How many people think it's worth stumping up the extra 70k odd for selwood instead of bartel? I have had selwood in my team for 4 years running and he has never let me down. But With ablett gone im not sure how that could effect both players averages so im thinking bartel is the safer option because of the price difference. Is bartel completely over his elbow injury from last year?

I'm basically tossing up between
Selwood + Rioli
or
Bartel + Franklin

Yep. Liber has been head and shoulders above Wallis so far in the preseason. Wallis has the ability to rack em up but he's looked lost out there so far. Liberatore's been impressive so far and would be well in front of Wallis for a Round 1 spot.

And Beams may not end up being a high scorer but he should play a fair amount of games this year. He wasn't promoted to the senior list this year for nothing. Brisbane have holes in the midfield and he should fill one of 'em. Ball magnet in his junior years... then again, so was Mitch Banner and we know what a failure he was last year.

Black, Rich, Redden, Rockliff (Power, Banfield, Polec)

Can't find a hole there for Beams.

Regardless of what you think of the named players, or just follow the standard media opinion about Brisbane, there isn't a spot for him yet ( maybe forward for 8-10 games) and I don't think he is the right pick for 3rd MF bench spot this year.

Selwood will benefit from Ablett gone.

I'd find a way to get Selwood and Franklin. Show us your team and we'll find a way :thumbsu:

Cheers for the advice, i'm not a fan of posting up my team on bigfooty (i'm in a cash league and can have some lurkers around here)

But its quite easy to get Selwood and Franklin in by swapping Waite for Higgins (which help solves another problem).

Out of curiosity what makes you think Selwood will benefit without Ablett?

I wouldn't worry too much about what people see.

And I posted this earlier.

Also on the Selwood point.

In 2010 Ablett missed Round 6 - Selwood went on to score 140 SC points.

In 2009 Ablett missed Round 7 and 8 - Selwood scored 130 and 140 SC points respectively

He also missed Round 15 of that year - Selwood missed out on the points scoring only 80 SC

So when Ablett didn't play Selwood managed to amass 490 points in four games with an average of 122.5.

if Ablett played less last year, Selwood would have been a lock!!

looking for 3 rookie midfielders who are going to rack up the coin this season, other than Swallow, Krak, Harris and Mzungu
Perferablyy not gold coast as i have 2 already :)
I see alot of talk about Polec, is he worth it?
Gaff didnt seem to do a whole lot in his games?
I Smith? Atley? Hibbered?
any advice would be greatly appreciated :thumbsu:

Smith and Atly would be fine, I think smith is more attractive becuase he is MPP. I do think there are better options but it all comes down to how they fit into your teams structure and how many players from each team you want.

I like Polec as he looked very settle, and play with a good level of confidence which I didn't see in Gaff or Conca.
Dyson Heppel is a gun, and with the MPP option should slot into most teams. But if you already have Heppel in the backline Hibberd presents an option, is mature aged and ready to slot into the team, looks settled and should score well enough to warrant selection.
There has been a few wraps on Ben Jacobs from Port supporters so he may be one to watch. Clay Beams looks like a player who will see a few games, and his style of play suits super coach, not sure how many games he will play though.
Wallis and Libba from the doggies will also see plenty of games this season. Wallis is probably the better player overall, but Libba looked pretty good in the NAB cup, both present viable options. At the bottom of the list is Schnieder from Hawthorn will play a few games, but he is a bit down the pecking order so will only get consistant game time with injuries.

I went the Bartel + Franklin route myself. Selwood is a great choice if you can get the cash, but I opted to save a bit and boost up other options elsewhere.

Rohan Bewick has looked pretty good, the little i've seen of him. Is he a better option than Beams? Lions fans seem to rate Beams as more likely to get games, but Bewick's performed a little better in the nab, so maybe he's ahead now? They both look alright to me, but i only want one at the most.

After the preseason I'd rate Bewick ahead of Beams. Beams tore up our reserves last year, so many had high hopes for him this year. However he's started quite slowly through the preseason, whereas Bewick's looked quite solid. If you're looking for a Brisbane rookie, Bewick would be the way to go at the moment.

Have a look at the Rookie Must Have thread, and just take your pick based on the rest of your team (i.e. look for someone from a team that isnt represented that well in your line up)

Has anyone considered Simon Buckley from Collingwood... dual position player in a gun team and looks to finally have found his spot

I have no worries putting him in my dreamteam team. Disposal looks sloppy for SC.

Still, if he gets a game he'll average in the 60's easily enough. He might need a couple of more injuries to really cement a spot though.

G'day guys,

Midfield of:

pendlebury, a swallow, k jack, t cotchin, s hill, d swallow

bench: polec, harris, wallis

i see pendles, swallow and jack as locks for the year.......

however....i am contemplating the option of hill and cotchin trade for another premium and another rookie? thoughts? can just see them having good seasons and regretting this later though...

Perhaps look at Ed Curnow from Carlton. Will be upgraded from the rookie list and will most likely play round one. Strong body, ex VFL listed player.
Should increase in value by 150 k + in the early rounds.

Does anyone else think daisy can step it up this year and average 100+?
Also is cotchin worth taking a punt on.
Pendles, Daisy, Gibbs, Pav, Cotchin, Swallow, Harris, Hibbard, (undecided rookie)

He will but it plays havoc with your structure having two pies in the mids.

There are plenty of good options there, so it won't be hard to pick another one.

no it wont not if you have really good bench coverage like me

i have pendles and swan

and swallow and heppell on the bench to cover for them also petrie in the ruck and gamble in fwds as this year bench coverage is ridiculously important i.m.o

only reason they are bench players because i dont rate to many forward premiums this year as i only have 2

time will tell whether or not it pays off
