we got more out of heath black in his 4 years with us through that trade than what richmond have gotten with their 5 year offer to him.... that is most definitely a trade we won.... funnily enough richmond werent the real losers, stkilda were as they took that dud aaron fiora :D

And did I hear that Warnock is on Carlton's long term injury list? What did we get for him again, and who did we pick up with those picks? :D

Sandilands is a pretty terrible mark! For such a big bloke you would expect much more link up marking - but he doenst know how to catch the ball! And yes, 97 points is killing me

He's actually not bad at marking uncontested !! As opposed to the snake (SIMMONDS)!!
He's not great when it is contested, but he's improving. He should be though !!
I cannot say the same for Simmonds !!

I'm guessing 97 is a pretty decent score in DT?

Just shows why people who quote DT scores as proof of how well a player played deserve to be slapped across the face with a wet fish and then have it shoved up their arse. Simmonds was absolutely terrible tonight.

Sandilands is actually a very good mark. When there are no options from a kick-in we always go long to sandi, and he usually delivers. I dont think Simmonds will play the role he did 2nite everyweek, he probably got more ball because he was playing on a more mobile tall than usual, however saying this I did have him in my team last year. This year I have Hille from Ess as my back up to Cox

Sandilands is not a "very good mark". Ill say it again for such a tall man, he should dominate in marking contests. If you compare him to Simmonds over the past four years, sandilands has performed pretty terrible.

Sandi

Year - Marks - Games - Ave per game
2005 - 74 - 18 - 4.1
2006 - 96 - 21 - 4.6
2007 - 55 - 15 - 3.7
2008 - 77 - 22 - 3.5

Simmonds

Year - Marks - Games - Ave per game
2005 - 123 - 22 - 5.9
2006 - 141 - 21 - 6.7
2007 - 40 - 10 - 4.0
2008 - 138 - 22 - 6.3

By these numbers Sandi is actually declining in average marks, while Simmonds is pretty consistent (bar his knee year).

Dont get me wrong, i think Sandi is a teriffic ruckman, and will most likely get AA this year. If he improves his marking ability, he would really help freo linkup through the ground. But you cant say he is a better mark than Simmonds!? Sandi is sh*t at marking the ball. This is definiately an area he will need to improve, and i wouldnt be suprised if the freo staff over the preseason has focused on this, which should make him more of a complete player. If you kick the ball to him, you would expect him to catch the bloody thing.

Simmonds was certainly disappointing. Didnt see Sandi on the field last night for some reason, Jonas.

I couldn't believe how bad Snake was last night. I don't remember him being that crap when he was with us, is that a case of things seeming better in hindsight?

He is in the last year of his 5 year contract. You reckon he'll get another one? At the time when Richmond were going hard to out-do us, we went as high as 4 years, which he would've finished last year... would he be on our list again this year if he had stayed? Given that there's no JLo anymore, and all the retirements etc, he probably would be.

I reckon you're a bit unkind. Simmonds has been pretty important over the last few years, and as a Freo sympathiser I thought he was a pretty big loss for you at the time. It's no coincidence that our really horrible 2007 was the same year that Simmonds battled a knee injury all season and only played 10 games.

Last night almost our entire team was a disgrace. Simmonds was no better or worse than most of them. He's not getting any younger, but I'm pretty confident that he'll be a lot better than that for the rest of the season.

Completely agree

One look at the highest scoring dream teams highlights how inaccurate the whole concept is.

Don't get me wrong, I dabble in DT...But one of my biggest pet hates is DT experts who have no appreciation or understanding of the game.

Seem's to be an abundance of eagle supporters who have become DT experts and favour watching their individual players opposed to the rabble that is west toast.

How quickly has that 4 and a half years gone.

Thornton, Murphy and Browne were re-signed last year IP. If Simmonds was still here he'd probably be vice captain!!

He was a VC when he left IIRC... or maybe a deputy VC back in the days when there clubs were into one Captain, one or two VCs and one or two Deputy VCs... before the whole thing evolved into a "Leadership Group."

But yeah that was my point. He might have "lost it" a bit, but if he had stayed all those years ago (and remember he has now been at Suckmond longer than he was with us) - then he would still be on our list, undoubtedly. If those three players you named received contracts (two of them for two years.... :(), then Simmonds would have got a contract also... possibly just the one year due to his advancing years, but a contract nonetheless.

I like Richmond.

They're paying us back by starting shizen and will be something like 1-5 by round 6...leaving Wallet getting killed by a thousand cuts while we're left to get on with the job of developing the kids and moving forward. :thumbsu:

Just watch after they go to Skilled next week and get the snot kicked out of them...the knives will be running over sharpeners by half time

Eddie reckons that Sheeds will take over if they're 0-4.

yes he didnt have a good game but he did take some good marks, and dropped some sitters though. still important to our team, but we need someone to take the no.1 ruck role from him.
