The final round of the Sweet CA season sees Western Stars (WST) clinging to faint finals hopes as they take on a resurgent West Gate Trolls (WGT) at Bainlea Oval. The Trolls’ season officially ends here, but after a brutal 0-3 start, they’ll be eager to finish with back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, the Stars must win and hope for other results to fall in their favor to sneak into the Grand Final.

Western Stars (WST)​

After two straight losses, including a humbling 10-wicket defeat to Darkness Eternal last week, the Stars are in desperate need of a turnaround. Their bowlers were taken apart, conceding 541 in the first innings, while their second-innings batting collapse sealed their fate. However, they still have quality in key areas:

• DERRINALPHIL (6th highest run-scorer) – A consistent performer, including 80 last match.
• EltonJohnsWig (4th leading wicket-taker) – A proven wicket-taker who must step up.

The Stars need a collective performance, particularly with the ball, to have any chance of keeping their finals dream alive.

West Gate Trolls (WGT)​

The Trolls finally found their groove last week, demolishing Keptin Mafia by a staggering 312 runs. Sausageroll led the way with a century in the second innings, while tgrs produced his second five-wicket haul of the season.

• Sausageroll (5th highest run-scorer) – In form after a century last round.
• tgrs (10th in wickets but boasts the league’s best bowling average) – A dangerous strike bowler.

With no finals pressure, the Trolls have nothing to lose and will be looking to spoil the Stars’ campaign while proving they were better than their slow start suggested.

Key Match-Ups to Watch​

• DERRINALPHIL vs tgrs – Can the Stars’ batting leader withstand the league’s most efficient bowler?
• Sausageroll vs EltonJohnsWig – If WST lets sausageroll get set, it could be another long match for their bowlers.
• Stars’ Mentality – Do they have the belief to bounce back, or will last week’s thrashing linger?

Prediction​

The Trolls are coming off a massive win and look dangerous, while the Stars are reeling. If WST’s bowlers don’t show dramatic improvement, Trolls could make it two in a row and officially end the Stars’ season. However, with finals still technically on the line, expect the Stars to fight hard—whether that’s enough remains to be seen.
