I concur. Out of curiosity, where can I find some of these basic design principles? I feel like I would know them once I see them..
I mean, one would have to be to have a logo that works on more than one coloured background, or is able to be arranged so it can work on clashing backgrounds.

They're gonna do it. Those crazy bastards, they're actually gonna do it...

Unfortantly I think they're just doing a 25th anniversary jersey as a one off, I think it's unlikely that they'll go back to their original colours full time, but the West Coast Eagles did it this year so it's still a mystery as what the Warriors have planned for their jersey come 2019

I know this isn't kits specifically but it will no doubt tie in with kits next year.

‘Future-proofing the game’: NRL sews up logo revamp
OCTOBER 20, 2018

THE NRL has relaunched its Telstra Premiership logo giving it a simple, flexible and dynamic revamp.

For the first time in the game's history, the NRL logo which appears on clubs jerseys will be individualised and matched with club colour schemes.

"We wanted to make sure we are future-proofing the game" said the NRL's general manager brand and marketing Peter Jarmain.

"The previous brand was outdated. We wanted to make sure it was contemporary, progressive and connecting with some of our younger fans. It's a fresher look. We wanted to make sure the brand works seamlessly with our club brands."

It is the first logo change since 2012. The logo highlights the shield and chevron. The shift follows an extensive research and consultation process which started last year and included focus groups with key stakeholders including fans, clubs, partners and media. A black and white version will be the main logo in use for the premiership.

The premiership logo will now be distinctly different to the NRL corporate logo, one of the key messages from the research.

"We want to clearly differentiate our corporate brand and the Telstra Premiership" Jarmain said. "It's a dynamic brand. It can evolve. So it's not as static as the previous brand."

"The key thing is the brand change in its own right is just one aspect. What you're seeing coming through in the game is a new era. Great emerging talent, new players, new stadiums coming on line in the next few years. This initiative is part of a number of things that are starting to shape the new era in rugby league."

Jarmain said he expected this logo to have a shelf life of up to seven years. The brand research found the perception was that rugby league had been a "fractured" sport.

"We hadn't been aligned" Jarmain said "the research showed a lot of infighting in the game. What has come out the back of that was a desire for the game to be united."

So that is the logo for up to the next 7 years.

Yep, way to go NRL, create a bland looking brand that has a limited shelf life, rather than one that can last for decades with only little tweaks to keep it fresh and recognisable.

NRL unveil new competition branding

The NRL is set to launch a bold new look for its Telstra Premiership.

The new look aims to modernise the Telstra Premiership brand as well as integrate it more seamlessly with the 16 clubs.

The new brand, highlighting the shield and the chevron - which have both been synonymous with Rugby League since the games inception - will be formally unveiled when the NRL Telstra Premiership 2019 schedule is announced later this month.

The shift follows an extensive research and consultation process which began in 2017, and included extensive focus groups with key stakeholders including fans, Clubs, partners and media.

The refreshed simple and modern design, developed in conjunction with brand and design agency WiteKite and research agency Futures Sport, will be far more adaptive to digital environments, and is designed to attract new audiences. The refreshed look will encompass a full design refresh that contemplates everything from ball to broadcast.

The Telstra Premiership logo will now be distinctly different to the NRL corporate logo - one of the key callouts from the research carried out across the process.

"The Telstra Premiership is competing with far more than just other sports," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said.

"It competes in the world of entertainment, which is a highly competitive landscape. And whilst the Telstra Premiership competition is undoubtedly one of Australia's most exciting and entertaining experiences for fans, we need to ensure our brand evolves with this changing landscape."

NRL General Manager of Brand and Marketing Peter Jarmain said the NRL undertook extensive fan feedback when deciding on the new look.

"It was important that we keep the shield and the chevron, which have such historical significance for the code," Mr Jarmain said.

"But the aim was to modernise those very important symbols.

"The new design is more youthful and contemporary, to help the game connect to a younger fan base.

"But it also allows us to be integrated seamlessly with the 16 club brands, where the true point of connection lies for fans."

South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said the Clubs supported the new brand, particularly the strong integration with the Club network.

"One of the key benefits of the refreshed design is the ability for the brand to be more closely integrated with the club brands." Mr Solly said. "This is a change in direction and a welcome one. We have 16 wonderful club brands; and this closer integration will help reinforce the connection between fan, club and competition.

"Ultimately, we want more people engaged with our great game. A more modern and progressive look, can only help that."

Melbourne Storm CEO Dave Donaghy said the game continues to grow with the changing sport and entertainment landscape.

"The new look is simple, modern and clean - something that aligns with the Storm's own recent new brand refresh," Mr Donaghy said.

"Importantly, it helps to position the game in the increasingly competitive market to retain and attract fans in the future."

Yep, great job.*end sarcasm*

How bad is the integration on the Dragons jersey.

Overall I don't mind it. The Tele's graphic is honking though, not even remotely accurate chronology of the premiership logo.

But that aside I think this will be implemented then most will forget about it. The thing I'm most pleased with is the A-League style colour integration on jerseys. a green shield on all the jerseys has always been honking IMO

The man, the myth..

One thing that hasn't popped up with the design principles that have been posted is the white outline between logo and background.

Note that there's nothing separating Storm Man (ffs get a better symbol for the club) from the purple backing. The logo gets lost in the purple background. Should there always be a white (or light colour) outline to a logo?
Here's an example of what I mean.

Obviously the left looks better, but is there a codified rule as to how to navigate it?

It certainly adheres to modern design and honestly I don't mind it. Like the new Premier League logo or even the new Victorian Government logo when I first saw it I just thought it was bland. But the beauty of these simple logos is in their versatility. I rate the new NRL logo more highly than the A-League/FFA logo anyway.

Does this also mean we will see a new Blues and Maroons logo too?

I'd guess the whole corporate would be re-designed like last time.

The article Craegus quoted specifically said that it wouldn't though.

Corporate is just getting a slight refresh.

These state ones might change in the future but there's no plans for that to happen at the moment. The only changes are the minor refresh of the corporate logo as per craegus and the new Premiership logo - which like any good logo has a stacked, linear and long version.

I have noticed on the Warriors store that there is just one sponsor on the back of the Warriors "back to the future" jersey as well as the 25 years logo

Whereas on a facebook video pictured below, Mazda appears as a sponsor on the back above the 25 years logo and makes the jersey look a bit more North Melbourne like than an Auckland/New Zealand Warriors jersey
