went to the grange maggies game great game, matt payne played on permit dont agree with teams doing this, grange have alot of upside and trewella was amazing. both sides were missing some key personel with the maggies they have some great kids coming through but lacked experience down back would be genuine cotenders if ed macdonell returns? Some damn close games today - good comp currently.
have no dramas with it if you havent won a game and your desperate to win one? but basically on saturday grange coaching staff said to the rest of the grange squad they werent up to it when they gave payne his jumper.Yeah i think playing on permits should be for "development" reasons (such as a young fella from Div 2 or an 18s side coming in) or if a guy is being recruited there but can't get it organised in time (even then I'm not sure..). The AP comp is a great football comp bc it is not bastardised by clubs parachuting blokes in for various reasons. Not sure why a guy like Payne would be playing on permit??

Or they may have said enjoy playing with one of the best players in Queensland over the past 10 years, learn from it and watch how he goes about it. Grange were without many of their better players (Brittain x 2, Moir, Collins, Kettle), so it would help to have a replacement midfielder of Payne's calibre. My understanding is that Payne is mates with all of the Grange boys, trained with them occasionally in pre-season and was at a function at the club on Saturday night. A good opportunity to play with some mates and a great opportunity for the Grange players to run alongside and learn.
Doesn't make the outcome any different, but AFLQ clubs cannot get a permit for players outside of AFLQ competitions, so this will have had to be a clearance.
