Their first Sydney jumper was alright, with the White back. It would look mint with today's games and jumper designs.
Just to add to the above, I reckon the only reason why Sydney won't change their current jumper or design is because they've won 2 flags in it (2005, 2012) and made consecutive finals series and a few losing grand finals in it.

There is nothing wrong with the Sydney Home jumper with red shorts it works well because the back is the same colour as the shorts and the yoke. It doesn't quite work with white shorts because of the red back and white front make it look too disjointed.

Collingwood's black jumper is similar it just looks weird with white shorts and the white - white combo looks much more visually appealing.

They would only need to have a red based clash jumper to wear away against Geelong and North and it would eliminate the clash they have with GWS.

The clash GWS and Sydney have is the AFL and Giants fault (not saying that you're implying otherwise). GWS need a charcoal-backed jumper.

Technically Sydney/South's never clashed with North or Geelong previously when they wore mainly white but with today's "rules" a red jumper, should they ever switch to white, would need to be kept.

If they have red clash then they will look like gcs and swans
But they wont be wearing red against Gold Coast or Sydney.

This is where the AFL jumper policy shits me. Clubs can have perfectly reasonable clash jumpers that are not white and will not clash. Both the Dogs and Crows should have red clash jumpers, because there is no way in hell they'll ever need to wear their red jumper against these two sides.

So Adelaide were pretty close to hawthorn colours. Hence, for identity purposes if nothing else, a red clash would look better.
I think they went with the yellow because Bulldogs have white in their colours and have a a white clash themselves. Not sure how red would look against the Bulldogs, might confuse Troy Pannel even more

I really feel that you're picking on the minor details of my post instead of discussing the major issue, but here goes.
St Kilda played a MCG home game this year and they've played them in previous years as well and if it was up to the club they would play at least 2 home games a year at the MCG. St Kilda regularly host Collingwood at the MCG.
St Kilda played them there this year in a GF anniversary match; previous years they've been a higher-drawing matchup around the time both clubs were playing in GFs. Nobody, not least Eddie, considers them "Big 4" though.

Actually it was because the AFL disallowed our previous design due to Eddie's bitching.
But it was still someone at St Kilda who decided on that specific jumper as a replacement, and it then got ticked off by the AFL. They could have designed something more to your taste.

I prefer the white - it would solve so many problems - but fine, accepting your point.

If they follow the same rules other teams - Unless Carlton wore the white clash jumper, Collingwood should wear white shorts when playing Carlton (like Kangaroos and Cats do against most clubs). Making both clubs wear essentially black and white is just downright stupid.

Actually they should wear white shorts against pretty much any team that doesn't have white on their jumper, accept for the unofficial "Red short rule". Same rules.
As I said a few posts ago, Collingwood's home jumper is still, as a whole, more black than it is white. This is especially proven by the fact they have a white with black stripes jumper, and nobody argues that it's black enough to be considered a dark kit. White shorts would help, yes, but they'd be the only team forced into light shorts with a dark home jumper in a home game. Which would be yet another bending of the rules. The "White shorts at home" rule is for teams who have jumpers that are mainly white. NM and Geelong both have white backs with coloured numbers and hoops/stripes. Collingwood have a black back with white numbers and stripes.

Simple solution - Collingwood wears whatever the heck they want and the AFL put Carlton in their clash jumper, just as they do to PA, Adel, Fremantle.

Until such day that Collingwood choose to switch back to white, that is the only acceptable solution to me under the current set-up, as it's following the same rules applied to most other clubs.

No they wouldn't. St Kilda have been forced to do this at home games. We had to do it at a home game vs Hawthorn once, it was unbelievable.

There was a weird period where the slightest bit of white meant you wore white shorts, yes.

Again due to you picking on small points instead of working on the major argument, I'll rephrase - but they'd be the only team forced into light shorts with a dark home jumper in a home game at the present time.

If it was so unbelievable then for your team, why are you advocating it now for a different team?

I'm not, I'm pointing out that if it Collingwood are the ones requesting that their opponents wear a dark jumper in these matches contrary to the ordinary application of the uniform rules then they (Collingwood) should be the ones that wear a light jumper and if they don't want to do that then their opponent must wear their own (the opponent) light jumper.

I'm an advocate of that a teams uniform consists of the whole kit jumper, shorts and socks.

St Kilda should only ever wear the black backed jumper with black shorts and similarly Collingwood should only ever wear black shorts with the black based jumper, If they need to wear white shorts then they need to be in there white based jumper, the same as I'd expect for the saints.

For one thing the full white based kit is a lot more visually appealing than the mix and match.

If St Kilda were to ever bring back the Crusader jumper I'd expect it to be a red based kit with red back and red shorts.

To be fair, given Hawks at the time didn't have a proper clash (or they did and didn't want to wear it) and often didn't wear white shorts with their home kit, it was probably the only decent solution. It didn't look that bad really, but I see your point given West Coast have had the same issue over the years with their Tripe Anal jumper.

It's just madness. Would be like Liverpool playing man united with both teams in full home kit (full red v red shirt, white shorts, black socks) and not changing due to "historical reasons".
Collingwood should wear whatever they want but away team always should wear clash. Blues should've worn white on weekend. Bombers should've worn red Anzac Day.

I was fortunate enough to go to that game while on holiday in Melbourne (probably the only time I'll see the MCG) and it was near impossible for me to distinguish the two teams. Admittedly, I was in the nosebleed section, but even so, a red jumper would have done wonders for the matchup. I can't fathom how bad the Carlton game would have been only two weeks later!
