Does anyone have any footage of him playing VFL?

I've seen all the YouTube one's, but they're before he actually got to the club and had a limited amount of knowledge on how to kick the footy.

Do we have a VFL game on TV anytime soon?

You just missed it. We were on ABC on the weekend. Big Shae kicked a magnificent goal and backed it up with a set shot where he basically passed the man on the mark while lining up. it was pretty amusing. :)

ABC might do a podcast. Not sure.

I was really shocked at just how good his ruckwork was, against AFL listed players like Roughead too.

He won most of the ruck contests he was involved in, and capped it off with our solo highlight of the day when he recieved a handball from Dawes, baulked a player and goaled from 30 out with a bouncer off his wrong foot.

He is a freak physically, and there is every possibility he will be a listed AFL player by next year.

Still a long way off folks. I was impressed with some of his things he did. His baulk and left foot goal was a right ripper indeed .... but lining up for the next goal it was obvious he was too close. Very funny at the time poor guy.

His leap for a tap is technically perfect ... ie. getting the most out of it by swinging his arms for a vertical leap etc ... very BBALL like. BUt against a ruck opposition where the knees are aiming your body he has a lot to learn and he'll learn this by copping his more than fair share.

But the fella is learning the game and going well. Maxwell needs to be in his ear about 1%ers especially .... lots to learn.

any dumber and lazier then most second ruckman? Hardly, and he is still raw.

Is athletically as good probably better then setanta at carlton, seems to be learning quicker then he did too (i was at some of setants early matches he was dreadful).

No doubt shae will be nearing AFL by mid next year, at the very least as an athletic second ruck

Awww no way, I checked the online tv guide and everything to see if we were being televised, it said that no VFL game was being televised that weekend, I thought it was a bit odd.

Spewing now, if anyone has the footage would they be able to upload it and give me a link please. Footage of his goal I mean. Dying to see it.

Wss a good first up hit out. Did some really good things. Took some nice grabs. Clean hands off the ground. The sidestep was silky. Like a mid, not a lumbering ruckman. Made some silly errors as mentioned and gave away a few frees. A holding the man when he didn't seem to realise the ball had gone and a high tackle (hard not to when you are 6'200). Will learn little things like players that are on the mark often back off a few paces then come at you as you run in, etc. Will be better for the run but plenty to like. I'm excited.

You can tell he's a basketballer, he is so agile for his size and (although i didnt see much of it on the weekend), will find a target by hand in very heavy traffic.
I was also pleased with his rucking, better than most beginners.

Still looks a bit uncomfortable with the shape of the ball but, once again being a basketballer, his hands will be golden soon.

I'm very impressed. His agility is great and if these reports on his rucking are true then even better. As long as his general skills/awarness keep improving steadily I would be happy for him to get a permanent spot on the list when his rookie contract runs out. I'm not going to start predicting he will get a game next year or anything, but think we should aim to get him a game in 2012. I mean he already looks better than David Fanning or Brent Hall! And I have serious doubts on Fraser lasting more than a couple of years, 3 at the most after this year, at which point Jolly will also be 30+. Shae could be anything, or nothing, but I feel we have the financial capacity and facilities to accommodate him for as long as we feel he is improving.

I was told by the OP that there was no game on TV this week!

I really wanted to see big Shae play, i have not seen him in action yet.
Does anyone know when another one of your games is being televised?

What I think the coaches would be particularly impressed with was how he saw this develop. If you watch, he attempts to lay the tackle on the defender(I think that qualifies as a 1%er ;-) ), and his pressure gave JA the opportunity to lay that huge bump that caused the turnover. Right as the camera pans away from his tackle to follow the handball you see Shae break toward the forward line. In that split second he knew it would turn over and he knew he would be on. Very impressive.

I like what I see. He is moving better than any ruckman we currently have - he is quick! Needs to do a lot of work on his ball skills and that will hold him back for quite a while. If he improves in this area he will have an impact next year. I can see him being a key forward with that sort of agility & lateral movement.

Yeah he was pretty good for his first real hitout. His rucking was what impressed me. Look forward to seeing him a couple more times.

I was just having a look at the VFL fixture on the Pies website. Any game that is at 1.00pm on a Saturday is probably a good guide to go by.

Coll vs Geel 8th May
Frankston Vs Coll 15th May
Coll vs Nth Ball 03rd Jul
Geel vs Coll 17th Jul
Coll vs Gold Coast 21st Aug

Not sure if they can change but the footy on the ABC is always at 1.00pm. There might be other teams playing so I am not 100% sure if these are all telecast.

was the most impressive thing of that play wasnt it , the goal was great , but the way he read the play was awesome. Bit of basketball in it tbh, knew the pressure was there and was more than likely going to be a turnover so he turned the other way asap to take advantage.

Reading the play would probably be the hardest thing for a new comer to afl , i couldnt even see half the rucks in the afl already doing what he did in that clip.

i know its a bit early too get excited , but the signs look good.
