Shield Round 8: Western Australia vs Queensland, WACA, 1-4 March

Carey’s keeping is good and he did get a 65 against the Windies. That said, Inglis has overtaken him in white ball cricket and Carey’s batting has been so-so for about a year now. He’s not under immediate pressure but Inglis is standing right over his shoulder.

Carey's spot is safe for a few tests yet, but a poor showing vs India will see the pressure mount, especially if Inglis keeps making Shield runs.

The one thing holding back Inglis is his lack of Shield game time.

And he gets the ton. We would've been rolled by now without it.

He'll have the next game and potentially the final to continue posing the question to the selectors.

Great work by Ingo. He now just needs to make consistent runs now. Inglis should have got the gig over Carey initially but imo Carey is safe in the test side atm

England will tap on Inglis shoulder if Aussies don't pick him soon enough ....probably won't play for England but would get a game with England :)
Quite a talent with the bat and good keeper .

You have to wait 4 years after your last international game before you are allowed to play for another country*

Inglis isn't going to wait that long, especially as he's in the white ball teams

*the associate countries are the exception, eg Tim David for Singapore

Its almost at the point where Inglis is above the domestic grade now, should be taking the gloves in the T20's bizarre that he isn't.

Carey has earnt his spot with his keeping, Inglis would certainly strengthen the batting side though, Carey won't be dropped until either his keeping goes away or Australia start losing consistently, harder to carry an average bat like Carey if the rest of the team isn't picking up that slack.

you cannot consistently carrying a player who is not performing with the bat at seven....carey is under the pump and needs a score next test

He's averaging 30 so going OK.

Whilst we keep winning series, or not losing them, people will be safe IMO.
Not when his main competition Inglis is making tons in the shield that's two in 2 shield games for Josh

Winning or losing you need to contribute...the pressure is on Carey he needs a score next test. And its not only he is not contributing with the bat its the way he is getting out.....Recent test falls for the trap twice consistently hits on the up through the offside. He is not using his head when batting and throws his wickets away on a regular basis. Its a pattern and has been covered up by our great bowling unit.

and with only white ball to come for the rest of the year Carey will not get an opportunity to represent Aus internationally ...Inglis will

Can't agree with you Westy.

Thought Inglis has only played one Shield game this year.

Carey averaging 55 in two Shield games this year.
He's also keeping better than ever.

When you're winning, you can afford to back players in.
As mentioned previously, it's harder to get out of the side than in.

They’re both playing international cricket though.
They're not playing international cricket at the same time though are they?

When one is playing the other is immediately seen in a better light because that's how the Australian cricket fandom works. If someone fails, their alternative would have definitely succeeded if it wasn't for the hopeless selectors.

Inglis is the most wasted talent in the history of cricket, possibly all sports.
The hopeless selectors should be ashamed of themselves

If NSW win both, we’d need to win both. SA look like they could frustrate them. QLD frustrating us but surely we can get the last three in three hours (minus tea).
Yeah, it's dragged on longer than I'd like considering the flurry of wickets early on, but they should still get it done with plenty of overs to spare.

The NSW / SA game has just taken another turn & going down to the wire
