Height: 190cm
Weight: 88kg
DOB: 17/06/88
Recruited from: Subiaco (WA)
Bio: Versatile tall who generally plays down back, in which his closing speed makes him a headache for leading forwards. Can go forward and kick goals at crucial stages. Great leap and is strong overhead.

In his own words
What type of player are you?
Hard-working, honest player who is team-oriented. I think I'm versatile and can play in many positions on the ground.

Which AFL player do you most resemble and why?
Adam Hunter. Because I normally play down back but can be used forward to kick goals at crucial times in matches.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
I am good overhead and in a one-on-one marking contest. I have good closing speed, which allows me to spoil my opponent often. I have good skills on both sides of my body.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
I can work on my fitness and my foot skills. I would also like to improve my pace over the first five to 10 metres.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
West Coast Eagles. I was born into a household of Eagles fans and my family has been members for years. I loved going to watch them play as a kid.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far and why?
Scott Watters. Coming into Colts footy, he was my coach. I was light and not very fit. He told me what I needed to work on, He is now the league coach and has really helped me develop into a league footballer. I have been able to talk to him about anything to help me become a better and more consistent footballer.

White Sings The Blues

White Sings The Blues
Simon White played 19 games in his debut season for the Lions this year and was an important part of Subiaco’s youthful side in 2009.

Simon won the Rising Star award for Subiaco this year and is thrilled at the opportunity of being part of an AFL squad.

“I’ve had a different path to a lot of the guys in the draft. I was a late developer not really growing until I was nearly 18 and I never played in any of the state teams. I've been told several times I was too small or too skinny which has been the driving force behind getting to where I am today,” he said.

Jamison Mk II?

One can only hope that White ends up half as good as Jamo.

*cue the cliche that Carlton only drafted White because Scott Watters recommended him to Wayne Hughes*

Young makes it a clean sweep
It was also a tight affair in the BIC Rising Star Award with Swan Districts defender Travis Casserly (21 votes) holding off another defender, Subiaco’s Simon White by a solitary vote.

While White was busy preparing for the Grand Final, Casserly happily received his trophy and cheque from BIC.

Players in the running for the BIC Rising Star award must be 21 years or under and have played 10 WAFL league games or less before the start of the 2009 season.

Young makes it a clean sweep

Nice effort to finish second to a player who was in the AFL system for three to four seasons.

Re: Simon White (Rookie)

Whitey is a top young man comes from a good football background, father Peter was a 200 game player captain and coach of top sunday league club Osborne Park.
Interestingly Simon was a very good midfielder as a juinior, grew 7 inches between 16 and 18 took a while to get use to his new body but has developed into a very good medium tall defender, great reader of the ball in flight, always at the fall of the footy and has maintained his midfield skills.
Very good fit for The Blues hope he gets a chance

Thanks for that megladon.

A few Carlton supporters want Cachia to receive a nominated rookie spot with Garlett, but I hope White gets it.

I think we have enough midfield types like Cachia.

I've read that all the new rookies bar Cachia look very raw at training, yet if White plays well and is promoted, Jamison, White, Thornton and Bower would strengthen our backline immeasurably. Jamison and Bower can play on the tall forwards if White, Russell and Thornton can take the likes of Didak, McKinley, Medhurst, William and Anthony.

White might release Austin and Waite forward if that happens.

Love the pick regardless.

My money is on White to be one of the nominated rookies for 2010.

Re: Simon White (Rookie)

Has been given Kouta's number. A lot to live up to there.

I don't really subscribe to living up to past players.....somebody has to get it, at some stage..and that high a number it is likely to be a rookie.....it's just a number, he has to extract the most out of Simon White, not live up to a past champion from pick 56 in a rookie draft.

Re: Simon White (Rookie)

I agree with you, but the fact remains that #43 is being trotted out for the first time since Kouta retired and fans will notice it.

Low numbers are reserved for our greatest hopes usually, so I am happy to see #43 head back into traditional rookie territory.

Still hope he does well. I can see a few of our posters using the words 'disgrace to the 43 guernsey' if he is not up to it. That wouldn't be fair on the kid.

Re: 43. Simon White (Rookie)

I was under the impression that we had already moved Garlett and Jacobs onto the main list. Is this correct?

Would that then mean that White is only competing against Cachia,
Ellard and Dare for the 2 nominated spots?? (am I correct these 4 are the most likely to be nominated)

IMO we should chose one of Ellard/Cachia and one of Dare/White as we will probably only be using them as depth players and it would be good to have a back up key back and mid.

Re: 43. Simon White (Rookie)

We moved Joseph and Jacobs onto the main list so Garlett is a rookie for another year yet, so he is almost guaranteed a Nominated position.

Re: 43. Simon White (Rookie)

then we'll have a LTI and get to promote ANOTHER... then half way through the year.. or late in the year you get to promote another (I THINK?)

Lets not wish that to happen to any of the players.

Re: 43. Simon White (Rookie)

General compare him to a Adam Hunter type, can go foward or back.

He has a strong core so he is stronger than he looks, he also has a very good leap so can play taller than his 192cm's.

He has blistering speed allowing him to close the gap quickly on leading fowards, will run of as well.

Potentially he has the tools to be a upgraded Thorton, as he is much quicker taller and stronger, just needs time to adjust to the step up in level.
I like.
