Dreadful news - a jogger found a woman’s decaying body wrapped in plastic near the Sydney airport yesterday.

Maybe chuck it in the general crimes thread or we might get old mate murderystuff back claiming it was the nurse driving from Ballarat to Queensland via sydney

Hopefully that keeps murdery stuff at bay. Unless it’s like a weird satanic summons where if I say murdery stuff three times they appear. Crap, between my two posts I’ve said murdery stuff three times now and now I’ve said it three times in this post.

You have to say it 3 times in the mirror, then they'll appear on this thread

The rumours have been circulating for some time, we even had a new poster come in to the thread to make an account of what they saw one night ... and it was deleted.

It's okay to have a discussion about what the locals might be saying, provided it's not presented as a fact.

What did the user say they say one night??

Hmm not really. It's a smallish place and police down there have civ mates (like anywhere). The first time I heard about the main piece of evidence was a cop at a BBQ (my mates house) telling him about it.

There were other people at the BBQ who knew SM's family so he was careful not to say anything in front of those people.

My brother has had a few cops tell him things on Grindr of all places.

People close to the case are talking, I know that for a fact.

I’ve heard so many rumours from “cops” in Ballarat. All conflicting stories. Either cops are talking garbage or it’s a case of Chinese whispers… or people are making up shit and saying cops told them. This court date can’t come fast enough!!

This whole case seems to now border on rumour and innuendo. Which isn't evidence
Unless there is new evidence this should straight up be a not guilty or thrown out
Nearly a year now. There is either evidence or not.
Bring it to trial and test it. Ridiculous these delays

That's the thing - there is very little evidence in the public domain. Some phone pings and SM's iPhone in the lake.
Other than that, the police have outlined a specific location, time & date of the 'Murder' and that it was a deliberate act.

They haven't released anything that links POS to SM's death, but whatever they have was enough to at least convince the DPP they were confident enough to go ahead to trial.
They asked for an extension as the sheer amount of evidence will take months to process (is that because it's mostly circumstantial?)

The particulars about the iPhone being found in the dam was suspicious in itself. It was interesting that the police made sure that there was media footage from a helicopter showing them pretending to discover the phone on the bank of the dam, but later admitted that a sniffer dog had actually located it under the mud.
Not to mention the song & dance routine of them hugging each other in joy beside the dam.

I didn't know that!

Just another thought, I wonder If SM actually took her phone that day ? Was it a plant ? Did they find her phone earlier ? With all the latest Apple Watches including cellular and GPS, and she was going for a quick run, there would be no need to take her phone as well ?

I've thought about these possibilities. Initially I was doubting that she took her phone running with her in the first place based on her outfit that day. Where did she put it?

Her family had said that they knew something was wrong because she would never not answer her phone, but answering an Apple watch with cellular is still answering, as such.

Either way, the phone turning up in the dam is suspicious, or rather, the police finding the phone there is suspicious.
They'd performed meticulous searches of large areas of forest and found nothing at all (or, at least, didn't share anything with media).
Then they search this particular dam for no apparent reason and find the phone which was buried under the mud.
The police make sure that that the general public know all about the discovery of the phone, yet they share nothing else with media.

I don't imagine that POS told them anything about the phone since he's reportedly been uncooperative with police and is pleading his innocence. And they haven't arrested anyone else in connection with the murder.

I guess it's possible that POS threw a seemingly random phone out of a car window while he was driving with someone else, and that someone later mentioned it to police.
But if that was the case, I'm puzzled why the police made a point of sharing it with media when they haven't shared anything else.

TL/DR - aliens threw the phone in the dam and tipped off the police.
