Amazingly, we lost the Inside 50's by 37-42.

That's why I think our defenders deserve most of the kudos.

We mopped up and controlled the dirty ball in the back half magnificently.

Our midfielders did a power of work in the back half as well.....Neale, Lyons and MRobbo were superb in that area.

Well done Lions

Elaborate?
I will, if you listen to some on here you would think that they both were the answer to our KPF woes. Maybe I am being reactionary to that. I believe that Draper actually showed more than both and that being on a winning team of 60points assisted them. The amount of bashing that McStay gets is honestly ridiculous and some here will think that my outlook is the same for Ballenden and Skinner.

I dont think any of us here are claiming having them both in has "solved" anything. Both are playing roles by other players not available and, in doing so, we won very well and they played their roles fine.

Will they keep blokes like McStay or even Martin out of the team? Time will tell.

Massive win, had a cheeky fiver on it with a mate but still wasn't comfortable until deep into the fourth with how we have been letting games slip away. Not tonight though!

I must of missed Berry's game, he wasn't bad, just didn't feel like I noticed him as much this week and I put it down to CEY being included and limiting his time in the middle. CEY did a few nice things, some great tackles, it's really noticable having a guy his size moving through the midfield. He just acts like a brick wall it's crazy. I can't wait to see what a player with Berry's disposal can do when he ends up that size.

I felt like we learnt a lot about how the coaches view Answerth and Witherden tonight. Witho played that back sweeper role that Lester has been playing and Answerth seemed to replace Rich with some run and attack off half back. I could see Witho holding his spot over Lester even when he comes back from injury, pending the height of other forward line matchups. He played very well tonight.

As for the forwards, it was good to see both Skinner and Ballenden get in the goals. Neither looked great in the ruck, but I liked Ballenden upforward. Good lead, took a few contested marks and most importantly kicked accurately from 45. Skinner I thought did well to impact that game around the ground in the second half, but he didn't really look that likely when the ball was inside the forward 50, his only goal being an out the back.

They both have another week to impress before McStay comes back, but on tonight's game I think McStay playing further up the ground with Ballenden closer to goal will be the more dangerous setup. We will have to be a bit more defensive in the middle when Ballenden is rucking, but I think our mids are pretty used to sharking the opponents taps.

Anyone got any more word on The Big O? Couldn't help but think of that scene from Happy Gilmore as he was chasing Cutler down the wing.

As a aside, really proud of Witho too. Some trash was said about him after our Giants game last year. He came in and played really well. I think Fages said he had some ferociousness about him? Great to see.

So many of our backs and forwards can conceivably play in the mids too. I dream about grand finals where we bamboozle our opponents by throwing Cameron, McCarthy, Bailey, McCluggage, Starcs and Answerth in and out of the middle :D

How does Lester retain his spot when Answerth and Witherden played well above anything he has produced all year?

Lester plays third tall which neither answerth or witho are equipped to do. Our backline was very short tonight but the bombers don’t have any fit talls so it didn’t matter.

He had 10 contested possessions which was equal third on the ground. Previously when he’d get 20+ touces it would sometimes feel like it was 90% uncontested/cheap kicks. Very impressive.

Swap Ah Chee for someone like Payne if we want a third tall.

Just. Freaking. Awesome.

long time waiting, and that was worth it.

No sign of fatigue other than Robbos cramp in the last minute. Time to maul some tigers.

Richmond have had the wood on us for about 1,000 years and they have a massive advantage coming off a 6 day break compared to our 4.

I remain more hopeful than optimistic.

But 4 of us have our tickets for next Tuesday night and will do our best to get the boys home.

GO LIONS!!!

You want young talls to show signs and both did. I was really worried early because Skinner looked really cumbersome and Ballenden was way too easily pushed off the footy but to their credit they both worked into the contest to a reasonable level.

I think to support what you are saying though is that I don’t know that I’d be all that confident going into a final with either/both of them in a key position role based on tonight. Neither looks to be the immediate answer and the gap between them and McStay is pretty stark right now.

Both will be better for the run though and both have some improvement in them. They will both get one more game, with potentially more to come depending on who stays in when McStay returns. We’ll be in a much better position to judge then.

Fages didn't seem worried about Big O. I thought it was his wrist the way he was holding it (or his ribs?) Hope he's good for the Tigers!

Nothing as beautiful as seeing him in full flight chasing down someone. One day he'll pull off a rundown tackle and the Gabba will implode :)

Not to be a Debby (apologies to all Debbys) but Ballenden and Skinner are a concern but early days and not sure there is the depth there that some here think. On the flip of that I was really impressed by Answerth and Witherden, great game by both and feel very confident with them back there.

Sorry but is a Debby like a Karen or more of a not happy Jan?

Yes agree.

Some of the stuff he copped after that SF loss to the Giants was appalling,

As if his inability to chase down Daniells was the defining point in the game.

We lost that game because of repeated stupid, dumb use of the footy going forward in the last quarter, mot to mention the most blatant throw of the season being missed by all 3 umps being blindsided (apparently)

I like Witho and was really happy to see him play so well tonight
