Which players would you select and why?

Assume it's a free grab and there's no cost associated with the selections.
You're picking for instant success but for as long as possible. So you could pick youngest available, but there's risk with unknown peak ability and lack of early success, or you could pick 27 year olds and get instant success but only for 4-5 years.

I think the balance is somewhere between 21 and 24.

For Fremantle

1. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (22) - Most exciting young forward in the game to complement Treacy. Curnow's payoff isn't big enough given his age. The payoff for Jamarra is huge. I didn't hesitate in selecting him. Provides X-factor.
2. Nick Daicos (21) - working along side Serong and Brayshaw will bring one of the most dominating midfields in the competition.
3. Mac Andrew (20) - One of the best up and coming defenders, tall and versatile. Tempted to take Andrews but age would restrict the payoff.
4. Zak Butters - At this point the midfield is an absolute machine and taggers would be absolutely useless. Midfield would be unstoppable.
5. Izak Rankine (24) - Get him into a really good environment and good team and he will tear up the opposition.

So who are you taking.

Carlton. We have inside mids. We have our key forwards. We have a young gun ruck. We have a gun FB. We need a quality small forward with pace. We need a second key defender who isn't slow. We need speed in the midfield and good ball use.

1. Nick Daicos - pace, endurance, smarts, versatility. Needed in our midfield

2. Chad Warner - lightning pace, x factor, game changer. Needed in our midfield and half forward

3. Noah Balta - great leap, good competitor, can play both ends

4. Harley Reid - because duh

5. Izak Rankine - desperately need a quick small forward and he's a wizard. I'd also play him on the wing at times.

Very hard to only choose 5 but I'll give it a go.

1. Jamara Ugle-Hagan - fills a key position that we lack he's young but already exceptional and his mobility is underrated. Jamara is also very close to having the best hands in the league and he's improving with leaps and bounds. Sky is the limit.

2. Serong - so many mids to pick from but his year has been phenomenal and he has so much upside, we are also lacking in midfield this year and him and Daicos would be an unstoppable duo.

3 Sam Taylor - right up there with the best defenders in the league and he is at a perfect age. Absolute shame he got injured but the form he showed prior overrides any injury concerns.

4. James Sicily - he's such a great natural footballer who has a commanding presence and can find so much of the ball and rebound off back, between Moore, Taylor and Sicily it would be a very hard backline to beat.

5. Keidean Coleman - his impact on the Brisbane lions run and carry off the backline cannot go unnoted as him being out left a huge hole in the team which took them a while to figure out a solution too. His proven he can play in the big games and his ball use is sublime. Would play a Nick Daicos off half back kinda role and with Sicily and co helping with the rebounds Keidean would become a even bigger weapon.

Very hard to decide tho as it's basically criminal leaving players like Walsh, Gulden and Sheezel miss out.

Reid to replace Dangerfield
N.Daicos to replace Duncan
Xerri to replace Stanley
Sheezel to improve the midfield
Taylor for defence

That'll do thanks.

There's no big gorilla forward that I'd throw the sink at, Geelong can persist with Neale.

1. Bont: Big-bodied goal-kicking mid, leadership skills

2. Caleb Serong: Same as Bont

3. Lachie Neale: Same as Bont

4. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan: Best young key forward in the game

5. Sam Taylor: Best full-back in the game.

Who do you pick for Bont and Neale if you're picking under 24?

I'd probably go with Gulden and N. Daicos if that were the case. LDU stiff to miss out given that he turned 25 a couple of months ago.
Daicos is an obvious choice if you're looking for someone to be a major playmaker. LDU is solid too. There's some concern about Gulden atm about him chasing stats.

1 - Josh Tracey

2 - Ugle Hagen

3 - Alex Pearce

4 - Tristen Xeri

5 - Charlie Cameron

1. Sam Taylor number 1 by a huge margin

2. Xerri

3. Rankine

4. Mac Andrew

5. Sheezel

Naicos stiff.

1. Sam Darcy
3rd tall to Charlie and McKay, will take the mantle as 1st in a year or two

2. Harley Reid
POD midfielder with speed and strength who can play inside and outside

3. Mac Andrew
Intercept defender who would hold out KPD stocks in fantastic shape

4. Nick Daicos
Brilliant inside/outside goalkicking mid that you can slot in on a flank, mid or even a wing

5. Harry Sheezel
Same type as Daicos, even more talented IMO and having a midfield of he, Reid and Daicos would be near unstoppable for the next decade
