Ryder--->Ruck?

Lol are you serious? Yes his around the ground work is poor but IIRC he had a huge hit out to advantage ratio whenever he went into the ruck.

I agree that we should let him develop as a key back for now, when our backline is developed then we might be able to try him out in other areas...

And to say that he won't make it on the basis of 15min game time for one or two games is really just...astonishing, anyone with Ryder's natural talent given a decent exposure should be able to at least make a fist of it.

Knights is grooming Ryder to be one of the 2 or 3 tall backs.

Knights is grooming Gumbleton and Neagle to be our key forwards.

Knights may switch them around occasionally during games but THEIR LONG TERM FUTURE IS SET IF THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH.

EFC has made a point of setting up the spine, and it is silly how many posters want to shift players around eg; Ryder as a ruckman/forward.

We need to back the coaching department to structure the team to be successful.

Versatility isn't and shouldn't be viewed as a negative

Why is it "ok" for Reimers, Houli and Myers to play HB, HF and Wing; I would be surprised if Paddy is exclusively used as a key back for his entire career, I'd imagine that even Gumbleton and Neagle will also spend sometime in defence

Ryder wont play to much ruck at the moment Due to body strength i would think and laycock hille and bellchambers needing time. Wouldnt mind him playing mostly CHB - Wing this year (test him out)

However i found myself this season wanting him to go up forward in some games when lucas was not playing and lloyd was in a slump to provide an option. Which he did. So basically move him around alot but keep him to where he has shown his colors in chb.

He could move to wing when hurley and pears play so fletch plays 3rd tall and we can test hurely like we did fletch at the start of his career.

basically stick to chb with testing out on wing, chf mostly.
just a thought

Ryder has a tremendous vertical leap and that's about it in terms of his rucking skills. As for the debate over whether he should play forward or back, I sincerely hope the coaching staff find a permanent spot for him and not mess him around like Sheedy did with certain players.

Just thought I would bump this thread. I am a genius, am I not?

Funny to see a few posters voting "yes" now that this thread has been bumped. Ant555 has been labelling Ryder a Ruck/Forward for a long while, IIRC.

Certainly have :D
The only reason i am not in this thread making a comment as i was still in hospital after my last operation when this thread was started :)

Ha nah wasn't aimed at anybody in particular. Just noticed that the votes went from 10 to 13 since the 'bump'.
10-18 now Whomb.

kudos Ant btw

I may only be a neutral but he looks very natural playing in the ruck. I think he should settle there while the likes of Tayte Pears/Mick Hurley/Mick Still/Daniher alternate as KP backmen.

Still will play as a forward, Hooker will more likely to play defence

My Feelings towards this is that next year Hille and Ryder should swap between forward and ruck every quarter. Both are massive accurate kicks and the opponent wouldn't have time to get used to Hille or Ryder. Our backline is full as far as I am concerned, Paddy would wasting his and someone elses talent there. Hurley, Pears and Hooker down back seems good to me.

He was always going to be developed into a ruckman. Injuries/a lack of option were forcing him to play defence, a role he is not naturally suited too. He's an attacker not a negator. Always has been always will be. The rating he got as a KPB is a testament to his abilities.
