I'm going to enjoy the Long Walk and the celebration of indigenous cultures and recognise the joy that indigenous footballers have brought to our game over the years. Then I may or may not watch the game. If I do, I expect I will be watching through my fingers.

Hopefully Antony Green will be providing more uplifting reports on the ABC though the latest reports indicate that I'll also be watching the election coverage through my fingers.

Matt Guelfi. Kelly and Laverde aren't suited to midfield and robs our defence.

does kelly have a tank? actually re-phrase that, does kelly have enough tank to stay with dusty? Could he just wear him all game and tackle with intent to set some kid of standard? if hes out only blue collar worker perhaps it might start something (and curtail the guy that kills us in the process)

Kelly does indeed have a tank, is noted for his high standard of training and preparation.

Problem is that structurally he'd be almost useless outside D50.

From what I can tell, these players are the ones unavailable for any selection this week:

Cox, Caldwell*, Stewart**, Stringer, Snelling, Langford, Voss, Hurley

*Murphy said he could get up for this week
**Made no mention of him in the injury report

Zerk was also apparently injured last week according to the team selection but there was no mention of what it was.

Stewart is still listed as a week.

Rutten will not drop Shiel. Mediocrity rewarded

I was just listing the players on the EFC website. Lack of communication re: Zerk is frustrating

In order of most likely to play through to least likely:
  • Wanganeen played a VFL game week before last, and probably the VFL practice match last weekend after his injury. (And he's doing dreamtime promotional stuff...)
  • Smith's knee strengthening/late in/illness/program is not the most believable scenario, so likely able to come straight in.
  • Zerk was only out for a week, whatever that was it must have been a niggle (or he's dead and they don't think it's important to tell us).
  • Stewart was test in last week's injury report, I guess he passed the test but wasn't selected give he is no longer listed as injured this week. In that sense he's "available" as far as the medical team is concerned but perhaps not fit/in form (or they prefer Reid).
  • Phillips, and Jones haven't played at all since their injuries and likely need to find form in the VFL (or perhaps they prefer Bryan/Baldwin).
  • Walla's form and fitness is apparently nowhere near the standard, so while he might not be injured, I don't think he's really very available in any realistic sense.
  • And then McBride and Hird are Cat B so not available without being upgraded afaik.
The only other players who have played before and are available are Baldwin, Waterman, Ham, who were all sub/emergencies last week. Plus Lord, McDonagh, Brand, Eyre...

Phillips or Bryan as ruck/fwd?
Jones or Francis as second tall?
Smith/Wanganeen or Waterman as sub?
Zerk/Stewart or Reid as KPD?

Smith or Wanganeen probably comes in for Caldwell if he's ruled out (with mid minutes shared among the rest). The only other way to get a second small forward into the team is to bring him in for Guelfi or send Perkins/Martin further up the ground in lieu of Cutler or someone. Or you lose the tandem ruck and put him in for Bryan.

Was waiting for a cynical response such as this one. Doesn't matter what actions the club takes from this point onwards, there will also be negative reactions by some fans.

I don't think its about a cynical response - I am all for trying things or going 'old school' but I'm not going to believe it until I see clear changes on-field. I don't want to be sitting here cynical or failing to believe in the club, but has anything to this point been offered as a reason why I shouldn't be?

Tank to stay with dusty? Dusty hardly covers any ground. Would be one of the lowest aerobic players in the league.
