Again - Daniher's difficult shot for goal after the siren. Cannot deviate so - just line up and shoot. And he nails it. It's all there - just too much thinking on approach. It's happened a number of times. Just pretend the siren's gone !

Let's supply the cheer squad with mini-sirens. Daniher just needs to hear the sound and he'll straighten up.

He needs to pick a target (which he might already do), commit to his pre-shot routine (which he might already do) and then execute. When executing he shouldn’t care whether the ball goes through for a goal or not. If he executes correctly a percentage will go through and a percentage won’t.

When timed, Tigers pre-shot routine took the same amount of time when he was committed to his process and execution to two-tenths of the second. That’s how exact it should be for a professional athlete.

Joe is either nervous about technique or thinking about results. I guarantee it.

After seeing him nail it, I've assumed he's thinking of results. When you've got perfect form after the siren, the pressure's off and it boils down to a simple yes/no - it's either through or it's not. No worrying about them going coast to coast if you miss or where you need to get to after you miss or any other concerns. That's basically no need to think more than your kick.

Like a lot of left footers he seems to deviate off his line with fairly simple direct shots over correcting with his leg swing and surprise surprise when he's forced to hold his line he kicks straight.

It took us two years to work that out with McStay and Hipwood and it's made their set shots so much easier. Does Daniher not watch them ?

Having said that a lot of left footers like Buddy use the swing of their natural arc to get extra distance and oomph into their shots on goal , something Daniher seems to try to do when he's 25m out , obviously with the predictable wild misses. When he does it correctly as he should when he's 55m out they sail through regularly enough.

Fagan keeps saying he's a very intelligent footballer so I'm hoping he works it all out in time for finals.

Coaches votes

10 Dayne Zorko (BL)
5 Joe Daniher (BL)
5 Harris Andrews (BL)
4 Jarryd Lyons (BL)
3 Zac Bailey (BL)
2 Oscar McInerney (BL)
1 Daniel Rich (BL)

interesting compared to BF voting. Hugh and Dan stiff but it was a hard game to give votes. So many played well. Glad to see Harris recognised. Thought he was huge as the only genuine KPD. Beat his man and impacted some many contests.

It was a total team effort. With us, it's either no player is worth any votes or it's too hard to just pick 5 because the entire team has put in.

Hipwood still prefers the arc and kicks better with it

Not when he's straight in front any more though. But from the boundary he's always been deadly on the arc . Sometimes when he's on his wrong foot.

If you watch these guys in the warm up they can nail them from anywhere so also a lot between the ears.

Which means a set routine and a technique/strategy from whichever point on the ground you are.

Charlie is the worst. Sometimes around the corner ,other times set shot from the same position.

Interestingly McStay rarely uses the arc. But he now runs up in a straight line under 40m whereas he used to deviate in the last couple of strides. And both he and Hipwood worked out just pick someone in the crowd behind the goals and pass it to them . Daniher still tries to kick it out of the park.

Much better delivery and pressure in the forward line on the weekend. Not just bombing it in and hoping someone would crash the pack in Hipwoods absence, only to have to spill out again. If we keep up this synergy and intensity, who knows, can go far in a few weeks I think.

I'm surprised neither coach could find a single vote for either McStay or McCluggage.

McStay, in particular

I thought he was great.
