Sack Laidley.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not in the Sack Laidley camp, but...

OK sure... just as soon as you tell me who the last coach that got sacked for losing 1 nab cup game and only winning 1 out of 2 Nab challenge games.

Schimmelbush? :p

It might seem like it, with all the arguing to and fro, but I doubt anyone will take joy in seeing us failing to perform onfield. However, I do hear some saying that this may, in the long run, be a better outcome than a middling performance that secures Laidley a job for another few years (if you don't believe he is the best coach for us).

Is anyone saying "I hope we're doing badly enough to get Laidley sacked."? (I think some just want him sacked, however/whenever). Football fans can be like that. We all have the passion for success; we just have different views on what's happened under Laidley so far, and on what's needed into the future. And isn't the sharing of different opinions what this forum's about? (Abuse factor aside).

We will do our board a grave disservice if we assume that a middling performance will get the coach a new contract. I'm not accusing you of that by the way kimbo.

Our coach for next year will be the man the board judges will win our next flag.

I just don't know who that man is yet, but I'm watching closely.

Does anybody truly know?

Well I certainly do not know, but I will start the ball rolling and assuming it is not Laidley, if the Cats do not win the Flag this year, Bomber Thomson may get the flick and he would be a handy coach.

For all the peanuts saying don't get too excited its only preseason, I am not calling for his head bc of our 3 preseason games. I have had the same feeling about him since 2005

To all the pro Laidley posters...

*What has he achieved to date?

*Is the result of his extension still in doubt in your minds pending our performances this year?

*If so has his previous 6 years at the helm not been sufficient time for you to be able to make your minds up whether or not you believe he will be our next premiership coach?

*How long should he be extended for?

It is only March. A game hasn't even been played and we have people asking for the coach to be sacked.

Laidley is under contract and I hope that he coaches the year out. If the board believes that he is the best man for the job after this season then I will support that decision.

Sacking the coach is not the answer.

Hopefully we don't see a post on this subject after every loss this year.

Have you posted about anything other than the coach in the last few weeks? You seem rather obsessed.

BTW, as stated previously I think the notion of a "Sack Laidley" thread is a ridiculous one at this stage of the year.

I just thought as Mr. Reliable has asked the question we may as well change the thrust of what is essentially a pointless thread before the season has even started.

I think jb18 must be Darren Crocker

haha maybe I am... maybe im sick of sub par performances year in year out only to be ostracized for posting anything against Laidley out of peoples blind love for the club and not hearing anything negative against any part of it.

No you cartainly aren't the only person who holds a negative view towards laids here, but you do come off as very desparately against him. Although I'm not against Laidley myself, but I do understand why some people are.
However, I would think the timing to criticise him is wrong. The best time to do it would be after last years final when there was cause for grief. Doing so now after a few practice matches just makes it seem like a personal vandetta against the man imo.

He was sacked after a series of losses, one of which was to a s**thouse adelaide side by over 100 pts. Twas a little different to the current situation

Gee that was funny, how long you been saving that one up for? Once upon a time you would have yellow carded someone for calling a new poster a jerk.

If you can't see that change is needed have a look in the mirror.

Hi and welcome to Bigfooty, sorry I didn't welcome you earlier.

I've come over all Gwyneth Paltrow that, in the few short weeks you've been here, you have become so interested in and well-informed about my brief and long ago stint as a moderator on this board. It's very gratifying you've even heard of me, as I haven't been posting here that much since you joined.

Another new year, another new crop of posters keen to share their ideas and join us in celebrating being part of the greatest club of all. Great to have you here.

And I probably do need a haircut, so thanks for that suggestion too.

