GDFL Season 2012

Agree BBB, but i would go 1 further and say Banno have taken over Thomson as team most likely to topple BPH. @ $8 for the flag they are good value...

BHP are a little like Brisbane in their 3peat. Other teams know how they play but they're so good at it, they're hard to stop. Top 3 seem most likely to go all the way from an outsiders pov. Werribee and East just making up the numbers?

i think it will go

WEEK 1
Banno over thomson
WC over east

WEEK 2

BPH over Banno
WC over Thomson

WEEK 3

Banno over WC

GF
BPH over Banno.

people will shoot me for suggesting Thommo out in Straight sets, but i think the injuries they got a few weeks ago leaves key positions exposed. still think if they had everyone available they would be in the GF.

I agree Bizza.

Opinions on the Whitley Medal & Rookie of the year, anyone?
Werr- Jones
Thomp- Forbes ( big chance to win 114 goals)
East- Challis
G/West- Sims
BPH- Moreland (team mates will affect he's chances)
North-Fitzsimmons.
Banno-Furtulla - Rookie Tyquin played inter, Braumen (I think still under 18)Not sure how many games you must play to qualify
Winch- ?
Lions- Canavan
Corio- Jason Huhn
I think the grand final will be between BPH and Thomp. BPH to win 3 in a row Addie best on ground

Can Tyquin win the rookie of the year he played some senior footy last year?

if Thomson make the GF my tip is for BOG would be Symes, if Banno make it i think Holzfiend.

as for the whitley i think the top few teams will take votes off each other - BPH Thommo and Banno will provid.e the runners up, East Challis Murphy and werribee Phil Jones the Favorites for me.

Cam Addie was runner up in the BPH B&F, my apologies

in a lot of the games that he kicked bags, macloed was named best on....
Depends on how the umpires seen it too though, bizza - but Forbes and Macleod may steal votes off each other all year.

Will be a tough competition for the Whitley medal though, I'm interested to see how the vote count pans out.

Bell post hill definantly the team to beat again this year, solid across the board with minimal weak links. Will Thomson's loss of Marcus Forbes and bowles hurt them on a big ground? Bannockburn have been impressive of late but tackled a Luke forbe-less Thomson in what was a meaningless game few weeks back, not sure if they have had a test like the one they have set out this week, will know more satday. Not sure about anyone else but east have to be the danger team, didn't get blown out by bph in two games this year, the loss to Thomson must be concerning tho but with the main ingredients for success (power forward, strong midfield and can score quickly) surely couldn't count them out but either east or weribee to win it all they will have to beat every side in succession. Would not be easy, to me every team come into finals with a honest chance

i think bell post hill are a class above they have strength all over the ground.

sorry mate the lovell thing was really just a dig at him, i know he reads all my posts....

should be a cracker on sunday - both games. Good to see Bomber finally have his recruits all on the park together...

no excuses for anyone this year. BPH at full strength also, only Thomson can say injuries have upset their run to a flag.

Sorry bizz but i'd have to disagree with that.
East have been decimated by injuries all season with over 45 blokes playing ones which is ridiculous.
The only team that shouldn't have an excuse not to go 3 in a row is your mob.
Has bph had a significant injury in the last 3 years? They've had a ripping run.

Good luck to them though. Its wide open this year with all 5 teams a fighting chance, finals changes everything and home and away results mean nothing. Bph are certainly not as dominant as last two years which opens the door for someone to maybe steal a flag.

Can't wait to see some finals footy this weekend.

On yesterday's game I cant see thomson or banno beating bph. Banno had there chance's but just kept bombing the ball forward in the last quater. Aaron Eddy looked very sore all game but he kept them in it. I cant see him playing next week. I noticed butch shaw didnt play for banno he left a hole in there midfield as thomson smashed them out of the centre. Banno finals record over the last 5-6 years is pretty poor.
I am looking forward to todays game I think east will be to quick for W/C and will win a close game

Well caught the end of the reserves yestday and a late goal sunk weribee against bph, which just started the bad day for the centurions with both sides getting knocked out. East controlled the game for the majority without being able to really put scoreboard pressure by missing goals. Ricky otoole was left to roam around by himself without a man on him which I can't comprehend. And they were generally able to do what they like. Will be two interesting games this week. Thomson gettin over the top of bannockburn which sets up a game with bph, Brent mcloed and Luke Forbes playing out of the goal square. Not sure if they can afford to not have Brent in the guts. Going by yestday east still have a few passengers and I expect bannockburn to get the nod there

your right in the only long term injury i can think of is Tim Barton who has returned this year from a knee reco but this week was the first all year we have had everyone available. i think we have played 34 in the ones.

certainly a different East running around yesterday than from previous final series, i think i saw Ricky have a run and 4 bounces out of the backline at one stage... dont think Banno will give them that much freedom.

Bph major injuries in last 3 years. Justin tarr 2 years ago missed whole season (hip) Last season tim barton (knee reco) this year brent grgic (back) limited to 3 reserves games. steve overall has missed 7 games with hamstrings this year. shane lymer(ankle) has missed 6 games this year. Brad martin missed half of last year with body troubles. dylan witney broken jaw this year. sam talarico(achilles).has only played 3 games this year, bph havent had a full side in this year. full strength this week. week off for finishing on top a big part of that.

So before this year the list is tarr and Barton? That's a great run.
This year doesn't sound as good, although Martin was retired not body troubles, if anything that mid-season return helped him last year.

Overall and Lymer are important to you guys so they hurt but Whitney and talarico Ive never heard of.
If this week is the strongest you've fielded all year then our 2's will have their work cut out for them this week.

Sam Talarico captained Bell Park to a flag - not a bad resume.

your 2's always give us a bath, I dont think we have beaten you for a couple oof years... so i think we will start underdogs... Ranga may as well wear our jumper, we kick it to him 40 times a game.

My tips for last week went 0 for 2., so not even going to try this week!!

Hi all,

Forward planning for 2013 already...

The Whittlesea Football and Netball Club is looking for practice matches in March 2013 within the Football Geelong region for our seniors, reserves and thirds teams.

We have been in Division One of the Northern Football League for the past two seasons and have unfortunately been relegated, despite winning 3 matches, drawing 2 and pushing all 5 finalists to within a few kicks. Note that our thirds team are in the finals.

If you are interested in hosting us for the day please contact jarrad_carey@hotmail.com

Cheers,

JC

who votes for coach of the year anyway?
no offence to the banno boys, or Hyland from last year, but Grgic loses 5 games in three years, two flags with a good look at a third and named by the wider geelong sports fraternity as Best coach last year and doesnt get a look in at the comp level?
