It's a downer against the Giants, but we need to move on quick.
It will be interesting how we respond after a heartbreaker.

There is still a glimmer of hope.
Hopefully things go our way for once.

If we make it to the 8, it will be a good exposure for the boys.
If we still miss the 8 (even with a 3 straight win) at least we go out with a Bang.

Cerra - hamstring (most likely out)
Cotrell - shoulder (TBA)
Curnow - sprained ankle (TBA)

Surely we will have changes.

MacKenzie for Ward is a no brainer.
I reckon Scaife is a chance for Dear.
Morrison for CJ.

Nash to Cripps.
Simon Crawshay endorses these changes 👌

Honestly right now I think it's more a risk to keep Dear in than to let Scaife have a crack as Dear looks like he is running in fumes at the moment (no suprise for a rookie who's played all year).

The other two changes are absolute no brainers as you stated.

I'm going to assume it's Breust for Finn or Harry, and Ward for Mackenzie.

Not the time to be taking a risk on Scaife, despite Dear being a non factor yesterday.
Yeah I'd strongly consider these three ins but maybe play Breust over Gunston depending on how Carlton's def lines up.

I may be wrong but I think Dear looks fit, just struggled to impact against Taylor and Buckley yesterday.

I’m more inclined to think the Breust/Gunston double is in doubt for this game. When a game is slipping away, it’s midfield grunt we need. The Breust/Gunston double is good for turning on the percentage boost so it may be back in the final two games, but having two forwards with nothing to offer in the midfield is a setup that I think we can’t afford against Carlton. Their heros are in the midfield and forward line. Our green forwards will need to get it done without the grey hair assist.

I’d go Finn instead of mackenzie. Need the run.

When I think about Bruest and Gunners roles in the team right now I am struck with the similarities with the Boomers at the Olympics having Patty Mills and Joe Ingles.

For me they are playing very similar roles to Bruest and Gunners, veterans who still have skills (3 point shooting for Mills and Ingles and goal kicking for Bruest and Gunston) but are a liability defensively when played against younger, stronger players.

The difference is in basketball you can get away with just using ten players out of twelve and hide one of the vets on the bench (as the boomers are doing with Ingles this olympic campaign) but in footy you need all 23 players to contribute which means you really can only have one of these types playing on gameday.

That's why basically Gunners and Bruest are competing for the one spot, a specialist goal kicker who is pure offensive output only.

Ginnivan had one tackle for the day.

I don't think he was right.

Way down on previous efforts

He might make way for Chad Or Scaife.

Watson will be too quick for this lot.

Worpel will need to bring his A game this week.

Another player well below par.

I listen to Hodgey on SEN and he never rates Blues all year

I think he might come in handy for Sam Mitchell this week.

Mackenzie - Jiath
Morrison - Ward.
Finn - Gunston. (Cripps role)

  • Mackenzie is a no brainer.
  • Gunston, Bruest double at this stage in their career its a no as a collective. It didn't work in Geelong and we conceded 3 goals from f-50 in the last quarter on the weekend.
  • Jiath, had the fumbles up all day and had opportunities to straight line the ball which he hesitated.

ginni was BOG 3 weeks ago. I don't think he goes out for chad or Scaife. Scaife only gets a shot if Sammy thinks Dear needs a rest.

I am a fan of Serong and his form is the most consistent at BHH this year. I think he would give us extra flexibility in match ups and allows Hardwick and or Weddle to play more attacking roles. Deserves another crack IMO.

Love to see Serong in to play on one of their key forwards, and push Weddle up the park, think this could be the game to do it.
Just unsure how the puzzle pieces would fit at the selection table.

Ward out - McKenzie in.

Gunston plays on Weitering.
Unsure how Morrison gets in.

Somewhat agree with those calling for CJ’s omission as he’s been too inconsistent while someone like Morrison continues to perform for Box Hill. I wouldn’t drop him entirely as given CJs speed and ability to play around the ground a bit he could be the ideal sub. In addition play Morrison down back and allow Amon to play on the wing. I’d be more inclined also to keep Ward in so as to not ruin his confidence entirely - make him want to make amends in the seniors.

Let’s blood Scaife and see what he can do - allow Chol and Dear to feast off the second and third best defenders.

Moore, Ginni and Watto provide enough smaller forwards - we don’t need Breust as a sub.

Ins: Morrison, Scaife, McKenzie

Outs: Gunston, Breust, CJ (sub)
