Makes me a bit sad when i watch, he had so much talent, all wasted:( I was hoping to see him make a return to the Wafl this year, but he never did, still only 27.

Those last two goals were the best, was at both those games.

He was a freak who wasted his talents and was a perfect replacement for Phil Matera, could have been the difference in the 05 GF.

I lived in the same apartment complex as him for a couple of years just before he went off the rails, his missus was pretty crazy and I think alot of it stemmed from that relationship but am speculating a bit there.

We didn't draft too many indigenous players in the years after his exodus and reckon we may have got a little gun shy after using such a high pick on him.

Agreed about the whole 'gun shy' thing.

The scary thing about that video is that even though he's zooming past everybody else he still looks fat. One of those guys who would've been literally unstoppable had he had the brain of say a Robert Harvey.

Used to be my favourite player back in the day. Imagine how well the forward line would function with him (pre AWOL) in it right now.

Major case of what could've been. So many gun players still running around now that could've been taken instead of him, yet he definitely had the talent. 1 extra absolute gun experienced player could very well be the difference between last and finals contention.

Good Times! He was a smoothe mover. Not pissed off at all, just grateful for what he achieved. Sh!t happens to the best of us.

It's a highlights reel so that's what you get but the guy was sensational. Great kick off either foot and a fantastic goal sense. Now if we can only get someone with the same skills to fill that forward role.

Frustrating that he didn't take the option to "have your turtle & eat it to."

Play til you're 30, THEN go eat as much as you desire & bum about til you're an old man.

Was worth the high draft pick but couldn't keep it together. Tis only football though. Unfortunately for Sampi that was a major meal ticket wasted for him and he could have set him self up for another 20+ years.

Great video. Hoenstly though off topic. How can such a great video be made for sampi, who was largely a nobody, yet videos of players like kerr, cousins, lecras all have the same footage over and over?

Sampi was a great talent, loved watching him play it's a shame what happened ... perhaps a krakouer style recovery / redemption ;)

I still say more should've been done. Worsfold and Suma had their eyes only on the flag and just put the problem in the too hard basket.

I could imagine a Malthouse/Collingwood doing everything they could to get him back on track one day.

Easily a Top5 AFL player on talent alone.Really was keeping open a spot on the list too much to ask when you look at the duds we've carried in the last 5 years.

The absolute prototype of what we are looking for right now, either as a small forward or as a midfielder. It's easy to forget just how good and how classy he was, I do feel that as a club we let him down somewhat. I think if he was drafted now with our current support network, there would be very different outcomes.

amazing how many of his goals came at pivotal points in matches.

was my favourite eagles player, even when we had judd and cousins at the height of their powers. his demise was absolutely heartbreaking.

that goal at 3:50 still damn near brings a tear to my eye :(

Unfortunately the guy who made the video is not much of a "genious"
Yeh i had realised this after
I had hoped no one picked up on it

Because Sampi was one of my favourite players
