Will you keep Tom Boyd your thoughts ?

Indeed. And, under contract as he is, I'll remember that the best targets to tap up are the ones either not under contract, or who are being forced out of the team for some reason, such as the team running out of cap room due to signing other players, or the coach not liking them, or the team they play for going into a rebuild based around youth.

Mr Griffen apparently had issues with the man who used to coach the Doggies, who appear to be going into a rebuild based around youth.

Which of those count for young Mr Boyd ?

Boyd not popular with the lads down at GWS i hear. should get rid of him now and trade for saints pick 1, get petracca and Griff. thats a very good outcome wouldn't you say?

Or keep him, we get 4 and 7, and load up with the draft... and come back next year with the ability to use 105% of our cap....someone will bite :D

If Boyd is heading elsewhere in the soonish future, then it'd be entirely understandable if more ruthless types than myself would think it'd be a good plan if pick 4 was reserved for, say, Wright.

In fact, it's entirely possible that - given the Bulldogs new list manager seems to be demanding a straight swap - negotiations break down entirely.

Perhaps, but not likely for mine.

History tells me when the dogs say "Griffen will not be traded", GWS says "Boyd will not be traded" we have all watched enough footy to know they are 99% golden signs that they will indeed be traded. A seagull from seaford wanders over with one leg and suddenly takes interest in the goings on.

I think it will be griff and 6, for boyd and 7 (maybe 19 if we are simply happy to have boyd) The Seagull...sorry the Saints get 4 and 6 (maybe some fluff, maybe even 7) and you get pick 1. everyone walks away happy, and everyone saves face by announcing they were genius at the table and got the desired result.

For GWS to have 7, they cant have 19, as thats part of the Carlton trade.

So that hs been finalised? oops i thought you guys were still to and fro, since nothing has happened...then again this may have distracted you a little. either way, 4 and 7 plus fluff should get you 1 no drama.

Breaking this down the worst thing GWS can do is pick up Griffen. A better result would simply end up with draft picks.

GWS can cash up and take Bontempelli of the Bulldogs hands with a massive bid for example! Alternatively, GWS could trade Boyd for Bontempelli but we know Bulldogs will not do that!

Takes 2 to tango but the lopsided component hidden in the proposed trades is the overvaluation of Griffen. This is highlighted by the comparative money been thrown at Boyd. It means one thing! GWS, until the nucleus is forged must stay the course with youth even if you trade the likes of Boyd to Saints for Petracca and whatever else.

Well just on the golden signs ... its interesting we havent heard a peep out of the player or his manager, and the interest from St Kilda seems to be in Boyd himself, not in doing a fundamentally disconnected side trade for pick one.

i tend to disagree. Griffen is all australian and two time best and fairest. He would be in the top 10 mids in the comp. He will contribute significantly both on and off the field with the way he plays and trains for success. More draft picks means more years of development and i think we are at a point with the guts of this team turning 22 this coming season to back what we came here with. Now they are still young and the experience of a griffen would be invaluable to their development IMO.

GO for it, you will instantly be both the pariah of the afl, and the death of equalisation in one hit...you honestly think after we lose a future captain Ward, Harbrow and now our current captain griffen, going after Bonti would be a smart thing? Your angry and emotional because you just got punched back by the little guy, how dare they, don't the bulldogs know they are the weak and we are the mighty corporate. Maybe you need to step back and ask yourself why it is you are so angry by us going for Boyd, rather then taking on an entitled Dr evil approach.

And perhaps you are right, the best thing from here would have been not going after Griffen in the first place if you are going to let the deal fail, you will make out like fools. You made promises you couldn't keep, and left him high and dry when it got a little heated. Any Future league ellite considering naming GWS as his destination will take note on how you treated Griffen. This is why you can't back out, you need the deal to get done for your own credability.

Or they will take note in how unreasonable the dogs are to trade with.

Yeah, still waiting for the evidence that we actually went after him. Seriously, with a bunch of your senior players wanting out, the more plausible theory is the players went looking for other clubs.

Every Bulldogs supporter keeps saying this, just because you say it doesn't make it true.

You guys did ask around for Griffen in a direct trade for Boyd (Pick 1) last year. You just didn't ask around when you heard he was disgruntled a couple of months ago. This wasn't a spurr of the moment decision to get him and why would he nominate GWS directly when he could have fielded offers from his home state or somewhere else. 17 other teams would have looked at him and you would think someone like the Gold coast would be desperate for someone of his talents.

Last year?! Far out, is that the best you can come up with!? Hardly relevant! There were probably a whole bunch of other players we offered pick #1 for from other clubs. You don't see them quitting their club to join us! Just because a club says their interested in a player hardly qualifies as going after him and making promises.

Plenty of reasons why Griffen wants to come to GWS. Let me articulate them

1) Wants to escape the fishbowl that is Melbourne
2) Mates with Callan Ward and Dylan Addison who are up here
3) Leon Cameron is the coach

Let's be real about this. He wanted out from your club. GWS was an ideal option for him. There is no evidence that we approached him!

....Unlike you guys who deliberately targeted one of our players one year into his contract - That is the only FACT here.

We asked last year during a trade period. He has then come back and asked us to deal this year. Whats so hard or wrong about that?

Purely posturing. All clubs do it. We'd definitely add something if it can get a deal done.

Or they will take note in how unreasonable the dogs are to trade with.
We had the Lake deal done on day 1 of trade week last year. Win/win for both clubs.