Laidley will coach to the end of this season, as he should, when rational ealuation can be made.
I wil be interested to see the developments in the following areas during the season on which to evaluate the performance of the coaching panel:
Ball movement: appear to be stymied trying to work through defensive zones. Go wide and short as a defensive move rather than finding space from which to counter attack. Will be helped by Pratt rejoining the back half and Wells linking on the win
Ball disposal: So far (and in recent years) the disposal by foot has been lacking in consistent high quality. Trying to work through zones requires precision disposal. Hopefully we can find players who can execute well
Positioning While it is good to be flexible, it appears that we are still trying to determine which players are best suited to which position (Petrie: CHF/CHB/ruck; Harding: HBF/W/On ball; Watt has been playing as a mobile running forward in pre-season; Firrito is being played again in the middle after seasons as a key defender; Hansen: ?). It is hoped that there is a plan with these players that all understand and support.
Developing youngsters: I'm no where near as critical of laidley on this issue than some others. I think he has tried a number of youngsters at times but with mixed results (Swallow fell away 08; Hansen continues to be slower than we would like in his development; the absence of Smith has hurt). It is a little hard to be critical of the playing group as a whole given where they have finished in the last few seasons, but the Finals performances have indicated a big gap between us and the best and thus some have called for greater change to try to bridge that gap.

I think Laidley will be under pressure to get results this year (as he should). The new off field team appear not to be prepared to make excuses or cop poor performances. I look forward to seeing the team in all of the areas I have some concerns about.

I think you have this all wrong dude. It's not that everyone but you are pro-Laidley, its that no one sees the point in sacking the coach just before the season is about to start.

I think the best thing for everyone is for Dean to see out this season & then a decision be made on his future at our club. We won't achieve anything by jumping the gun now.

I hope none of the players or coaches read this forum. I'm sure they'd be overwhelmed by what a small and I mean small percentage of their supporters think of them.

We all have high expectations, but unless I've done the usual and, some might say predictably agreed to one more bottle of cabernet merlot, we've yet to have actually even hit the season.

If you don't like the man, then go and tell him. Corner him at Arden St. Or when he's getting into his car, whatever. Either way, some of you are driving respected long time posters away from the site. People who like serious football discussion that deal in things other than innuendo and shit canning.

All of us are critical, at times. But some of the posting here at times is resembling a 4am hangover and bucket call.

Get it together, folks.

I am not Laidley's greatest fan , fact !

But geeez i hope he proves me wrong , he is in a make or break season and rightly so .

The next four months will sort all of this out , lets see what happens .

And who invited you to be so measured, sane and sensible on this rant thread.
C'mon, redden up, get some foam on those lips.

Adelaide and Craig? Although they were hardly going to get worse after sacking Ayres.

Craig actually presided over a club record 141-point loss in his fourth game in charge, ending with a 4-5 record overall after taking the reins in R13, 2004 (Ayres was 4-9).

Obviously things changed once he got hold of them for his first full tradeweek/draft/preseason, but still, DR's point that the whole midseason change doesn't do much good isn't really disproven by Craig, unless an upgrade to 'subpar' from 'underachieving' is considered worth it.

Sitting on a yellow card and calling people "peanuts"... you really are tempting the good nature and forgiveness of the mighty TOD there aren't you scooter.

Factor in a PM I sent him on related matters, and it appears we may have (further) evidence of some pretty poor comprehension skills at play.

I'm not sure what part of "calm down" he's still grappling with, but a little bird tells me he has a week off to contemplate the concept in more depth.

Enjoy the peace and quiet.

I hear your frustration, Marky, and I can assure you that the situation is being dealt with. PM's have been sent to a few slightly over-zealous newcomers, a card or two given, and as a result we should all see a little less frothing at the mouth on this forum in the coming weeks.

Just to be clear, obviously I'm not so much concerned with the nature of the message a poster puts forward, but rather the manner in which that viewpoint is expressed. And at various times lately, the level of communication has been pretty ordinary.

Banter is one thing, but a lot of this recent crap has just been childish, headache-inducing drivel.

For the zillionth time, chill out, people. At least wait 'til the season starts before you have your first meltdown.

Now, back to sacking Laids.....
