Vic Metro, under first time skipper NaturalDisaster, will be looking to improve on their Series XIV and make their way through to the decider here in Series XV, having just missed out on qualifying for the final last series at the expense of their Vic Country brethren. The Metro side would have been patiently watching from the sidelines awaiting their chance this week, as they look to start of the series with a win and some much needed momentum off the bye.
While the West Aussies, having opened their account against long time #firsttofour rivals the Allies, would be feeling a sense of relief heading into round 2, with the monkey briefly off their back, and they’ll be looking to back it up against a strong Vic Metro side at the home of football on Saturday. Having broken an incredible 10 game losing streak, the challenge for the Black Swans is to translate their exciting new brand of qooty to the wide expanses of the ‘G.
Metro vice captain and former Bombers skipper KohPhi was unstoppable the last time these two sides met back in Series XIV, and he will be looking to pick up where he left off against WA on Saturday. Starring in a best on ground performance in the ruck, he racked up 34 touches to go with his mammoth 19 hitouts, with 7 tackles and a goal showing his all around game, as WA had no answers. Can history repeat this weekend?
Coming in off a heartbreaking Grand Final loss in S28, Proper Gander would be keener than most teammates to pull on the boots and launch her S29 pre season. Having recently won the Dees Best and Fairest award, the Deestroy Medal, splitting the honour with midfield teammate Callums_Guns, she enjoyed an individual season of brilliance at Mount Buller in S28. Pundits expect her to make a surprise move to Full Forward this weekend as the Metro side kick off their Series XV and if so, she will prove to be quite the handful for WA full back JoshWoodenSpoon if her recent ominous form is anything to go by.
The man loves the big stage, and there are none bigger than the MCG and State of Origin qooty. Having put in a dominant display in Series XIV the last time these two sides met, his 28 touches, 8 tackles and a goal combined with teammate KohPhi to power Vic Metro home in a thriller. 'Uncle Tony' will be looking to get his Series XV off to a perfect start, as he looks to link up once again with his Baghdad teammates and start off his beloved skipper’s inaugural SoO campaign at the helm with a win.
All eyes will be on the WA skipper this weekend, having led his new look side to a much needed first up victory, Vic Metro at the ‘G are a whole new challenge for a WA brigade with a newfound confidence in their game. Pundits and punters alike will also be keeping a close eye on the captain’s individual form, with Qooty’s all time leading goalkicker (daylight ahead of next best, Metro veteran okeydoke7) looking as though he was carrying a niggle in the close fought win, and is still looking to open his account in Series XV.
The Bombers S28 rookie and WA wingman ran rampant on the wings at Perth Stadium on Wednesday, collecting a match high 29 touches in his State of Origin debut, and supplying a makeshift WA forward line with plenty of the pill. Combining with Mount Buller star Van_Dyke, the pair will be hoping to stretch a Metro midfield who will need to keep tabs on both the WA speedsters if they are a chance to claim a first up win.
Relishing his newfound role in the ruck, the Hawks skipper was dominant on Wednesday, out pointing the tandem Allies ruck duo and amassing 27 disposals around the ground, to go with 2 crucial goals as he pushed forward to provide WA with a tall target as they looked to find the winning combination. Providing a star studded WA midfield with silver service, the Black Swans will be looking for him to repeat the performance come Saturday and give them first use.
