Ryan Griffen plays his 250th game on Saturday.

Taken at Pick 3 in the 2004 draft by the Bulldogs. He went in to play 202 games for them as a hard running wingman initially then moving inside the midfield around 2008. Captain from 2013 until he was traded to the Giants at the end of 2014.

He's gone on to play 47 games over 21/2 seasons with us in roles including half back and defensive inside mid. This year like a lot of aging mids he's began playing forward a lot and is doing great there.

I think it's time to celebrate a great career, but as he seems physically healthier each year he's with us, last years injuries not withstanding. At 31 he's a real chance of getting to 300 in my view if his body holds up.

One thing that's confused me is in his time with us as an ex captain he seems ti have shown little interest in leadership. It may simply be we had captains in place. Possibly also having tried it he didn't want to continue, and had to move to a new club for a fresh start. Honestly not sure.

Given he has played for multiple clubs I am posting this on the MB

Didn't he not want to be captain of the dogs in the first place? Or am I imagining that?

Making him captain was a major reason he left the Bulldogs. Saying he didn't want to be captain was too hard for him, so did a runner instead.

I dont know. Ever tried to move into a more junior role at work? I have and it's very hard to do.

Possibly
I didn't follow his career at the Dogs closely.
Never wanted a leadership role which was obvious to everyone, but McCartney basically forced the captaincy on him since he was our best player.
Could have said no obviously, but that's not really the kind of guy Griff is. We were in a shit spot and i'm sure he wanted to help. He's just not really a captain kind of guy.

That makes sense

He left dogs in strange circumstances. Maybe he was never meant to be a skipper. His form last week was very good and I hope he and Giants maintain form rest of year to add further interest to finals.

2014

The antithesis of Nathan Jones, who played his 250th last week. Very talented but questions over his work rate, Jones not always seen as so talented, but has extracted every bit out of himself. Fair play to Griff for a good career, you need to be a great to hit 250 games, but I get the sense that he doesn't really like footy and as such doesn't put in 100%. I mean, its fine. Its a paycheque job to many, but his time at GWS has been underwhelming.

Ryan Griffen, the guy most grateful for Richard Tambling.
Yes! The tiger obsession submerged any Griffen vs Buddy debate, but a cut above Tambo on field of course.

Off field, character-wise, he disgusted me more than Scully. The hole he left the dogs in for $$$$ was really deep.

So happy the dogs went on to win and Griffen will never taste glory.

someone post woody Harrelson drying his eyes with cash gif, sums up Griff perfectly for mine.
