Season 37, Round 20
We have made it. 118 days of match threads, spam, media, and drama. We opened season 37 back on February 4th and this Monday will be the last game of the home and away season.
Now, to stay in the hunt for the premiership, teams must Qooty to Survive.
A recap of the path to a premiership, so far.
EPISODE WON
Season 33. Captain Cadsky departs for the Royals.
Season 34. Co-Captain Brenton Davy departs for the Royals. damicky remains.
Season 35. Co-Captain Frothies Mcveigh departs for the Royals. damicky remains.
Three consecutive seasons of captain departures turned into four as damicky departed at the end of season 36 to join the Swamprats and the remaining co-captain, HARPSichord stepped away from the role. Four Seasons, Five Captains gone. Is the president to blame? Was the league pushing these captains out of this foundation club? Would the next captain stay long term?
AnUltimateRessie was appointed the captain on the eve of pre-season. The Wonders needed to face the departures of damicky, MayTheNorthBeWithU, Truetiger, and three retirements quickly. They knew a rebuild was on the horizon, the Wonders recruited five rookies; Pamcake1, BFew, BigChippa52, dino_67, and Oisin_the_Goat.
It seemed to be no damicky, no wonders as the clash for the damicky trophy ended with the Sin City Swamprats beating the Wonders by a comfortable 64-points. This loss would have been ego destroying if the Wonders didn’t bounce back the next week with a 98-point victory against the Roys.
The next seven games put the Wonders on track for a finals berth, losing just two of those games, but it was clear the Wonders had work to do with three of their wins being a margin of less than two goals. It was even more clear when they dropped three games in a row to drop out of the top four.
Three losses at home was not a good look but a late goal from Pamcake1 alongside 19 disposals locked in an seven point victory against the Hawks to get their season back on track.
After beating the Demons and the Bombers, it’s just a top four clash against the Old Boys left to round out their season. They’ll need to win this one to lock in a double chance finals opportunity and use the momentum to get an elusive premiership. A premiership that they haven’t won since season 21.

EPISODE OOB
Penalties derailed the Ophidian Old Boys chances of back-to-back premierships, instead cup-to-spoon was born. They had a point to prove heading into the pre-season, the point of cup-to-spoon-to-cup
Tigerturbulance continued their leadership into season 37 but the murmurs around the league were unkind regarding their recruitment tactics after choosing a tactic that was previously seen as off-limits. The captains around the league caught up after the list lodgement deadline. One captain allegedly said that if they chose to recruit rookies that they “would be in the shit, I will come after you”.
Turbo fired back “You’ve got a problem? Change your ****ing retention”
The Old Boys welcomed three rookies (JuddgementDay, tigerland_1720, myblueroan), two former rookies (DemurePrincess, King Tenz), and capped off their strong recruitment periods with huge signings of thewizardmelon, and Harvey Manfrenjensenden.
The Old Boys season was fired out of a cannon to start the season with Win after Win being simulated and included big wins against the Dragons (63 points) and Demons (48 points). Seven out of eight of their first games were wins and saw them flying at the top of the leader board.
What goes up, must come back down though and it all started with a loss against the Wonders, who they’ll face to finish the home and away season. Just two wins in their last seven games means that they’ve been knocked out of top position and are in terrible form. They’ll need to use their round twenty game to find some form and propel them into that cup-to-spoon-to-cup dream coming true.
Captains, please be aware that the team sheet for your team must be submitted by 11:59 AWST on Thursday.
