Unsolved Siriyakorn 'Bung' Siriboon

It's amazing how relatively low profile this case has been compared to other similar cases.

I don't think the family has the ability or resources to properly play the media.

getting into the media and making it a public agenda is really important (with appropriate legal advice)

An interesting case, albeit one that I can't say I've been following closely beyond the odd newspaper article.

Article from yesterday's age:

A man has told police he accidentally ran over and killed missing Boronia schoolgirl Siriyakorn Siriboon before dumping her body in a nearby reserve, according to reports.
Bung went missing in June, 2011 while walking a short distance to school.

The ABC reported that a 24-year-old man had been interviewed by police in August and claimed to have accidentally killed Bung.
Police searched parkland near Bung’s house in August and Old Joe’s Creek Reserve, a nearby creek bed, in October. No trace of her was found.
The local man was interviewed again in October and remains a person of interest, it was reported.

People buying this?

Attention seeker. Would be best result for family if it was true though...horrible what probably has happened :(

No.

Bung apparently last seen by parents @ 08:20am Thursday, a school day. (02.06.11)

The street she was last seen on is bordered by the very busy Dorset Road and the busy Albert Avenue.

At that time of day a guy claims he knocked over a school girl, dragged her into his ute and then drove off and no one saw a thing? Does not sound plausible.

That's what i thought no chance of hitting someone at school drop off time and no one sees a thing, also even hitting a 13 year old hard enough to kill them would leave some kind of evidence on the road/car

A weird development for sure and could be interpreted two ways in my opinion..

1. As summised above the guy is just an attention seeker with mental problems.

2. The police have some sort of evidence linking him to the case and he is trying to explain that link away with this scenario. The police however can't charge him with what really happened until they prove this story false, but they cant charge him with what he says he has done in this scenario until they prove it true.

It would be a less terrible end to the story than some of the alternatives but the odds of him being an attention seeker is really high.

Are panel beaters obliged to report damage consistent with hit and runs? Mind you, not sure how much a little girl would have done to the front end of a ute, may not have needed any repairs.

If he had a bull bar on the car might not of, but the cops knew roughly where she disappeared from and a hit strong enough to kill someone would surely of left blood on the road

I reckon those two scenarios would appear to be the most likely from the recent developments, although the 'arrest' part seems strange to me. If the police were confident that it was #1, I imagine they wouldn't have actually arrested the guy (presumably he would have just rocked up and told them); while if they think it's #2, it sounds like this is the second time that he has been arrested and at least the third time that he has been questioned, so I would have thought they'd have reason to charge him (even if it's for a lesser offence initially to give themselves some more time to conduct searches, forensic analysis etc.).

One positive out of all this though is I'd be leaning towards it not simply being #1. I don't think we would have been hearing about it, if it was. The police would have no reason to actively release such information and risk reprisals against a relatively harmless nutjob and even if it was leaked, I think even the most sensationalist tabloid rags would respect the fact that reporting on it could compromise the investigation.

I think the fact that the ABC is going strong with this is also a pretty reasonable sign that there's a bit to it and that the police could be on the right path to finding out what happened.

I spose the forensic testing on the car should reveal something. Should.

Somewhat inconceivable that he could dump a body at that site and nothing turned up. Then they search the site thoroughly and nothing showed up.

It seems far-fetched to me. But so did the internet. We'll see.

Damn you. Read the whole thing then the stopsylvia website after that. Love seeing such cool calm and collected dudes shred phoneys like that.

She sounds like quite the (evil and calculating) character doesn't she?

On 3AW Wednesday 5 Feb morning, Sly of the Underworld aka Age journo and co writer of the underbelly books John Silvester and son of former senior police officer Fred Silvester said the following:

Police have 2 main persons of interest.

They had tested and refuted the version of events told to them by the male who said he accidently ran over Bung and dumped her body. He, however, remains 1 of the 2 people of interest.

Of the 250 registered sex offenders they have spoken to, about 20% do not have solid alibis for the time Bung went missing.

Police believe the purp has possibly bragged online to someone that they had been involved in Bung's disappearance and it is this person (the one who was conversing with the alleged suspect) they want to temp with the $1M reward.

One of the tv channels spoke to a male resident of the street that Bung went missing and this gent believed he is the last person to see Bung before she was taken. Bold move. Not something I would be doing saying that. Would ensure the cops went through your story with a very fine tooth comb.

I wonder what %age of that 20% actually have any priors involving this sort of age range and/or violent behaviour. Tbh, checking alibis of 250 people on a register simply because they're on the register doesn't sound like smart policing, it sounds like a convenient way to log some overtime. But whatev.

Glad they do have someone they are looking at specifically, though, hopefully they can make a breakthrough there.

Is it plausible that these people work in groups, hence why it is so hard for the cops to pin anything on one particular suspect, they all play a part in the abduction?

Disgraceful.

Did you ever read John Ronson's article (it's in his most recent book) about the cruise he went on with some matriarch psychic?

It's very eye-opening.

I really think what she does goes beyond 'morally disgraceful' and into 'the state should criminalise this kind of behaviour'. To actively prey on the emotions of extremely vulnerable people who have been through hell to aggrandize yourself is far far worse than many things which are against the law.

Back in the news, with new possible sighting, placing her in the back of a white station wagon. Why has this taken 3 years for this call to come or for police to release it ??
