i think we have to look at medhurst in relation to his swap for Taz. prob to early to say whether Taz will work out for us but i reckon Taz for Medhurst is a no brainer!

will be interesting to compare them once Taz runs out for us in the NAB cup semi final after we roll N. Melbourne this weekend.

Tarrant was brought in to ensure a bit more honesty in how a Coach lines his team up against our forwards, with Pav getting double teamed consistantly. He will reduce this and give us another serious option up forward.

Medhurst being relegated to the WAFL improved our team in the second half of the last season. His inability to play another role apart from specialist forward was damaging, and his work rate inconsistant at best.

Fringe player plus draft pick for starting 22 player. Still need to see how the mix works, but I am very happy with that.

Polly, his marking has not actually been a feature for a few seasons. Notably since we started to develop tall marking options, and requiring Medhurst to crumb. He is just not good enough to develop a forward line strategy around. Same with Williams at Hawthorn, and as it was with Ratera at WC. Both had more tricks and skill than Medhurst in my opinion, but small forwards as your leading goal scorers just doesn't seem to win the big ones.

His job the last couple of seasons was to play further up the ground to see if we could develop his game, from what I can remember he was taking marks up the ground it was what he was doing with the ball that was his undoing, beautiful field kick but took the wrong option more often than not.
I totally agree about building a forward line around small forwards, it hasn't been too successful, the bulldogs are probably the best at it but they've had to do it through necessity not choice.
I don't know if thats the Pies plan to build a forward line around him, I doubt it but thats not my concern, I just hope Medders goes alright and has a good career wherever hes at.:thumbsu:

I wish him luck with the Pies, but really, why do we moan about those who leave us because they have not performed for us over a period of time.
I thought he was unlucky at being traded but the deal is done and dusted, same as Polak, same as Clement, same as Holland same as Sinclair. All had ample opportunity to cement their places in our side but didn't fire a shot for long enough to warrant their retention on our list.Oh Browm Bandy just a couple more.
Don't perform send them elsewhere.

I think at times in the past we have given up on players too quickly. Holland, Sinclair, Brown and McPhee would have only been 20-21 when traded, a long way from reaching their full potential. Not that any of those trades have really hurt us or even that I regret them, but you have to expect a 21 year old to improve at his new club.

you are forgeting that the pies got pick 8 as well as medhurst the pick you got for polak so in effect you swapped polak and medhurst for tarrant

I'll go out on a limb and suggest in the context of things it will end up a good deal for both clubs.

2 talented players in need of fresh starts.

Good luck Meddy, I enjoyed watching you.
