Oh also Jake Lloyd take a bow. Once again won't get recognition but he deserves the Skilton this year. It's incredible to think at just 23 he's probably our most confident and assured ball-user. Prone to the odd shank (name me a Swan whose not), but heck he just gives off the impression he knows what he's doing and he's got it all under control. He's scooping up ground balls with one hand and dodging in and out of Giants like they're parking cones like he's Pendlebury. Been our best player all year and this game was no different

Callum Ward seems to get forgotten amongst the Giants all-star line up of Cameron, Patton, Shiel, Greene etc. I thought he was excellent last night - the best of the lot of them.

Both Ward and $cully have been excellent pick ups for them.
Both underperforming in Melbourne, both in the right age group (slightly ahead of the new draftees they got) to peak at the right time in their careers to coincide with the draftees hitting their potential.

GWS did a much better job in the recruitment area than GCS who basically wasted their concessions going for short term wins and not getting hammered in their early years.

Just think what 2 GWS lists could've done to the comp if GCS had been as good at their recruiting as GWS was

I was pretty critical at Lloyd after the Giants game at the SCG, I felt he never went for the hard ball. Always waited for the easy short kick but he's really proven me wrong. He's worked very hard on his inside game to give him a full all rounded ability

And his defensive game. Midway last year When he transitioned to defence he was a genuine liability in the air. He'd gets dragged to the square and desperately needed his fellow defenders to help. Now he can be relied upon to stand strong under a high ball - he's not the best going around by any means but you can trust him to give a solid contest - and he'll also yake the odd intercept mark backing into a hole.

He's a determined man, that much is clear. He'll do everything he canto become a better player and given his relative lack of size or physical attributes, he's maximising his potential for sure. Very enjoyable to watch someone get the best out of themselves like him.

Still think it was losing him so early that cost us the Hawks game and not just the loss of rotations, his distribution and play through the middle are invaluable.

We should do what we can to Nab his brother. Good attitude in the family.

Yes Reid a big chance to miss against St Kilda. One of Tippett (if fit), Sinclair, or Aliir would be a chance. Sinclair on form.

We won't need two specialist rucks against the Saints. So who knows, maybe it will be Aliir to take on Reid's role next week. Aliir, when up forward, just bring it to ground and let Papley get to work. Carlisle is a good fullback for the Saints.
I don't think there will be much support around here for Aliir to be picked next week.

I haven't made it all the way through this thread, but one thing I want to get off my chest is how wrong I was about McVeigh.

I, along with many others, were less than enthusiastic about bringing him back in, and have been less than charitable toward the coaching staff on this topic.

Horse has been very clear about getting him back, and his importance to the side. He was right. I was wrong. He's the coach, I'm a fan. I'm glad to keep the relationship on those terms!

Feels great to be back in the eight. Our list is healthy and our destiny is in our hands. A great place to be.

The run home is going to be exciting!

Another regulation Buddy goal

Agree re McVeigh.

He's like Hodge. A coach on the field. He is the ultimate traffic cop. Moves players like Melican into good spots. Distributes the ball well and is actually playing with confidence. The little turn in burn he did in the back pocket was awesome.

Same goes for KJ. You can see his hips are stronger now. He can shrug that tackle. He also works so hard both ways.

When did he scoop up a ground ball with one hand? I saw towers do it on sat night but never remember seeing Lloyd do it. This aside he has stepped up his game to another level this year. I would still rather McVeigh takes the kick ins as lloyds short passes from the back tend to give away goals from right in front now and then.

Are those who make fun of McVeigh pointing the same ones who cream their jeans when hodge does it?

Lol. 70/30 swans, and I'm being kind. It felt like our home game.
Speaking of which, do they have a cheering soundtrack? From where I was sitting (near our cheer squad), the cheers for their goals seemed extremely loud for the amount of Giants fans, particularly in their members stands, so they must either have a backing cheer soundtrack or brilliant acoustics.

It's the only area we probably need to just tidy up and that is our kick ins. Mind you it is a league wide thing- there are very few good ones around, maybe Shannon Hurn is the best.

that is true in general but when you are under absolutely no pressure at kick ins it is unforgivable.

even on the tv you could tell it was mostly swans supporters.
