Crows home navy shorts, Hawks home white shorts.

That's what'd happen, 100%. Which just shows the ridiculousness of tonight's matchup – I understand clubs wanting to flog off alternate jumpers but if there's an opportunity for both clubs to wear home jumpers without a clash, and the only thing that needs 'compromising' is who wears dark shorts, then just do it.

Puopolo should get fined for his boots

Puma's recent trend in flair-inspired boot designs has failed miserably, I feel. Whatever happened to their clean, simplistic, leather, straight to the point styles that used to be synonymous with Australian Rules? They're trying so hard to be all Adidas F50 and Nike Mercurial but it just.isn't.them.

First official response from Richmond re faded looking guernsey:

I own a Richmond clash jumper and the colours are still light and thin. It's not just the player issues. Ultimately BLK has had this issue for a good three seasons. They don't need to trial new jumpers in round one – they can trial them every few weeks! Just send the club new versions every week until it's finally right. The AFL won't care.

You're basically deluded if you think BLK are capable of improving. They are cheap and nasty.

This all comes from companies wanting to outdo one another. The World Cup has become the flagship event. In 2014 I think all of the big three corporations had variants or pink or orange, and then Puma tried the one-blue-one-pink look and it was just stupid.

I always thought the best way to stand out in these occasions would be to have a company exclusively in black boots...

Each year PUMA release a "Tricks" edition in both their Evo Speeds and Evo Power boots. Yes they might be out there and not your cup of tea to most people but the players are getting payed and told what boots to wear most of the time. And yes the classic black boot look is amazing but it's hard for players to wear a black pair of boots if all brands are releasing bright coloured boots.

The issue with this fixture is Adelaide's hoops and how a significant amount of the guernsey is blocks of gold and orange.

Considering finals are neutral, lionbears suggestion (although not ideal) is probably what the AFL would end up with to try and get both club's in their primary guernseys.

Prisonbar Petes suggestion would introduce a 4th colour to Adelaides kit which would contribute to the mish-mash of colours. As I said above, the 'minor' colour(s) makes up more of Adelaide's guernsey than it does on Hawthorn's.

Adelaide's white alternate this year is bloody good though. So much better than the blob design they have had for the past few years.

Seriously, when a club or two wins a premiership in an alternate kit, the hand-wringing about needing to play in a decider in the main guernsey will subside.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all.

You open another can of worms by introducing another colour to Hawthorn's home kit. As Hawthorn have a predominantly lighter-coloured home guernsey, they'd be expected wear a foreign colour in their kit in most home games. If they choose to do it, then that's another matter.

I suppose it isn't as significant for Geelong and North Melbourne as the white shorts are club colour, but I don't believe they should be made to alter their kit at all either if they're the home club, unless they choose too. For the record, I reckon Geelong's kit looks better all-white anyway, but that's a personal preference rather than what the AFL should be doing.

But Hawthorn and other clubs shouldn't be dictated to with regard to what colours they should be playing in when entertaining their corporate sponsors and paid-up members. They're paying the bills. It's their home game.

That's what I'm at right now.
You're doing it well so far - looks like you've got the job! You could even put the known use dates next to them (so I can at least regain a little cred in the jumper tipping comp!)

Geelong and North would argue the same.

At the same time, we need to move past the notion that white shorts means "away team".

So in a nutshell you're saying that it's still important that teams can choose what colour shorts they wear at home, even if it means putting another team into white shorts for no good reason. I find that a pretty archaic viewpoint, most clubs don't seem to care at all about shorts — it's the jumper that's important.

Gold shorts. GOLD SHORTS. You know it's a good thing.
