Siddle retires from international cricket

No star, but a really whole hearted trier and you always need them. He got the most out of himself and should be very proud of his career.

Can't underestimate how important his innings at Edgbaston this year was too. We don't win that first Test without someone to support Smith from 120/8.

Congrats to Siddle on a fine international career. I know people aren't being disrespectful, but he didn't play sixty something Tests and get over 200 wickets just on heart. He was the leader of the pace attack at different times, but was more often the workhorse and just played whatever role the team needed him to play. Hopefully he can get some extra money playing the T20 circuit, as he's proven himself to adapt pretty well to the shorter format.

Siddle (and Hilfenhaus) would've gone into all-time Australian cricketing lore if we'd been able to finish the job against South Africa in 2012 (Adelaide) after Pattinson went down. That was a superhuman performance against du Plessis, who was just intent on boring the shit out of everyone. I half expected the prick to still be batting 12 months later when we got back to Adelaide.

I like guys like Siddle. He wasn't the best, and it was probably only a really limited time that he genuinely would've been in our top 3 quicks if everyone were fit - but you knew he'd bust his arse every time, and he's a guy who got every single bit out of himself.

And of course, extra love for another vegan as well.

Yes that was a huge effort, he couldn't get up for the next test sadly so the entire attack got changed out and they copped a belting over in Perth. That debut by du Plessis has claims as the greatest of all time for a batsman given what he did up against it in the first innings and then the game saver on the last day (with help from AB & Kallis).

I remember a little of Siddle early days in both the shield final and the domestic T20, was impressive but didn't expect the trigger to be pulled on his selection so soon. But showed fight over in India - might've been first or second ball he sconed Gutam Gambhir.

Great to see how much he loves the game wanting to continue with Victoria and Essex through the grind of four day cricket bringing the next generation through. I don't think anyone in the game has a bad word to say about him which speaks volumes of his character given his longevity and role as a bouncer happy aggressive bowler for much of his career.

Pretty sure it was first pill he sconed Gambhir, great start. Its a cliche but he really got the most out of himself, career went a lot longer than anyone expected too i reckon, maybe vegan is the go?

He'd be good enough at T20 now to travel the world playing that if he wanted to. Not sure what the point would be of him continuing to play Sheffield Shield.
Probably feels honour bound to fulfill his contract. He then has one year to go with his Essex contract which he is going to fulfill as well. I would say while he is still fit and enjoying playing some form of cricket he is the type of guy who wants to play for whoever he has signed up with. Some guys drop all levels of cricket while others slowly wean themselves off the game.

according to an interview, he's aiming for 700 first class wickets. He's currently on 603.

Good bowler, probably got less recognition then he would've gotten playing for other countries because of the situation.

He played in an era where we were desperate to have Cummins and Pattinson on the park which injuries prevented, the fact of the matter being he probably wouldn't have played much if those guys were fit. There was that lingering feeling that he was someone we were stuck with rather then being in the Best XI. Harsh as he gave it his all and produced some great performances.

Darren Lehmann did him a huge disservice in the 2015 Ashes though. Despite what I mentioned above he needed to play all 5 Tests in that series but Lehmann's inability to assess conditions and players on merit cost us. He went over this year but I think it was clear and is now clear to him he has probably passed the longest format by and wasn't in his peak.
