I'd thought I'd ignite a bit of debate and make a list of smokeys for this years draft.

To qualify as a smokey, you can't have attended the Draft Camp, that's why De Boer is listed.

Some of the guys are VFL players, but most have been pulled from the State Screenings lists.

I really like Jack Steven- has a lot of talent- just an inbetween size at the moment. Add Robertson, Kite, Sanfillipo, Gazzo and Horne to that list but all bar Kite more chance of rookie than drafted.

Currently doing a pre season with St Kilda jumped off the plane monday and won the 6 km time trial against all 1st and 2nd year players + players coming back from injury (goddard etc)...

18 years old from Mt Gravatt, midfielder, can play on a wing or in the guts but also shown an excellent pair of hands up forward on a flank. Kicked 4 goals in the AFLQ grand final win and was IMO best on ground. Massive motor would of won the 3km at draft camp runs sub 10 min regularly. Skills are good and decision making is improving.

Cheers for that. He sounds a bit like their selection of Brad Howard last year if they pick him up.

Do you think he's a chance to get drafted, or is more likely to be a rookie candidate?

He sh!ts all over brad howard...probably rookie although Essendon are pretty keen on him as well and St Kilda kept alot of their rookies so who knows...

Good point about their rookie- list situation.

With the comparison to Howard, I just meant that St Kilda would be drafting a lower-profile pick from Queensland who is very good athletically. I'll take your word that he's a much better prospect than Howard as I've seen very little of Howard and nothing of Bail.

Jack Steven got invited to the state screening. He's from my home town and given that the last local player to play seniors in the AFL was around 1982 we all have high hopes.

His dad was a gun footballer (though in not a great league) and I am pretty sure his uncle played for North. Would not be surprised if he gets rookied by Geelong.

Steven is bottom aged and too young to get rookied I think.

Some well known surnames there - any ideas if they are related? Its no guarantee but certainly an established brother in the AFL could help their chances.

I don't believe that Casey Carr, Mitch Enright or Tom Frawley are related in any way to the famous names that share that they surname with.

Matthew Deledio, Rhyce Prismall and Matthew Westhoff are each borthers of Brett, Brent and Justin respectively.

I can't confirm these, but I believe Lewis Jetta is a distant relation to Leroy, Luke Stanton is the cousin of Nick Dal Santo and Cameron Stokes is a distant relation to Matthew Stokes.
