Canterbury were excepted into the E.f.l last night.

Would be very suprised if they went to EFL, considering 2 points..

The league has an agrreement with AFL/Footy vic that no teams are permittted leave SFL (except for extraordinary circumstances, which I doubt Cobra's face...) unless folding is the only other option, I think for next 5 years??

They have been in Div 3 now for last 3/4 years, why would EFL want them, are they goin got be competitive, push for highergrades.. I think not, at least for the near future, also don't think the have the $$$ to compete..

Just my (some what educated) opinion..

All it says is that the EFL has received an application from Canterbury FC to join Division 4.

It doesn't say anything about being accepted (not excepted) and it also doesn't say anything about the SFL clearing them to leave.

I think some more investigation is required on your part.

So in conclusion, you have no idea... but thanks for your input.

CANTERBURY FC SEEKS RETURN TO THE EAST

Recently the Eastern Football League received a request from the Canterbury Football Club to join the Eastern Football club for season 2009. The rationale behind the move is primarily a football argument - Canterbury aim to grow the game in their local area, whilst maintaining the history of this very proud Australian Rules Football Club.

At a special meeting held last night (Wednesday October 29) at the South Croydon FC, EFL clubs agreed to affiliate the Canterbury FC into the EFL competition in division four. In their first year Canterbury would field senior and reserve sides, whilst in year two of their plan Canterbury proposes that they field an under 18 team as well.

Bringing EFL football to the Boroondara area has proved to be amazingly successful with crowds and interest having increased since 2006 when the Balwyn Football Club, Canterbury’s nearest neighbor, made the move back to the east.

Canterbury FC is over 125 years old and has previously played in the Box Hill Reporter League and Eastern Suburban Football League, playing against eastern clubs like Mitcham, East Burwood and Surrey Hills.

The club has produced players such as Bob Pratt, Peter Curran and more recently Luke Penny. They have to move ahead and like the strongest EFL clubs logically underpin their club with a strong junior foundation. In 2008 Canterbury fielded teams from under 9’s up to under 15’s, and want their junior players to graduate to senior football played in the eastern suburbs.

In 2009 Canterbury, Balwyn, and Hawthorn Citizens FC’s are merging their intermediate age groups to develop a new club , “ The Boroondara Hawks” , that will provide more opportunities for teenagers to play the game in their local area. Ensuring the senior clubs are part of the EFL is crucial to the success of that program.

Canterbury FC has kept the Southern Football League abreast of their application to join the EFL, so they can make whatever adjustments that are needed in their competition.

Still won't happen you goth...

Wayne Holdsworth (SFL CEO I believe) came from the AFL administration before running the SFL, and he has a debargo on all clubs trying to leave SFL for the next 2 or 3 years..

so why don't you go bite off a bat's head and pray to your demon lord...

Here Here..

No word either from AFL vic more importantly..

I may be wrong, but wouldn't consider it a done deal yet.

I do know of another team that applied to leave SFL a few years back (were accepted by the ammatuers) but in the end was rejected by higher powers..Doesn't really matter as they have now folded.

As if the EFL would say no anyway!!

I, sir am not a homosexual..

I don't believe I've mentioned homosexuality at all in any of my posts..
yet you seem quite adamant on that topic..
and you don't deny being a goth.. maybe you are a fudge packing goth..

how sad.......

but anyway, I don't think Canterbury will be playing in the EFL in 2009.. maybe 2010 if they take the SFL to court and they can't be bothered with legal and financial battles...

If the SFL don't let them go they will simply close their doors and open up again in the efl under a slightly different name. The league wont make them stay.

I'll put this to bed now, the CEO told me if the members have voted to leave then he won't stand in the way.

Ok you guys FACT time the SflL can only run a 2 div comp next year they would have 2 fixtures in place in case some of these clubs fall over. many SFl clubs are in trouble from all divisions the league also are aware that the Port colts are intrested in joining
Teams that will struggle next year are Dandy, sandown, cerbrus, lyndale,
east brighton, sth yarra, m kangaroos, Mt waverley, that i no of as Fact!! Canterbury want out and Stpauls are looking at other options. So 2 strong divisions are better than 3 struggling come on SFL show some ticker and
do whats right for a Dying league.2 divisions for 2009

Who on earth are you to assume which teams will struggle next year?

He is basing that on the teams that are on a payment scheme with the SFL as far as i can assume with the teams he has mentioned. I would think that a few of those teams you have mentioned are clawing there way back financially and will be ok. 10 teams in divvy 1 8 in divvy 2 and 8 in divvy 3 would be the best bet. I think the league needs to atract a few more teams preety quick though to sure up the competition.
