Last year C7 showed English county games as well as their one days series games so I'm hoping that Fox2 take them up this year.

It's along time before Australia play again so make the most of the last game on Wednesday. Bloody day-nighter which is a bit hard to watch till the end mid week.

CRICKET PALES INTO INSIGNIFICANCE WHEN THE FOOTY SEASON IS ON
FOOTY IS BY FAR THE BEST GAME IN THE WORLD AND OFFERS MORE EXCITEMENT THAN ANY CRICKET GAME CAN EVER DELIVER
WHY YOU WOULD WANT TO WATCH A TEST MATCH WHERE BY NOTHING HAPPENS FOR 80% OF THE TIME IS COMPLETELY BEYOND ME.
CRICKET WOULD BE DOOMED IF IT WASNT FOR ONE DAYERS

..which is presumably why only one country in the world watches the sport. I think you'll find plenty of space elsewhere on this site to post messages about that parochial game.

Thanks for caring anyway, Black Cat

Briedis,

I had a look through the Foxtel's sports guide and it says that they are covering England vs Sri Lanka in May/June and England vs India in July/August this year, which will be great!! :):)

I agree with you about seeing more of Sri Lanka and Pakistan... especially Sri Lanka. Lets hope we can before Sri Lanka come out here for the one-dayers this summer so we can see how they play. :)

Cheers!! :)
SeinDude

Hey thanks for that!

Only one month until more cricket is on! YAY!

Wasn't Aussie Rules invented to keep cricketers fit in the off-season?. Put like that you can really see that the game is merely an extension of cricket and a practice extension at that. Black Cat I feel you have a lot to thank Cricket for....

three cheers for Cricket, hip, hip

Bring back the times when (apart from the ashes in England in June, July every 4 years) cricket ended in March and didnt start again until November !

What an absolute stupid comment! So other countries shouldn't play cricket during the warmer Northern Hemisphere months? England should only play cricket in their Summer once every four years, when Australia tours? Forget playing the other countries?

Stop thinking like an American.

you didnt understand ! Other countries are fine to be playing in our winter months but the Australian team should be having winter off each year except for the ashes in england. it gets so boorish to see cricket game after cricket game, we need some respite ! lol

Shut up, you are just rambling on because you obviously dont like cricket! I would love if cricket was played all year round in every country, including developing nations, but basketball on the other hand is played almost everywhere due to American commercialism. (is that a word?)
Cricket in the West Indies has been so poor in recent years becasue all of their children are playing basketball! If cricket is to become the global game that it truly deserves to become, it needs to be televised, not pushed aside to promote more American sport!

"..but basketball on the other hand is played almost everywhere due to American commercialism. (is that a word?)"

Hang on, you support Man United?. Although not american, can you you tell me what having your own TV station, branding yourself such that you receive huge profits from selling football shirts in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, etc.... , is if its not "commercialism"?. You may know who Mr Taibi is, but I think you have a confused point of view.

Maybe, but would you have said the same thing if I supported a lower division team with no money, no advertising power and no sponsorships? I am referring to Basketball in the way that global saturation of the GAME is in effect, not necessarily the NBA.

1. Basketball is the 3rd most popular sport in the USA.
2. Soccer is THE largest sport in the world.
3. You can't watch NBA on any channel in the UK, ppv or otherwise (hardly media saturation).

"...but would you have said the same thing if I supported a lower division team with no money, no advertising power and no sponsorships?".

No. But you HAVE been seduced by Manchester United PLC, just like all the other "Bandwagoners"

:D

I am well aware of Manchester United's commercial side, they even have clothing/advertisig deals with the New York Yankees baseball team. I was not "seduced" by the Manchester United PLC, I have my own reasons for supporting them, not the fact that they have been a good side for the last 10 years.

"...1. Basketball is the 3rd most popular sport in the USA."

Yes it is, but it DOES have the international market, other major US sports are just as heavily advertised, but basketball has more appeal to an international audience becasue of its simplicity, Baseball is simple, but outside of the USA, is only played in Japan. American Football is played in Europe, but I think you will find those European leagues are called "NFL Europe"! those European teams are just where the BIG NFL teams send their reserves! Nope, Basketball may be the 3rd most popular sport in the USA, but it is near the top INTERNATIONALLY.

"...3. You can't watch NBA on any channel in the UK, ppv or otherwise (hardly media saturation). "

Cricket has less impact on the world because of its lack of global coverage, you cannot watch cricket in the USA at all not even on PPV, in fact some English Premier League coverage is only available on PPV. English people are not interested in Basketball, just like the Americans are not interested in Soccer.

When you drive down the street, how many portable basketball hoops do you see in driveways bearing the "Chicago Bulls" logo? I see them every day, sure now the Bulls are not doing well, now we see LA Lakers stuff everywhere, I never see any soccer equipment with Manchester United slogans emblazoned on them. Soccer is a game that is being promoted worldwide yes, but it is popular because all you need is a ball! It does not need corporate backers, people will always play soccer regardless of their social level.

Easty, you posted both comments can you explain again what your point is. These two points seem to cancel each other out.

1. Basketball is successful as its easy to play, just as Soccer is. Both Soccer and Basketball are successful as a result of their simplicity. Agreed?

2. Baseball & American football do not have mass appeal even though they are mass marketed.

3. What makes you think Cricket has a chance when it is mass marketed?

"Cricket in the West Indies has been so poor in recent years becasue all of their children are playing basketball! If cricket is to become the global game that it truly deserves to become, it needs to be televised, not pushed aside to promote more American sport!"

Am I the only one out there that's confused?

What is confusing about it? If Cricket was marketed the way Basketball is, it would be played in many more countries. Those comments DO cancel each other out, but its simplicity makes it appealing, oh god I lose. You win.
