguably the favourites this year, Liked watching Geelong try pull out their dirty flopping tactics and still couldn't fall across the line.

Learned - This week is going to be painful as ****, Please be gentle Mr Fantasia.

Hated - Watching Matt Rowell do his knee T_T

Liked: a return to normality. Full length matches, and for Victoria, getting back in the stands.
Learnt: Sydney might have a chance of making the finals this year. The sub rule doesn’t solve the imbalance caused by an injury, it only shifts the advantage to the team who sustained the injury. Perhaps if a team uses their sub for an injury, the opposition should be allowed to activate their sub on any player within 5/10min. In it’s current form I definitely would prefer it was removed entirely.
Hated: the usual early season efforts to persuade viewers that rule changes are actually having an impact on the game

Liked: Going to the footy again
The standard of footy across most games
The 3rd quarter against Essendon
20 minute quarters

Hated: The 2nd quarter against Essendon
The inconsistency between the treatment of hits to the head

Learned: Will Day is going to be a star

Liked: Bombers coughing up a big lead, footy being back and crowds in Vic
Learnt: No easy wins in 2021, but the Kangas have a really long road back. I feel their pain.
Hated: Rowell knee, slow "play on" calls killing the man-on-the-mark rule, and really ordinary umpiring at the Showgrounds (Butler decision, Steele dangerous tackle and Himmelberg?? holding the ball when he clearly got a boot on it all worth a week in the VFL).

Liked: Crows Win, Saints Win(undermanned-interstate) Jack Lonies huge snap for goal that's getting no attention

Learned: more than ever, if your 10% off in effort, you will get rolled, the medical Sub is a farce

Hated: Dangerfield (finally might get what he deserves) Astbury/Daniher - intentional hits to the head go unpunished.

Liked: footy crowds being back (even if it's at a % of the grounds capacity) and essendon giving up a very winnable lead (honestly this will eventually bite me on the ass)

Learnt: Tipping will be very hard this year. Not many people, during the preseason, would of thought either the lions or cats will be 0-2 after the first fortnight.

Hated: Channel 7 commentary. It's utterly atrocious and it would be great if foxtel/kayo would run their own commentary over channel 7 streamed games.

Hated: Rowell injury.

**** you Footy Gods. Wanna see GC improve.

Liked: Adelaide and Sydney's upsets, wish I could've watched it, would've been a blast for the fans of both respective teams and good to see those two who were expected to be relatively deep in the lower half of the ladder. North's youngsters played good

Learned: The ladder may be more volatile than expected. We should've drafted McDonald and it's going to be a long year for us, hard to see someone else winning the spoon, especially if our injury list continues being complete shit

Hated: Rowell's injury and the fact that we conceded 10 goals within the span of 20 minutes

Liked: A round 1 comeback win, better standard of footy, Adelaide and Sydney upset wins, CJ’s run and carry.

Learned: Richmond are still the team to beat, North firming for their first spoon and not many games can be taken for granted.

Hated: Danger’s bump (deserves multiple weeks based on the injury caused), Rowell’s injury (my favourite non-Hawk player)

Liked: Positives from the Pies effort? You won't have heard any of this, but Moore played well. So did Howe & Cox & Mihocek & Elliot & Noble & Pendlebury (outstanding) & Roughead & Crisp (back in the midfield at last). See. Black & white positives. Not at all newsworthy.

Learned: Double D is the last row. In a half empty stadium. The joke's on me.

Hated: The Power player who fist-bumped the goal umpire. Yes I know the goal umpire used to play for the Power blah blah blah, but it's a bad look. No umpire should express solidarity with a player. They're supposed to appear impartial.

Hated: The GWS player who sunk his knee into the face of a Saints player when he leapt to spoil a ball. Unnecessary, and you just look like a prick. Last quarter I think. If anyone knows the name of that player please let me know.

Hated: Worse than Treloar being booed was the bronx cheers for Grundy who had a less than stellar game. The Treloar booing is irrational, but I can tolerate it. The Grundy derision however, put it this way, I'd rather sit through an episode of Married At First Sight than put up with that crap. People who boo the top earning players when they don't get BOG are nothing but JEALOUS. Admit it. Just pathetic.

Hated: Why are we still being scanned as we walk into the G? Don't accept it as normal. It's not normal and it needs to stop. Our PM would say that it's a small price to pay for a greater good. No. It's an invasion of privacy and it's chipping away civil liberties. Terrorism, now Covid. Chip chip chip away for long enough until we forget old normal.

Hated: No run-through banners at the G, but it's OK for the NRL.

Hated: Beverage didn't give the Pies enough credit at his after match presser. Remember that crap? I don't know what's worse, a club with an inferiority complex, or journos desperate for a story.

Hated: SportsSunday on 9. Midday. A poor man's Footy Classified I guess, and that's saying something. Basically 4 idiots sit around trying to decide if they should be shocked & appalled by the weeks events. Who needs that crap on a Sunday? Rutton & Scott lose the unlosable, and yet they focus on Buckley. Boring & predictable. Who produces this s**t? That's not rhetorical. If anyone knows who produces that crap, let me know.

Hated: At the G on Friday night I got the chills, then I broke out in a sweat, and then headaches. The next morning I got tested, but I'm fine. It was just the umpiring. They can't 'put the whistle away' just for the sake of continuous play. There's such a thing as a rule book. Stop ignoring it. And what the hell happened to 'in the back'? If it's too hard to adjudicate, we'll have to reintroduce the 'hands in the back' rule.

What do you think we are being scanned for?

Liked: Exciting upsets
Learnt: Last week's winners are only gonna play each other and last weeks losers are only gonna play each other (Except 9th game port v essendon), so gonna be both an even start to the year and an early look at who really came back as good teams.
Hated: Incessant talk on new rule changes (man on mark, reduced intercap, sub). Actually throw in the sub rule as a hated too.

Hated: The Power player who fist-bumped the goal umpire. Yes I know the goal umpire used to play for the Power blah blah blah, but it's a bad look. No umpire should express solidarity with a player. They're supposed to appear impartial.
You miserable person.

It's David Rodan. He's as good a bloke who has ever played the game. Get over it.

Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time. It's just not worth it.

Liked: Winning. Watching the underdogs in Adelaide and Sydney get up.

Learned: We are desperate need of a new forward line coach.

Hated: The flogs who booed Treloar.

Liked: Seeing young sides play high risk, care free footy!

Disliked: How the dumb the man on the mark looks when he’s on the 50 and he has to let the opposition essentially run past him and score.

Liked: Quarters going back to their normal length. That is what makes our game unique.

Learned: That no matter how bad the umpiring or certain umpiring decisions are, the AFL will also justify the decision.

Hated: Poor commentary mixing up players and glossing over obvious free kicks.
