The South Australian National Football League has released the fixture for the 2013 Premiership Season, which will commence on Thursday March 28 before the Easter weekend. The season will kick off under lights with reigning premiers Norwood taking on traditional rivals Port Adelaide at Coopers Stadium while the Bloods will face the Bulldogs at City Mazda Stadium in Richmond. South Adelaide will once again put on a Good Friday twilight game at Hickinbotham Oval in Noarlunga where they will host the Tigers, finishing off with the Double Blues hosting the Eagles at Unley on the Saturday.
The 2013 season will see 18 night matches, with five venues hosting Friday or Saturday night contests. The Redlegs of course have been a force behind Friday Night Football and will have five games spread across the season. Elizabeth, Richmond, Noarlunga and Glenelg's night matches are within the first nine rounds of the season, but the final two rounds of the season are not locked in as of yet so there could be a possibility of a further three night games added to the calendar. With the advent of the new State League Representative program now in effect, the SANFL have been scheduled to face the allied Queensland & Northern Territory side that make up the North East Australian Football League's Northern Conference. The venue has not been finalised, the nine league clubs can put in a bid for the hosting rights to this game which will be played on Saturday May 11.
The 2013 Finals Series will take on a whole different look, the league is now investigating the nine SANFL grounds to determine their viability as finals venues. Instead of league finals starting at mid-day, the first three weeks of finals will take place on Saturdays and Sundays with afternoon starts. The SANFL is hoping to have bumper crowds at suburban venues for finals, a dream come true for many SA footy-heads that have been campaigning for years for this innovation. The Grand Final will of course be played at AAMI Stadium on Sunday October 6, in what will be the last game to be played on the ground before the move to Adelaide Oval in 2014.
