It’s used as an alternative to water boarding for prisoners .. no one could seriously be rewatching it

I'm sure some are, but I'm also sure there are new viewers checking it out.

I'm sure there's some crazies just backgrounding it to run up minutes

Yeah I have it on repeat on my TV right now just to prove people wrong about it.

A bit around minutes vs run time against other shows. Anyway, seems they are cherry picking a stat to try to make it seem better than it was.

i think just as much as there's - very valid - arguments around comparable metrics on a like for like basis, I don't think it's not also valid to suggest there'd be a portion of people who juggle between streaming services and smash out all new content on a platform in a particular month, then unsubscribe and do the same on the next service, as well as people who caught up with new shows over the holiday period, etc. All in all while the decision to cancel it may well be perfectly justified, I don't think it's too controversial to say the speed with which these decisions are made are often to the detriment of creators.

I think in some ways the approach to a show like Andor or (this thread)'s Skeleton Crew - i.e. Andor was confirmed as two seasons and done before it even aired, and Skeleton Crew was always intended as a limited release from the get go helps tighten the narrative focus as well as setting appropriate expectations for all involved.

Acolyte had 2.76 billion minutes watched for the year.
Squid Game 2 had 904.7 billion HOURS watched in two weeks.

On a streaming platform that no one watches it was only beaten by a show from 2023. It was an utter failure.

Your maths is terrible. It had 904 MILLION hours. 904 billion would be every person on earth watching it multiple times.

So 54.2bn minutes. Which is impressive but nothing like what you're claiming. The show is also far longer in terms of minutes (7 and a bit hours v 5.5 hours for Acolyte).

This article backs up a suggestion I made earlier, that Disney should consider licensing its original shows to other streamers to make some money back and generate interest at the same time. It points out that according to estimates, Disney's top 10 TV shows did slightly more minutes combined than Moana alone across multiple platforms (15 billion to 13 billion). Despite being one of the biggest names in entertainment, Disney is till a bit of a niche player in TV content, especially compared to Netflix.

Surely it makes business sense to shop Andor to Netflix in the months leading up to season two, then having exclusive access to season two to encourage subscribers. It would give fresh insight into whether there is demand for shows like Skeleton Crew and Acolyte as well (Suits is getting a spin-off 10 years after it ended because Netflix made the old show a ratings hit).
