For consistency, run, skill= Pendlebury. For courage, hardness, and refusing to die and getting his team over the line when it counts(and yes, ducking as well)= Selwood.

When Pendlebury cuts my team to pieces I'm like yeh that shits dope. But when Selwood cuts my team to pieces I'm also like yeh that shits dope. Id say Pendles just. He got some serious spatial awareness like some kind of time/space traveller. Knows when to fake a handball to get an extra second to find a better option. Selwood doesnt have this kind of clairvoyance as much as Pendlebury. I will say this though, Selwood throws his body around like a 22 yr old Johnny knoxville on pingas.

I'll get on it then.

As long as you buy drinks if it doesn't pay.

to be honest, I didn't think he would poll as well as he did but he's made a point of kicking goals and has alerted similar intentions during training at the moment so I think we see another 30 or so goals kicked which can get the umps attention. Swan is a goal kicking mid and has been a very good vote getter across the board in recent years.

It will be interesting to see how Selwood copes with the new rule.

He'll be fine - the new rule is designed to stop players charging with their head. Selwood doesn't do this, he just exploits the tackler's technique by dropping a knee and slipping the tackle, making the opponent get him high. Love it or hate it there's very little that can be done about it. The new rule will stop the head-charges to some degree, but it won't stop Selwood's frees.

When Swan retires/slows down you can lock Pendlebury in for the next 3 brownlows

When Danger, Cotchin, Beams, Fyfe, Heppell etc are all hitting their peaks? Yeah, nah

Pendles is the alround better player. However he does not have that effect that Selwood has on games. The entire Geelong team is better because of Selwood. The other can't be said of Collingwood for Pendles.

Thus I vote Selwood. Would be top 3 players in the league right now.

I agree with none of this except Pendles being the better player.

For some reason the umpires gravitate towards Swan much more than they probably should.
Mustn't value disposal efficiency.

To be fair swan, although not a pretty kick, usually bombs it forward into space... Now whilst it may not look great... In 2010/2011 when we had a lot of pace we were always first to the ball which worked very, very well!

Pendles, although Duckwood is a fantastic footballer. Amazing vision, I have absolutely no evidence to back this up but also think for some reason that pendles keeps his feet a bit better.

Pendles.

Selwood can be taken out of the game with a tough tag.

Rd 3 vs Carlton- 13 Disposals
Rd 14 vs Fremantle- 14 Disposals and 1 tackle

Pendlebury didn't dip below 23 disposals all year. Plus, he has a Norm Smith. Selwood has played in 4 grand finals and has yet to win one. Selwood is a champion player, but you can't say he stands up in big games and wills his team over the line more than Pendlebury does, that's a myth.

They really shouldn't be compared. They're both completely different types of midfielders.

I think Pendlebury is a classy, clever and a very well balanced player. He's everything you could want in a pure midfielder. He is an exceptional finals performer too, consistently racking up crazy stats. However sometimes I think his statistics come off as more impressive than his actual performance. There were times last year where he would rank excellently on DT/SC in games I thought he was quite average. Watching a lot of Collingwood games, I've noticed that he's often caught feeding off the work of other Pies players...though I guess it is his brilliance that gets him into the right positions. In terms of importance to the Pies, he is obviously one of the most vital players, however I still think Swan is the one who really stands up under pressure consistently.

Selwood is a player whose game is centred around getting the ball regardless of the consequences. His game is painful, courageous, and messy but he always finishes brilliantly. In mid to late 2013, Selwood added another dimension to his game by playing frequent stints up forward to bring his annual goal tally to a career high 30 goals. He is a bit inconsistent in finals, ranging from below average performances to among the best on ground. I think that DT/SC points don't really measure his performance in a way that is fair to him, unlike Pendlebury, Ablett, etc. He is a unique player, and the fantasy footy sites are biased towards consistent, high-possession players who have a knack of owning the clearances for their team. Selwood evidently hasn't quite achieved that on a regular basis. However he gathers the hard ball, takes tricky marks, sets up a fair bulk of our goals and kicks a lot of goals which in my mind makes him of equal value if not as special as Pendlebury. I don't reckon that he's our most important midfielder. Possibly the most reliable, talented, brave, hard-working and probably the one with the highest ceiling, but we have a lot of other inside midfielders that do a terrific job of taking over when Selwood isn't playing.

Here's some footage of Pendlebury playing his usual outstanding brand of footy.

If I had a Selwood highlights video for his game against Sydney in round 4 2013, I don't think anyone would ever doubt his leadership and courage and his place in the comp as an elite. His game was certainly one of the best and most inspirational I've ever seen from a Cats player. After that game, I honestly thought for a while that Selwood was the best player in the competition. I guess these will have to do (two videos for Selwood because his highlight videos are short)

Being different types of the same position means there is not allowed to be comparisons?

Even in a who would you take thread?

They could be comparing a ruck with an undersized back pocket and people should be allowed to offer opinions on who they would take.
