Geelong missed much easier shots than the Kangas did and also Geelong at least gave a yelp after half time. Kangas played terrible footy in the second half in 98 and were deservedly overrun by a brilliant Crows team.

Oh definately, and 62 inside 50's to 43 in favour of Geelong should amount to a 40-60 point victory - not a 26 point loss.

Oh Cats, how did you manage that one?????

This was my thinking also whilst I was watching the game. Geelong really had the chances, like NM in 1998, to put a big gap in the game in the 1st half but just couldn't. Then in the third quarter the hawks and crows blew the game apart, Dew's 10 minute period was sensational, a bit Jarmen like!!

just watching the game and seeing how many chances geelong blew. it reminded me of 1998 when north kicked 2-11 in the second qtr. hawthorn really outplayed them like adelaide did with north anfter half time and good on them
My thoughts exact i kept saying it during the course of the game that it was just like North's bad kicking

North actually kicked 2 goals 11 and a couple out on the full in the 2nd. I do not recall rushed being a factor.

North's shots were deadset easy, something like 90 odd possessions to 60 (which was massive for North) and even some of the inside 50 entries in that 2nd quarter missed guys on their own 30m dead in front.

Have to agree. Carey even missed a set shot from close in just like Mooney did IIRC (but it was up the other end of the ground?).

Carey`s attempted smartarse dribble sticks out in the memory.

It actually happens in a lot of Grand Finals,at all levels of the game.
It shows just how costly it can be,ironic that Buddy didn't really get a chance to hurt his own team??
Even in 1970 which is regarded as the most famous Grand final of all,the Pies blew it,not just by giving up a 44 point lead, but kicking really poorly as well, should have been 12-13 goals up.It bites you on the bum, because in every game of footy,no matter how one sided a team will get a ten minute window where they gain the ascendancy, and if they make every post a winner..bang it's game on again.
I reckon thats why that 6-8 goal lead in todays footy, say early second half when there is ample time left is a strangely uncomfortable feeling.

Hawthorn of 2008 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Melbourne of 2000

FWIW, if Essendon had played Carlton in the 2000 GF (ala Hawthorn V Geelong) they may well have lost that game with their inaccuracy
FWIW Melbourne actually beat Carlton in the Prelim and we smashed em in the 1st final. And we would of brained em in the Granny
