Just one of those games where there's a ton of opportunities for the guys to drop their heads but we kept at it despite some mistakes, very professional win. Morrison in particular, his composure is like a 200 gamer, when he owned Goddard I was off my feet, fair size difference there. No passengers today despite the usual guys starring. Stratts marking near the end was a trademark moment, just constantly does it in big games.

Particularly pleasing because it does feel like the super pacey sides, our gameplan has never been particularly good against them.

We have had a very inconsistent season and have never been able to pull away all year. However once again this great club finds a way to stay competitive and not buckle. HFC always gives us hope. We are always in it.

Essendon best team in ten weeks... 6 day break, hawks slow etc etc really means zero. We have a culture that demands competitiveness. Even last season, we made a late charge, with so many injuries.

The season is wide open and it is up to us. We didn’t have a full team performance today so there is still loads of improvement left in us. We are building and can take on anyone when we are focused.

This is a massive win for our developing side. Geelong are beatable too Scotty.

KOLOKOTRONIS

Ben Stratton, what a ******* star! Best on ground by a mile.

Was pretty ******* livid with that play on call. Would have started a riot if we lost after that. Absolute BS.
Margettes is Goldspink MKII. Very glad to rub his face in it today.

First thoughts...
Stratton probably hasn't played a better game.
Our forwards are starting 2 realise Worpel hits targets and are leading 2 him.
We wasted our dominance in the last.
If u remove the first 5 minutes or so in the first 3 quarters we probably kick 12 goals to 1 in the rest of play. It was good that we worked our way back into the game 3 times but worrying that we allowed it in the first place.
Thought Teia played his best 2. It wasn't super but it was an improvement on anything previously. I reckon he's ended Duryea's time with us given the age difference.
Thought we fumbled and kicked poorly a lot today especially early and in the centre square gifting them some goals.
I reckon giving Morrison a rest last week was good, really ran out the game.
The barometer Henderson was good.
We'll definitely learn a lot from that game.

Not enough credit for Smith and Henderson. Whilst the weren’t in the best, they both covered so much ground and ran hard all game and were crucial at various stages.

Combined stats: 42 disposals - 14 marks - 4 goals

The entire game I had to endure a large swarm of filth fans in the standing area at M15. When they got their noses in front a few times they started mouthing off like they’d recently threepeated. It was insufferable. A few Hawks fans started giving it back to them during the game. On the siren I made sure I loudly cheered the win facing them front on - their faces were a thing of ****ing beauty.

A couple of them then actually waited around to pick fights with the Hawks fans who’d remonstrated with them. Classy bunch of ferals.

I ****ing hate Essenscum. I ****ing love Hawthorn.

That felt bloody good.

Really proud of the boys. With everyone questioning whether we would wilt against a form team and had only beaten up on bottom teams, the boys came out and gave it their all.
Go Hawks!
What a great game that was. **** your rule changes Gil!

The game was a spectacle because of the 6 6 6 setups employed by both coaches for the majority of the game?

Made for sensational viewing - I support it coming in
