In my opinion it would be great if United folded. They've got stuff all supporters and commitee members, which is a real shame considering the amount of work blokes like Billy Lovell have put into the place. Would help city oval to no end, allowing the ground to take its rightful place as the Wimmera Football's premier oval. It has been disgraceful the last few years.
Three Wimmera League clubs out of Horsham is way too many considering the amount of district league clubs also drawing from the population.
In the future surely the VCFL will have to step in (as all clubs are too pigheaded or stubborn) and force a major shake up of the two leagues. Maybe joining them together with 2 divisions and a promotion/relegation system or some forced mergers.
Just throwing ideas out there. We need some real discussion about the state of football in the region. Horsham United isn't the only club with real problems out there, but they all seem to be too proud to take the proactive steps and talk about mergers to strengthen their clubs future or at least make sure that their club has a future.
Would love to here some opinions on this topic Scotty, Wally, Going Bush etc

To be honest PP, I don't want Diggers to merge but then again, it's something that is likely to happen.
I was discussing this at school alongside Nathan Byrne and Tanner Wills, two junior stars from United, and we tried to think of who they would merge with. Taylors Lake was mentioned and as soon as you are discussing merging with Taylors Lake, you knew things weren't right.

Is it possible for United to be part of the HDFL? Not that i wan't to play District but it is a possibility.

That idea of a Div1/Div2 league looks ok but i don't think it would work as smoothly as hoped for.

Time will tell...

Yeah Scotty maybe United /Taylors Lake merge. Would have to play in the district league, as the Lakers wouldn't have too many players able to step up to Wimmera League. Then you have the problem of current United players leaving to other clubs anyway. United have always stuggled to keep players loyal, seems to have always been lots of blokes moving back and forth from WL to DL and back. Would be good for the DL to have a Horsham based side. Horsham and the Horsham Saints (don't know alot about teams outside Horsham) have really good junior programs which they have used to build their sides over the last few years.
I don't have the answers but would love to have people throwing their ideas out their. United not the only club struggling for numbers. Be interesting to see how Dimboola shape up after the tragic lost of John Saxton. Don't think McFarlane etc will be travelling back next year.

Don't get you hopes up Burras about Adam Taylor, after talks with the club, he might just be pulling on the yellow and black for another year;)

Has he not signed with the burras already? I would think the deal was sealed if the mail times was to report it...

Keep an eye on ararat 2s next year with a host of fat cu**S injected into there side, david turbo mcarthey, richard psycoligist harricks and sneaks dental mcadie.good experience and good blokes...
Big Rich gunna have a run around with us? Should be a bit of fun-heard some rumours of another bloke in the 40+ category considering pulling the boots on to have a run around with his sons and nephews as well. See if he's still keen come round one next year.

Nhill Tigers have opened the cheque book this year with two gun signings. Ryan Hargraves 32 from the Western Bulldogs, won Port Adelaides goal kicking last year and Chris Ladhams 27 from the Adelaide Crows, also played SANFL last year. Love to know what sort of $$$$ those blokes would be on? Great for the league but.

Also heard they signed Chris's brother Andy aswell. Who spent time at North Adelaide in the SANFL. A hard midfielder/defender from what I here. Great for the Tigers. And its Daniel Hargraves not Ryan....

Played at West Adelaide... The worst team in the SANFL. Didnt have a great year Lenny... Not a massive recruit.....

injuries held him back... his year prior to last was quiet strong particularly the middle rounds. hopefully injuries wont be as big an issue with the lessened workload of WFL in comparison to SANFL. A very good recruit.

Farr, Carr and Barnett will all resign and play with the demons i think u will find it will happen over the weekend. Heard a whisper they are in talks with ex demon Brad Sholl.

Has he not signed with the burras already? I would think the deal was sealed if the mail times was to report it...

Clearances do not open until Feb next year so nothing finalised until then. Only cpmplication is if he signed a registration form and then decides to go else where, he then needs 2 clearances.

If decides to stay put, not a problem.

It’s very very difficult for a league or a governing body to ‘force’ clubs to merge or fold. Can you imagine the outcry if the VCFL told Horsham and Horsham United they had to join? The trouble in country footy at the moment can’t be remedied by the VCFL anyway. The population of the Wimmera is ageing and increasingly being centralised in Horsham. Because of the drought the local economy has been in depression for about that time. All clubs and towns (including Horsham) are losing their community capacity. You always hear people in town saying there are too many teams in Horsham but when you look at it from a distance you will see that the teams from there have certainly been the most successful. I stand to be corrected but since 1996 Horsham Saints have played in five grand finals and Horsham have won six. You could mount an argument that the Horsham clubs dominate the Wimmera League. I certainly agree that it would be beneficial to go to two divisions. The old argument against this was about grounds i.e. if a club comes up into the higher division who has poor facilities then it could compromise the major league status. Footy is in such a perilous state in the in the Wimmera Mallee that these old arguments have gone by the way side.

Many of the small towns in the Wimmera League, especially Dimboola, Minyip, Murtoa and to a lessor extent Warracknabeal were very nieve in first wanting a second side out of Horsham and then a third.

Each of these clubs had a number of Horsham residents playing for them as they could not get a game at Horsham or did not want a game. By introducing a 2nd and then 3rd team out of Horsham it only weakened these smaller towns and to a lessor degree Horsham.

It was poor administration of these clubs at the time and more so aimed at diminishing Horsham Demons than looking after their own back yard and protecting what they had at the time.

I would love to see Donald & St Arnaud come into WFL. North Central would be disbanded but this would not result in a lot of extra travelling for anyone.
