Expansion Should Victorian AFL Clubs fly north to NSW and Queensland every winter ?

Most AFL supporters in NSW and Qld could trace their footy connection back to the bigger Victorian clubs. You only have to look at attendances (albeit restricted at present) with Essendon and Carlton playing at Metricon recently. Cats and Pies always draw big crowds in Sydney and Brisbane. Weather in Victoria is less than inspiring in July. Footy is always about the competition between the clubs rather than the individual clubs themselves. Why not just bring the Victorian competition, rivalry and everything to the northern states for a few weeks every season...the true footy fans will turn up...create the atmosphere.

The traditional big 4 from Melbourne need to play in NSW & Q every year as part of the FIXture ..... & include the games transferred out of Melbourne to the NT, NQ & Tas , for exactly the same reasons you outline.

The traditional big 4 from Melbourne need to play in NSW & Q every year as part of the FIXture ..... & include the games transferred out of Melbourne to the NT, NQ & Tas , for exactly the same reasons you outline.

The agenda is for the eagles and other interstate teams to play the same ratio of interstate games as they do currently and for melbourne teams to get closer to the same ratio.

Its quite instructive the horror evinced by mcg tenant teams when any idea espousing equality is mentioned.

they always try to spin it so that the interstate teams will get an unfair leg up when all it involves is their team being drawn back to the pack.

The reason being that theres too many clubs in one city

And theres nothing being done about that.

It happens, because just like when we play Collingwood, the club buys the access for the member from the stadium. Its not part of host rights or any other vicco conspiracy

Arrangements between venues & clubs is another one of the things in the hands of the venues.

Its not a conspiracy its about hanging on to advantage of the home & away template that no longer applies, its a FIXture. The OP was clarifying the failure of some clubs to carry their share of the travel burden in NSW & Q.

“there’s too many clubs in one city” isn’t a reason for anything. It’s just a statement. If you think it causes problems then talk about them.

It causes an imbalance in travel. if victoria had 7-8 teams we could have a more equal travel schedule and victorian teams would get more games with real home ground advantage

too many teams are on a permadrip as its not sustainable to have so many teams in a medium sized city.

Minnow teams have to sell games out of victoria as they cant get the crowd numbers to be sustainable - costing interstate clubs valuable mcg experience.

and if big vic clubshave to suffer for there being too many teams invic instead of interstate sides we might get some movement on the issue.
