round 5: an easy 8 tips?

West coast- Sydney games are usually pretty close.

Big rivals like essendon-pies can go either way, form is irrelevant more often than not.

Hawks have so far done nothing of note so north could very well cause an upset.

There will likely be at least one upset

Based on form alone you absolutely have to pick 8 teams.

Personally I think that the bogey games are Melbourne vs Brisbane, Hawthorn vs North and Essendon vs Collingwood.

Ess v Coll - Obvious why, big blockbuster game, Pies with the tendancy to play down to opposition level, Essendon with a lot to prove after being simply abysmal last week. Both are "upset" criteria.

Melb v Bris - Melbourne are playing good hard football. Brisbane were far from impressive last week despite the win. On the positive of Brisbane, one of the things that was so bad last week was the way they entered their forward 50, but against Melbourne's defenders Brown should beast them with the long bombs in, no Brian Lakes this week. Brisbane should win but will need to play better than last week, never thought I'd say that about a team facing Melbourne after beating the Dogs...

Haw v NM - Hawthorn are clearly more talented but injuries are really adding up. Thompson will probably cause Franklin to do something stupid with his niggling. Hawks were very poor last week. North were also very poor in the 2nd half. North have shown more "character" to rebound from bad weeks so far. Hawthorn though should win because they have a lot more talent.

All the other games are rather one sided. Sydney should thrash WC based on form, no one has played football any worse than WC so far except for maybe Richmond and Essendon for one game.

This is a nothing week in tipping. Anyone worth their weight will be tipping the same 8 teams as everyone else, so even an upset will mean nothing.

I wouldn't tip them, but $4.90 is great value for West Coast. Swans have beaten 14th, 15th and 16th on the ladder.

Admittedly, West Coast lost to 14th. But on paper I think their squad isn't far away from the Swans and they ran them very close at ANZ last year.

A large reason they're where they are on the ladder is because we beat them convincingly. Yes, they're shit, but we have contributed to their poor form and position, it's not JUST a case of them being rubbish.

I think we'll beat west coast easily.

Melbourne are a big threat to roll the Lions in melb, they did it in 08 when they were a wooden spoon side and brisbane are due for an off week.

Roos are a shot to take down the hawks, had a great record vs them in the past few years and the hawks have had 3 massive games in a row, i'll tip the hawks but only because its season over if they lose if they were 2-2 i'd tip north.

Other then that:
Adelaide are a rabble
The pies are a cut above the bombers
Sydney are playing a bit too good for WC but if it was at Subi WC could easily win.
Freo have another win in the bag, have to laugh at confidently tipping these guys be a nice start to the season at 4-1.
Carlton vs Geelong well I was very confident until the cats blew port away last week I still think were a shot at winning, it is after all 20 months and 19 days since Geelong last beat carlton and no one else can say that :)

I agree. No Kerr, Lynch out of form and in the twos, a pretty young list, and a strong dislike for the SCG should see us win pretty well this week. Looking forward to see Naitanui up against Mumford and Seaby...

anzac day games invariably see the outsider lift. wouldn't be surprised to see ess give a very good account but really can't see any way they'll sustain it for 4 quarters and get over the line. pies have come through a trying 1st month with flying colours and won't be dropping this they are a couple of classes ahead of the dons right now

get on the dees for the upset of the week. will announce themselves as top 8 contenders this week. they are genuinely a pretty reasonable side, esp with sylvia now back

This is a game the bombers could win.

The swans will beat West Coast.

I don't think Essendon will beat Collingwood. The Pies pressure was super against us on Saturday and if they play anywhere near that, most teams will struggle to get near them

Brisbane aren't heading into a split-round like in '08, they have a new coach who's not biding his time, and they have a better team. I'm pretty sure Voss would've added that '08 game to the GAMES TO LEARN FROM checklist like the Port '09 game @ AAMI and the '09 semifinal loss to the Doggies and he would've made a big note about what happened to the Pies in Rnd 2 as well.

Brisbane are playing like they're on a mission and they are ticking all the boxes atm. They won't lose.

Not really true, Nicky. Adelaide and Richmond are both winless and if the Kangaroos had lost by one point rather than forty they'd still be in 14th.

You should beat West Coast easily, but $5 is over the odds. Sydney are in okay form, but their ladder position is deceptive.

No... their ladder position COULD be deceptive if we don't beat some in form teams. As it stands, the swans position cannot be proven to be deceptive.
