Lol, if Wayne Carey can have a prominent media career I think Zorko’s can survive this.

Carey is one of the top handful of players in the history of the game, which gives him a pretty good head start re getting media gigs.Lol, if Wayne Carey can have a prominent media career I think Zorko’s can survive this.
Just need to put it on hold for a decade or so, after which everyone will be happy to call him a great bloke in the Channel 7 box.It certainly won’t help Zorko’s media aspirations.
I say this tongue in cheek, but perhaps he's to old to get up and down to the coaches box quickly enough or his dodgy legs are preventing from doing so which is why he stay at ground level. He seems to have an unusual walking gait or proppy walking like Harris Andrews. Just a thought.A few coaches seem to be at ground level. But most I think go down there as a bit of a tactic to fire up the players?
I think the ground-level coach makes sense for a young team where the players need to get the message straight from the coach about a new game-plan etc.
For a seasoned coach and team I don't really get the ground-level coaching. Fagan should be able to trust the players will be putting in, and be more focused on the tactial battle with other coaches. It seems to me telling that we never seem to react to surprises from the other side. I remember v GWS in Brisbane Fagan saying they started thinking should they put someone behind the ball, but by the time they were going to we had steadied anyway. The Giants smashed us for at least 15 minutes so that seems like a slow reaction time.
They probably could have added a few more minutes of unsavoury habits and 50's that werent included either.
If we play well and put in effort we can absolutely beat Richmond.
If we serve up what we did last night? Don’t even bother.
I have also noticed Answerth's failures in positioning and been quite critical in the past. As you said he would be right on the fringe in my books but does seem guaranteed a game. Would almost prefer Prior in his position across half back. There's a lot in this video but one thing that stands out and has been bugging me for a while is how much space we give small forwards. Answerth is giving Pickett a huge amount of space and he was the one guilty of giving Bolton the same when he tore us apart.
I dont know if this is coached or just a player mistake, but for a lockdown defender (who isnt a good ball user) this just isnt good enough. We have been getting carved up for a while by small forwards and I think we cant continue with Answerth doing this. Unless he can either tighten up his defence or massively improve his ball use, I dont see how he can remain best 22
If he is operating under instruction for a zone defence it may not be his problem.......who was Starce on? I think I saw him near him before I turned the TV off during the 2nd quarter. There's a lot in this video but one thing that stands out and has been bugging me for a while is how much space we give small forwards. our zone defence gets cut to pieces by our mids and forwards letting the ball through easily. If he is operating under instruction for a zone defence it may not be his problem.......who was Starce on? I think I saw him near him before I turned the TV off during the 2nd quarter.
Noah is as hard as nails and regularly puts himself in the hole at risk of being crunched. Every team needs hard at it defenders like Noah and he is clearly highly respected by the coaching staff and teammates.I’d much prefer Madden in over Answerth. I don’t know why Answerth is a walk up start.

Gary Lyon tooLol, if Wayne Carey can have a prominent media career I think Zorko’s can survive this.
Yup, I remember Hipwood, Daniher and McCarthy being the only Lions players at a potential marking contest, and all 3 went up, the ball spilled and the Melbourne small defender who stayed down crumbed the ball and waltzed out of the 50.We have a problem across most of the ground where our players don't setup for the crumb. If you watch Pickett at every contest, he never goes for the mark if there is someone else there, instead gets front and square immediately.
I noticed an instance in the first quarter where Answerth went up to contest a big pack mark, while his direct opponent turned around front and square, got the crumb and off they went.
Our smalls in the forward line also have massive problems in the same regard. It's why Bailey looks so good up forward as he actually crumbs.Yup, I remember Hipwood, Daniher and McCarthy being the only Lions players at a potential marking contest, and all 3 went up, the ball spilled and the Melbourne small defender who stayed down crumbed the ball and waltzed out of the 50.
I've been thinking this for some time. It's great if small forwards can mark but if you've got 3 tall guys down there then what is the point . The primary role of your smalls is to lead, crumb, tackle and fill in the gaps downfield if it reversesOur smalls in the forward line also have massive problems in the same regard. Agreed, we could use a defensive focused forward, one that sets his game up on tackles and pressure. I think Lohmann is a bit too much of a third tall type (even if he does project as a good player), the only one really on our list that looks like that could be Blake Coleman. Not sure how he's been going in the reserves though.I've been thinking this for some time. It's great if small forwards can mark but if you've got 3 tall guys down there then what is the point . It's knowing the rare occasions when you can go for a big grab and working out how to get it when it hits the ground ,which it mostly does , for the majority of the time.
I don't think we have the balance quite right. Too many stars ,not enough indians. Everytime Ah Chee has played forward he's been very good because he doesn't try to be any focal point .Just mops up ,holds it up ,and dishes it off when he gets it.
I know there seems to be a lot of pile on for Answerth.I still think back to the Richmond game at the G and remember being in total shock as I watched Noah Answerth run to a contest on other side of the ground and completely leaving Shai Bolton all by himself ! This was after Bolton was already cutting us to pieces. Absolutely mind boggling that he would think that was a smart decision and that the coaching staff didn't pick up on it. Just total disregard for opponent let alone a lethal opponent.
I know there seems to be a lot of pile on for Answerth.
We play zone defence and two of our defenders Kiddy and Rich play way off their man mostly as attacking option.
Which leaves Answerth to cover Kiddy and Rich.. You often see him get into a hole and get smashed to stop a mark.
You cannot get in that hole and cover for Kiddy/Rich who often end up forward of centre and be a tight tag on your player.
Starc normally does a more close checking role on a forward.
No idea why Starc was not on Pickett or Bolton. He held so many players this year.
fair enough still rather our defence play more one on one.Pretty sure Starc was playing on Petracca when forward. Although he had a pretty off first quarter.
He was injured vs the tigers and didn't play.
