Don't get me wrong, i'm loving the way the big fella is going about things this year. The improvement he's made upon last year has been astounding.

But that said, I think it's fair to say that most would have considered him merely a 'backup', with other ruckmen like Bailey, Renouf and even McEntee in the wings.

With clubs like the Tigers probably looking for a ruckman at season end - could Tails possibly find himself up to trade?

Hypothetically, if the Tigers (or another club) offered us a Top 25 pick for him, would you accept it?

hmm thats a tough one but I really think we will keep him this weekend. As you said, Hhe has improved so much since last season. I would think we wouldn't be too involved in trading this season and looking to develop our young-uns.

kidding your self if you think top 25 pick is a chance if they did offer us but i wuld take us in a flash

i agree that acquiring draft picks won't be as high priority this year as we already have an amazing group of youngsters. Would think we should be looking at finding players to fill holes in our list. ie a pacey midfielder

I hope not. The big fella is starting to show what he can do.

And whilst we can talk up bailey/renouf/mcentee, in reality they havent done anything. There hasnt been a huge amount of ruckmen who set the world on fire at an early age, it usually takes them years.

He's a keeper for mine! :)

From his performance this year, our new draftees that were aquired to fill the back up ruckmans hole will struggle to get a game. He does exactly what is asked of him, win the tap outs and if he gets the ball, handball it off straight away. Unless the Tasmanian rower starts to go backwards I'm sure we will see him in the Brown and Gold for some time

ummm havent you been following the hawks this year, we have been winning nearly every centre bounce and clearances this year mainly thanks to campbell and taylor, he has improved big time and he now can kick good and is getting better and better.... we need a full back not another ruckman............come on now think about it.....cheers

Simon Taylor will be kept. In the draft this year the Hawks will be filling holes that theyv left out with previous drafting. Previously weve drafted tall power forwards and classy ball magnet mids. All we need is another key back, and a few quick mids and a crumber. The difficult bit of drafting is done, now they just need to fill in the holes in our list. Overall i think Little, Thurgood and Osborne will be dispensed with for a Key Back, a crumber and a pacey mid. We have a very good ruck division coming up so i doubt theyll want to rid of any of them. Word is that there wont be many keys this draft, as speed will be the go, which is excellent for us. Once we have another injection of speed in the midfield, another tall option to add size in our defence, and a crumber to lock the ball in the forward line we will have completed the VAST majority of our drafting needs. Sorry i just love looking at the Hawks youngsters on the list and where they fit. Remember Muston and Ellis are still to come into the midfield permanently yet:)

no, you're being silly.
in actual fact we have 4 ruckmen on our list plus a rookie, which is almost one too few considering that some have been drafted very recently and need time to develop. if you have a look at adelaide they have had quite a few ruck injuries, but have been able to manage due to having 6 ruckmen on their list.
so to make a statement like that, is extremely short sighted. do some more thinking before you write it down.

Yea, what blase said. I'd also say that at the moment he's our No.1 ruckman, considering the clearance we get when he's on and his huge improvement around the ground. Only when Bailey, Renouf and McEntee are doing as good a job at AFL standard should it even be considered.
It's time to start stringing some WINS together as Taylor is doing each week against his opponent.

If Taills keeps up his present form and continues to take grabs around the ground, why would we get rid of him.
Competition will make the juniors work hard.

Go "my man Taylor":thumbsu:

Our ruck stocks are still quite thin. Looks good when we have both out there, one goes down and suddenly we are on thin ice.

Taylor is finally in good form, nothing to say Bailey or Renouf will certainly make it, although both look likely types.

Renouf could end up end the backline at some stage as well, good contested mark and will end up a good size so we may even elevate McEntee and blood Renouf as a backman, who knows.

But in summary, Taylor is going no where. If he keeps improving he and Campbell could become a solid combination.

Tails is very valuable to us as a backup but would have no trade currency IMO. Would be worth about as much as a half eaten pastie! No where near a top 25 pick. He is a developing big man with average skills. Great for us but no point in trading him!

What a ridiculous thread. Renouf, Bailey and McEntee have proven nothing yet, they have potential, thats it. To get rid of someone who is still young, and has proven he is good enough to make our best 22 is stupid at this stage. Sheesh.

Taylor has proven him self this season he deserves to be retained for 08 certainly. I am yet to know what Renouf and McEntee have proved. Its way to early to tell, and Taylor will be vital has Bails is getting eased back into senior football.

Agree totally, and what's to say a top 25 draft pick would necessarily get the choccies anyway? Hawthorn has invested a fair bit of time and money on this bloke and we are just starting to see the rewards. He actually looks like a footballer this year.

No disrespect to Philhawk, but do these sort of threads do us any good? We are on the way up, not wallowing winless and directionless with half the list struggling.

How things change. Not long ago alot of people were tipping him for de-listing.

He's coming on in leaps and bounds, every game he plays he looks better. One question for everyone, if we were playing Freo and we didn't have him available, just how worried would you be about Sandilands?

Well Im glad to say I was one of the rare few talking about Taylors tap skills last season!

I wouldnt be worried about Sandi IF I was confident that Campbell could play 80% of the game. At this point I dont know how will AC is to risking Campbell for a majority of the game. But If Campbell could only play 60% or so I would be worried because Sandi would give Renouff a hiding.

Absolutely NOT.We are building a new dynasty, no never. Keep the group together we will be a powerhouse again . Let the young soldiers get to know each other real well. The potential,,,, what can I say , didn't they run for each other on Saturday!
