Should Anthony Rocca play this week?

I think Mick will do it. Will it be good, will it be bad, time will tell. I think whatever happens, you have to put a good defender on Rocca, so it could be a nice decoy for Jack. The sheer size of Ant and his 'gargoylish attack on the footy' means he has a bit of x factor about him.

Unfortunately Rocca has no place anymore in the current team. Wish him all the best but at one point the club has to make the hard call.

Should at least get a send -off type game.

Bring him back against the swans, if he is unfit and exposed so be it, but he gets a send off game and the opportunity to have one more big game at the G. The pies still should be able to roll the swans with Ant not contributing.

Or he could come in, bust a few packs, kick a few goals and give us another real target up forward, no offence to Dawes but he aint imposing himself at the moment.

We dont lose anything, and if he aint up to it, Dawes can be brought back the following week after hopefully dominating at VFL level.

i think we should play Rocca and rest J.A (Jack Anthony) for this week.... if Rocca performs well against the Swanies then we can look at playing him again. If he doesnt we can always place him back with the 2nds. Im a huge Jack fan but i think the kid needs a week off, we need him to catch fire against the bulldogs!!!

PS: i think Daws plays awesome with J.A and i dont want to see Daws get dropped!!

It;s Collingwood supporters like you guys that are the problem.

Rocca HAS to play.

ONLY 2 goals in the reserves? Let me clear it up for some of you.

He kicked 2.6 in gale force winds and pelting rain. The point is, he took 8 shots on goal. How he kicked is irrelevant.

Rocca assuming he's FIT, which he appears to be, would be the difference between a flag, and being the bridesmaid once again.

Also, he owes us after costing us the flag in 03.

Rocca must be given the opportunity to prove his worth.

A fit and firing Rocca is unstoppable.

He is looking the leanest I've ever seen him.

We have 2 games in which we can determine if he is an asset or a liability come finals.

IMO he will prove to be a MAJOR asset and his inclusion warranted.

GO PIES!

This is all I've ever said.

FIT.

If he's not fit, then obviously he shouldn't be in, but if he's fit, he doesn't even HAVE to fire. He just has to be there. As we saw in the 03 Qualifying final...

Mal Michael had beaten Rocca pretty much all night, but when the game was in the balance, who took a great pressure mark and kicked the goal that put us in front?

Rocca.

THAT'S why we need a fit Rocca in the side. We just look more dangerous when he's there, even if he's not firing. Just needs ot be fit. He;s dropped some weight to help his feet and looks in good nick. GET HIM THE F**K IN THERE.

If he doesn't perform at ALL against Sydney and the Bulldogs then we don't lose much, we'll still get 3rd on the ladder, and we can leave him out for the finals and the Bulldogs can be his farewell match.

At best, he plays well, and wins us a flag that he owes us.

Jack has just come into a bit of form. I don't think resting him would be a great idea.

I don't think we need to rest players because it's basically flirting with form.

We have high rotations, plenty of easy sessions on the track.

Rest them from training if they need a rest.

I think Rocca's AFL Playing Career in over! My concern with pebbles is that he could be a huge liability for us and since we have won 11 out of our past 12 there is really no need to bring him in the side!

I can see your point! Jack got Killed by Lake but Jack tired to out muscle Lake all night and that will not get the job done against probably the best full back in league atm. Jack must lead to the ball if he has any chance in beating Lake. If Jack has a big night against the doggies then we will win for sure

We don't need Rocca to take 10 marks and kick 5 goals. As long as he takes the opportunities that are there (as in, converting goals when he has the chance, having clean hands in a marking contest, etc.), then that should be enough. He'll at least draw the opposition's biggest defender, which is good for the likes of John Anthony and Travis Cloke, because they'll have someone smaller on them. It's not a problem for Cloke (as he can go body-to-body with any defender in the league really), but it'll help JA, as he's not really a 'power forward' at this point - a point well illustrated when he was out-pointed for much of the Bulldogs game by Brian Lake, who has a size advantage on JA of few centimetres and about 10kg, which is an advantage that would be nullified by Rocca.

Yeah it will be v interesting to see how ant goes vs Lake - everyone is saying Lake would run off him all the time and create attacking drive for the dogs, but most of Lake's game seems to be based on taking lots of overhead marks from what I've seen. I really don't see DAwes being anywhere near as good as Rocca at ground level at this stage of his career, people are obsessed with Rocca's age vs Dawes' youth.

The only advantage of Dawes is he's more versatile since he can relieve in the ruck, but he doesn't win much ball up field (or in the forward line for that matter) at all. Oh and that supposedly he can apply more defensive pressure, but let's see how Rocca goes with that. Rocca applies his own type of defensive pressure, also known as "terror"!

Yes Dawes shows a lot of potential, but unless he improves enormously in 3 weeks he's still nowhere near the player Rocca is, especially in finals. good depth at this stage.

If they pick Rocca they might want to experiment with dropping L Brown to see if his hardness is still needed for the side - esp with Big Bad Barry out. If able to drop Brown, that would compensate for introducing another relatively slow player. I do wish I could have seen Brown trying the same tactics on BBB that he used on Johnno Brown, might have caused a flashback to the 70's.

Just here to re-iterate the fact that Anthony Rocca is REQUIRED if he's fit:

- He will take the oppositions best defender in MOST cases which gives Trav and Jack more freedom.
- By taking the best defender and in MOSt contests 2 defenders, Dick and Medders will be free to run riot with either NO opponent or 5th and 6th defenders
- Can still take a contested mark and was the AFLs leading contested mark player as recently as 07
- 3 games in the VFL shows he's pretty much OVER his injury, and has lost weight to help alleviate the pressure on his feet
- Midfield gains MORe confidence with him down there knowing we will now have 3 BIG STRONG MARKING target to kick to. This will only make our midfield play better than it already is.
- He can still thump the ball at LEAST 60-65 metres.
- He can even pinch hit in the ruck depending on match ups/injuries during a game.
- He is a big, hard, strong body in the forward line, something Dawes, and even Jack to a lesser extent aren't yet, which we will need in finals
- He has finals experience, and even more so, GRAND FINAL experience.

In other words, he HAS to play if fit.

Yeah I was there today, he had a lot of the ball inside 50, and even some of his ruckwork was ok inside 50, but there were 2 contests of note where he got outmarked in a pack situation simply because the younger Frankston player jumped off the ground.

My idea is a "farewell" match next week against the Doggies, then we can all move on, including Big Ant, in a respectful manner.
