It costs approx $600 return to travel to Melbourne return from Perth. It is a four to five hour flight. Why would any travelling fan then want to add a further 2 hour car ride to commute to a povo regional town? I don't say that to be a snob either... I'm sure Geelong has it's own kind of charm... but seriously you can't compare Melbourne city and Geelong as travel destinations.

The numbers simply can't be compared.

If 44k attended a match where both teams were in the bottom four of the eight, and this year they are in the top four.... well more are going to go this year then. Anyways, I guess we need to stop crystal balling, as we will now never know.

Enjoy your first and last Geelong final.
You have just made a good reason why every Geelong home game and final should be in Geelong. I agree with you. Geelong has been shafted for years by the afl.

The majority of the ground was priced as premium ($80+ for an adult ticket) and our next match will be a cut throat home final (semi or prelim). Plenty of members chose to save their money for future finals or potential GF tickets. Can't argue with that.

Will all of Collingwood's 80k members show up on Saturday night? All of Hawthorn's 50k members on Friday?

25,000 Cat members bought tickets.
From 43,000 that is pretty damn good considering we have more members OUTSIDE Geelong than we do within.

HYPOCRISY & INTEGRITY AT IT'S FINEST BY THE AFL & ANDREW DEMETRIOU.

This statement from the AFL was made back on Wednesday July 17, 2013:

Cats will NOT host finals.

The AFL announced that Simonds Stadium won’t be a finals destination anytime soon, despite its recent capacity increase and four new light towers.

Geelong’s newly revamped stadium now holds 34,000 people which is 2,258 more than Adelaide’s AAMI Stadium, who were asked to host last year’s semi final between Fremantle and Adelaide.

However, the AFL have made it clear that finals hosted in Victoria will ONLY be played at the MCG and Etihad Stadium to allow for a maximum crowd.

AFL spokesman, Patrick Keane, told News Limited that their decision to keep Victorian finals in Melbourne is based on capacity and increasing peoples chances of a seat, even if it’s not their team.

"It's just our view on capacity that the largest possible number of people should be able to attend matches during the finals, so therefore we use the MCG and, potentially, Etihad for one final in the first two weeks," Keane explained.

"Etihad has the right to host one final across the first two weeks if there are more than two finals in Victoria scheduled for those two weeks."

I have no problem with the game being at Simmonds, what I do have a problem with is that the AFL have decided that because we don't have a big supporter base in Victoria we are the only top 4 side that has to. I don't understand how they can shaft us there , but play Sydney at etihad or the G. If we have to play there, any team that has an away game against Geelong should have to.
Only 2000 freo members bought tickets and you think you have the right to force us out of our home city into a 50000 capacity stadium?

Should still be at Etihad.

Naww diddums.
Haha. What did you think the AFL would say? Funny that some people are still naïve and gullible enough to believe anything coming out of the AFL.

Good luck with this champ - don't think objective observers agree though. Sucking up to the boss a key part of your life plan?
Not sucking up, just seems like Freo's whinging wasn't really about tickets at all.
Game sold out within hours

Scores of people missed out on tickets

It is a poor decision made by the AFL

Know anyone personally who missed out? Definitely weren't Freo fans that's for sure, they still had half their total allocation spare.
Plenty of Cats fans would have missed out. Almost all neutral fans did for sure. Sold out in one day, Poor decision by the AFL.

Oh well too bad so sad.

"People don't want to go to Geelong" quick, somebody call Ripley's

What is actually interesting is that a top 2 club with 43,000 members playing in what could be their only true home final still couldn't sell out their full allocation. Pathetic really

What was pathetic was your club's whinging, from right at the top all the way down to the supporters themselves. Culture.

Clearly he had his fingers tied behind his back.

Good point, Freo hasn't been shafted, it's Geelong that have been getting shafted all this time.
Next final you get at the G you should get Cats members to buy all the seats and then not show up.

The fact unsold tickets still remain justifies the decision even more to play the game in Geelong. :thumbsu:

Some people just enjoy trying to find things to complain about methinks (especially here on BF), and this is one of them. Honestly can't understand all the kicking and screaming over one final at Kardinia Park.

So much drama about this game lol. I think freo care more because it makes their finals campaign that much harder.. i mean they may have to play hawks/swans if they wanna go to grand final.. poor diddums

Just look at last years final, if we can get numbers in Melbourne for a 6th vs 7th final surely with this years form we could get just as many for a top 4 clash. Do you think it's ok for the AFL to give roughly 7 days notice that a final will be played at an oval that hasn't hosted a final for over 100 years? And only Freo get to play them there because they can't draw a crowd? What a joke.

Well if Geelong has to travel two hours for there own home games as he suggests then wouldn't you agree that we have been shafted?

2000 dude. It was 2000 supporters. You guys barely deserve the right to play at the local suburban oval. Also 10000 of that 44000 were mcc members and then there was all the other neutrals who went cos there were no other good games on. There are 3 other vic games this week.
