Season 37, Round 20
We have made it. 118 days of match threads, spam, media, and drama. We opened season 37 back on February 4th and this Monday will be the last game of the home and away season.
Now, to stay in the hunt for the premiership, teams must Qooty to Survive.
A recap of the path to a premiership, so far.
EPISODE MBD
The East Side Phoenix underwent a major refresh during the off-season, dropping the Phoenix and returning to the ‘Hawks’ moniker. Their first target with a large recruiting budget was the long-term Demon, Tarkyn_24. It was a massive coup for the Hawks but the Demons were left needing to fill a Tarks sized hole and only had second year returnee Truetiger to shovel some dirt in.
The Demons knew they had to make up for a disappointing previous season and focussed the recruitment period on retention and culture. Claims were made by some young Demons players that Tarkyn_24 leaving improved both of these things.
Results wise season 37 has been up and down with key victories against the Swamprats, Hawks, and Bears being the highlights. The Mt. Buller based side are yet to win two games in a row though and sit eighth, and just four points away from missing finals.
Round twenty is a must win game against the Warriors to ensure that they lock in finals because if the Furies or Bears win, they’ll be tumbling out of contention.
EPISODE CIW
It’s been a turbulent season for the Coney Island Warriors after losing CursingFijian and The Half Back over the off-season and without any big names recruited their form has fallen further from their fifth place finish in season 36.
The season didn’t start how the Warriors would have wished with a loss to the Roys in the opening round but a glimmer of hope in the second round showed up after beating the Bombers by twenty points.
It was a false sense of security as their next three games against the Swamprats, Old Boys, and Demons were pencilled in as losses. The losses continued for the Warriors with only wins against the Bears, Gumbies, and Hawks to break it up.
A refresh was needed at the Warriors as they headed into the round 15 bye. They needed to change up their plan as they were sitting 12th and needed to win all their games to come back into finals contention.
Three goals and 113 dream team points from toxic got the Warriors across the line against the Swamprats by just three points, a week later it was a spoon-bowl against the Bombers that also ended in a victory to ensure that the finals race will go down to the wire.
The Warriors are still 12th and need a victory against the Demons, who are also battling for a finals spot, and also need the Hawks, Furies, and Bears to drop their game to make finals. The bye refresh and strategic changes could see Tonga Bob be named as one of the greatest masterminds or a loss here could put his job under pressure for season 38.
Captains, please be aware that the team sheet for your team must be submitted by 11:59 AWST on Thursday.
